being provided to the patients. Thus, they are the credible and accountable means of
establishing responsible nursing care by the registered nurses (Edmonds, et al., 2016).
Professional standards are defined as the skills and the competencies with certain level of
care in each stage of the nursing interventions and processes that are carried out health care
center. They help in achieving the required level responsibilities and care which must be
maintained in the nursing practice. The main purpose of these standards is to direct and
preserve safety and skillful practice in nursing. The learnings and the familiarity must be
applied appropriately by remaining within the set guidelines. These standards are vital as they
help in promoting the clinical practices. They provide the guidance to use the tools skillfully.
They provide evaluation of the proficiency and safety in the clinical practices. It also helps in
regulating the law's full work habits and outlines the basic responsibilities and requirements
that should be matched while working. It also helps patients and clients to compare and
evaluate the nursing staff’s responsibilities and screening their work and to report if they do
not abide by regulations and guidelines (American Nurse Association, 2010). Further, it also
assists the teams and the management in developing the safe staffing practices. The tasks that
are carried out must be licensed and if unlicensed then, it must be taken into account. It
creates policies to ensure the proper documentation of the work, and the use of social media,
which is quite prevalent in this generation. Violation of any kind of professional standards or
exposition of any confidential medical matter without permission from authority can result in
loss of license from the nursing practice. Professional standards help in creating a guarantee
and accountability of the decision taken in respect to clinical methods. It helps in maintaining
the competency through the career and creates a sense of responsibility and carefulness a
month for the nursing staff. It is patient-centered and wholly revolves around their needs,
requirements and their condition. No carelessness and responsible workmanship should be
performed. Any violation in any kind of practice will lead to termination of license and
practice (Charlotte, 2014).
The registered nurses have a vital role in treating the patients skillfully and responsibly. They
are the that help in guiding and looking after the patient both pre and post treatment and

surgery. They are the only staff that devotes their work-life to the patients. Hence, it is their
sole responsibility to look after them by sticking to the norms and the practices that have been
set by the government and the health association (Nursesbooks.org, 2010).
These guidelines and standards reflect the ideal working style and practices. It also involves
the knowledge of different laws that can be charged on to the person who does not abide by
the guideline and try to use the shortcut means of achieving the targets at the workplace.
Nursing is a very complex and demanding work practice. It demands a person’s patience,
responsible behaviors and behavioral characterizes. It is in favor of the public health and
services. It includes full spectrum practices and setting in the nursing-related working zone
(Australia, 2016).
Health care is a vast, diverse and interconnected industry. Changing public demands and
public expectations creates lots of pressure and stress for the employees, staff and the doctors
to meet the demands. In such a scenario, the use of shortcuts and inappropriate or illegal
medical and clinical practice is common. Every hospital or health care center whether private
or government, the basic guideline is to be maintained. Regular screening an audit take place
to monitor the working habits of the nurses. Hence to prevent miss-happening and to ensure
the safety of the patients and the reputation of the hospitals and the health care organizations,
