The nursing practice standards are developed and established by the American
Nurses’ Association (ANA) and they offer the crucial guidelines for improving the
presentation of nurtures and also establish a standard for providing care and assistance to the
patients. There are 7 types of standards that is developed for the registered nurse so that they
can enhance their practice of care. Therefore, this nursing standards are established that aim
to maintain and direct clinically safe and competent nursing practice with high excellence of
care and assistance from the nurses and promote the enhanced clinical practice. This study
will focus on explaining the registered nurse standard 2: Engages in therapeutic and
professional relationships (Kornhaber et al. 2016).
The registered nurse standard 2 describes that the therapeutic relationship is an
essential aspect in nursing profession where the nurses build a strong therapeutic affiliation
with the patient and understand the situation and concern of the patient carefully. After
analysing the circumstances of the patient the nurses exercise and employ their skill,
humanity, empathy and awareness (Arnold and Boggs 2019). The registered nurse (RN)
practice is completely based on their engagement towards the effective professional and
therapeutic relationship, which comprise of shared generosity in terms of respect and mutual
trust that is crucial for developing and building a professional relationship. In order to
effectively improve and obtain the standard 2: Engages in therapeutic and professional
relationships, the registered nurse must abide to certain guidelines and activities, which are
sated as follows (Nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au, 2019):
2.1 The registered nurse should establish, endure and accomplish therapeutic association that
will distinguish the limitations among individual and proficient relationship.
2.2 They should communicate efficiently with admiration, dignity, right, philosophy, values
and principles.

2.3 They should identify that each person are specialists within their natural life and
understanding
2.4 They must provide care and direct the people to incomes that will support in optimising
the health linked decisions
2.5 They will be the supporters of additional people by preserving the person’s independence
and authorized capability
2.6 They must practice designation, administration, management, discussion and approvals in
specialized associations to achieve enhanced health-related consequences
2.7 They actively nurtures a viewpoint of comfort and information that encompasses of
appealing with diverse healthcare authorities and professional, in order to upsurge alertness
and use that contribution in expansion of person-focused precaution
2.8 They must contribute and direct the collaborative technique of preparation, and
2.9 They must report notifiable performance of health authorities, healthcare workforces and
other related staff associates in the healthcare situation.
Therefore, it is evident that constructing a beneficial and professional association with
the patient is essential for improving the excellence of attention and protection. This standard
involve the satisfaction of the patient bearing in mind the patient’s emotive, spiritual and
bodily aspect of care (Carter and Van 2019). The registered nurse are will try to build a
friendly bond with the patient that will help them to understand the patient’s point of view
and their concern that will further allow them to build a professional relationship with the
patient and deliver high excellence of attention and care with the desired outcome.
