Introduction
Nurses play versatile roles in their profession, during an emergency role of the nurses become
more reliable towards their healthcare services and facilities. This report discusses the role a
registered nurse is required to play during mass causality incident with other team members
in a medical team (AbuAlRub, 2004). Incident of shooting in a school resulted injury to many
children and teachers. Some children were seriously injured and many were disturbed due the
incident in deep, here nurses are responsible to cure the injured children and teachers, and
remove their mental stress and threat from the incident.
Cooperation with Team members
Disaster is a cataclysmic instance that results to enormous loss and destruction. Incident of
the damage can be natural or man-made, here the incident of the shooting in the school was
man-made and that created loss to some lives and injured the children, hence emergency
medical team with the help of registered nurses needs to perform treatment and cure activities
(Kim & Ogcheol, 2020).
Three important members in the medical team for helping the registered nurses are
Medical Superintendent
Chairman or medical superintendent officer leads the team with effective strategy during an
emergency, team handling the critical or emergency issues require effective motivation to
handle their stress and netter support from the top management is very helpful to reduce the
stress and operate the functions very well.

Chief Nursing Officer
Chief nursing officer is an experienced registered nurse training to handle the critical or
accidental emergencies with effective decision-making and leadership techniques. Registered
nurses can take effective experienced guidelines and leadership to cure the patients and
develop living status of the people. Experienced nurses are able to deal the nurses team with
effective strategies to manage the critical issues with the health care and tragedy affect the
mental level of the nurse hence chief nurses officer are very helpful to train the registered and
assistant nurses during emergencies (Start, Culley, & Tavakoli, 2018).
Transport and security officers
Transporting officers and security officers play important role by helping the nurses to
transfer the injured patients from incident to a safe place or hospital. Transferring is very
important for the patient to get effective treatment; hence, registered nurses made effective
collaboration with these securities officer to perform emergency transfer of the patients.
Ethical dilemmas during emergency
During an accident at mass level, nurses face frustration and emotional challenges to handle
the nursing and patient health care series and in the incident given in the case scenario,
shooting incident in the school affected the nurses in deep because injured children were of
small age hence it was very challenging to cure them with the care and affection. Nurses in
the ethical manner need to order sound judgements and effective decision with quick
applicability suitable for the health and development of the patients (Ashton, 2016).

This report discuss the role of a registered nurse during the Mass Causality Incident, and their
performance with effective cooperation with other team members like Medical
