key selection criteria
1. It is the known fact that people plan their lifestyle in their unique way, in the taste of their
tasks and objective. During my course time as a nurse, I have been in the daily practice of
dealing with a huge variety of patients. From there, I came to know an idea about the
significance of person-centred care. During my nursing studies, I handled a patient
suffering from COPD who was very anxious about his illness and their families where
worried too. He was not willing to talk to any of the staff members as he was unable to
cope with the ill thoughts regarding his disease. While handling the patient, I came to
know that he needed appropriate person-centred care. I have learned in my theory classes
about the concept of person-centred care and how to make an approach to deal with such
anxious patients as well as their families. I first started with trying to converse with the
patients. Though he does not want to. However, I tried to make him understand that
without talking to doctors, they would not be able to treat his illness. I believe that
treating a person with respect and care enable them to feel worthy and empowered. I gave
him psychological supports and motivated him with respect, that he will be cured soon.
While taking his case, I realized that developing a psychological and esteem relationship
with the patient and their families, make a quick recovery of the patients.
2. In nursing education, the primary goal is that nurse must be organized in such a way that
they can meet a variety of patient’s care and need. During my clinical assignment, I have
been taught the importance of self-education and skill development. My transformation
from the entry-level nurse to graduate nurse make me able to move from academic
preparation to practice level environment. During clinical practice, where I encountered
different working environment which was offering to give something different from what
I learned in my academic. Many people from different grade were present with different
skills. Patients were of varying age groups with a different illness. The staffs were
indulged in giving them proper care according to their problems. This clinical experience
motivated me toward self-education. I learned from my observation that handling patients
is a primary task along with developing a skill that can help in better recovery. I learned
to work with a different grade of staffs and tried to acquire their knowledge that they
developed through experience. I interacted with them and realized that education is an
ongoing process that needs to be learned in every step. I developed a good communication
skill that helps me to deal with the patients efficiently.
3. As I stated my clinical assignment experience where I was in such a diverse environment
where many team members were working, and many of them were having different shift
timing as well as skills. My shift timing was of morning from 7 am to 5 pm. I was given
the responsibility of a wounded patient who got a head injury. Though I was not having
experience in handling a wounded person, I seek help with other nurse staff. With their
assistance, I was able to take care of that person efficiently. Thus, I can say that working
in a team-oriented manner can aid in giving knowledge and better care to patients. I also

help other staffs in handling patients with CPOD as I had experience in these terms. The
person was not able to breathe properly, and other staff members were incapable of
controlling his situation. I assisted the other nurse and gave him oxygen therapy and
check his oxygen saturation level. I provided him with a salbutamol inhaler which
controlled his deteriorating situation. Another incidence happened; the patient with head
injury needed emergency care at night. This call for immediate help. I came at night and
controlled his situation. I stayed for the whole night in consideration of the patient. I
changed his dressing, check his body functioning data and gave him medicine for
peaceful sleep. Though my shift timing was morning, for a nurse it is imperative to be
flexible. The nurse needs to be supple according to the situation. I have learned from the
theory of being flexible in duty during my studies, and its practical experience makes me
realized the importance of it. From such experience I understood the importance of
teamwork, however, it also made me realized the significance of being flexible.
4. In reference to my experience, I have mentioned that I have worked on a diverse
environment that included people of different gender, race, age, religion, origin and
physical characteristic. While handing patients with various illness and giving patient care
to them, need for a better understanding of their culture, religious views and environment.
I realized the importance that calls for a positive approach towards change and diversity
of the situation. As I mentioned a case where I was handling a wounded patient, he was
from a different cultural background and origin. To give him quality care and make him
comfortable, it was essential for me to understand his environment. Communication with
him helps me to know about his culture. This made the patient believe that care given to
him is appropriate, though this is something related to the psychology of the patients. I
handled another person who was of a different culture and having a language barrier. I
gave him proper care by listening to his views through understanding his gestures and
communicated with him with respect. I came to know that he was suffering from a gastric
ulcer. I performed an ultrasound and prepared a proper diet plan that did not include any
spicy foods. From all such experience and theory, I have learned that Nurses showing
positive approach toward the change and diversity tends to administer better care to the
patients.
In reference to my application and key selection criteria, I'm highly committed to
performing the role of a registered nurse. Where I am extremely motivated in completing
the 12-month EGP program, I will be able to give my best and overcome all the obstacle
of education, professional and clinical terms.
