CE 2.2 Project Background
CE 2.2.1 Characteristics of the project
The concrete slabs can be referred to as the structural elements of modern buildings.
These are horizontal slabs of steel reinforced concrete, usually between 100 mm to 500 mm
thickness. These slabs are majorly utilized for the core purpose of constructing floors and
ceilings and the thin slabs are utilized for exterior paving. The thin slabs ranging from 51 mm to
150 mm are known as mud slabs and the major slabs and crawl spaces are utilized. The beam
and block are also being used in the residential and industrial applications. The previously
stressed beams as well as hollow blocks are hence propped until being set, generally after 21
days. During this project, I had designed specific reinforced concrete slabs by pre-casting and
installing the hollow core slab on site with the help of a crane. I majorly considered the concrete
slabs for high rise buildings so that security is highly maintained without much complexity. I
casted in situ slabs with reinforced steel and shutters. Hence, in the project, I had successfully

proposed a proper design for the reinforced concrete slab after considering each and every
technical specification.
CE 2.2.2 Objectives developed for the project
I have maintained a distinctive sequential manner in my project of reinforced concrete
slabs and have followed all types of standards and specifications. I specified the readily available
standardized form sizes and then strived for the simple formworks. Hence, for the purpose of
completing this project eventually and then simulate and evaluate the respective performances of
this reinforced concrete slab and then making it extremely effective and efficient, I have
eventually developed these objectives given below:
To propose an effective design for the reinforced concrete slab before analysis of the
floor systems.
To make that particular reinforced concrete slab extremely efficient and resistant from
rain and fire.
To properly determine designing force for the concrete beams and even one way slabs.
To complete soil analysis with sieve test analysis.
To use certain software to check the overall efficiency as well as results of these concrete
slabs.
To follow a sequential manner in the project so that execution is much easier in
comparison to the others.
To contrast and analyze my experimental results with my evaluated theoretical outcomes
of the project.

CE 2.2.3 My area of work
Since I had experience in core civil and structural engineering projects, I was being
recruited as the chief project developer and a responsible team member in this specific project. It
was majorly for the cause that I had completed various similar types of projects beforehand and
thus I will not confront any type of complexity during executing the complete project entirely by
myself or with my team. Moreover, with the ease of using my intellect and civil engineering
skills, I was able to solve every technical difficulty faced here. As, I comprised of skills like
logical reasoning, the project supervisor kept confidence upon me to complete the works of
project.

CE 2.2.5 My responsibilities throughout the project
In this particular project of reinforced concrete slabs, I was subsequently assigned to
properly propose a compact as well as accurate design to the reinforced concrete slabs. I had

properly studied and then understood the proper scope of project work from the structural and
architectural drawings provided. I also had to analyze the respective BOQ or bill of quantities
and then check the specifications to subsequent preparation of the specific work or schedule
program. The progress of the project was also kept and issues were identified successfully while
the process of deployment. Moreover, since I had previously used sieve test analysis, I executed
the test to check or analyze the soil and then prepared single span slab drawings. I checked that
the preliminary thickness of the solid one way slab with usual weight concrete and Grade 60
reinforcement was l/24, in which l was the span length in inches.
CE 2.3 Distinctive Activity
CE 2.3.1 Comprehending the Theory of the Project
The major theories of civil engineering, which I had considered within the project were
the basic working principle of concrete slabs and how to make them much effective and resistant
to fire and water. I undertook the slab as the ground bearing suspension. Regarding the double
storied and multi storied buildings, a perfect use of few types of concrete suspended slabs were
being used. After preparing the one span as well as continuous span was prepared, I got the
following results in both directions.

Figure 2: One Span and Continuous with Both Directions
I considered the reinforced concrete slab as the flange of T and L beams for the
respective monolithic construction. I even took the cases of horizontal and inclined bridge to
carry out heavy concentrated loads and flat slabs with no beams and then supported by only
columns. To complete the design of the shear strength of the reinforced concrete slab, I
completed an experiment and hence came up with test results for confirming the subsequent
shear strength of the solid slabs until the depth of about 300 mm. Various values of total depth of
slab or k was properly multiplied to find out different types of total slab depths.

CE 2.3.2 Engineering knowledge and skills applied in the project
The major engineering knowledge and skill that I have applied in this particular project
was the proper understanding of structural designing and analysis. As my major responsibility
was to propose a subsequent design for the reinforced concrete slabs, I properly analyzed the slab
to find out the bending moment regarding positive and negative based on supports. To check and
then compute the shear force, I had to utilize my core knowledge of elastic methodologies of
analyses. Sieve testing as well as cube testing skills and knowledge were also utilized here for
the soil analysis and proper designing.
CE 2.3.3 Accomplishment and Task Performed
I undertook the core responsibility of selecting a proper reinforcement of the one-way
concrete slab. The load over the designed concrete slab eventually consists of the dead load, live
load and floor finish. I calculated these loads as per unit area or load/m2.
I checked that the one way continuous slab has showed various reinforcing bars in the
discontinuous and continuous ends known as DEP and CEP of the end panels or the continuous
end of adjacent panel of CAP. Three specific bottom bars of the B1, B2 and B3 as well as four
top bars of T1, T2, T3 and T4 were checked correctly in this case. Other three bars of B4, B5 and
B6 are provided below:

CE 2.3.4 Identified issues and their solutions
2.3.4.1 Issues
The most important technical difficulty that I have confronted in this work occurred
while checking the tenacity and tenure of my designed slabs. However, I checked that the tenure
of these slabs were reduced to a major level and thus there was a major risk for the users. Loose
railings were the next subsequent issue faced in this specific project. When concrete cracks are
being formed, adjacent railings with perimeters became extremely loose.
2.3.4.2 Solutions
Regarding the first issue, I have the solution that cracks in the slabs should be removed
immediately and these could be fixed with specified polymer linked repair material. My team
members brought the repair materials and hence I was able to remove the cracks effectively. For
the second technical difficulty, I used grouting materials to re-anchor the bolts and railings in the
concrete slabs to maintain the most secured as well as everlasting placements.

CE 2.3.5 Plan to produce creative and innovative work
I had made the significant strategy for producing an ingenious work after application of
structural analysis knowledge as well as skills. I even held group meetings for helping out my
fellow team members. This was also quite effective for identifying each and every fault or flaw
within the project of reinforced concrete slab and hence to make our work effective and efficient
enough.
CE 2.4 Project Review
CE 2.4.1 Project Overview
The reinforced concrete slab project was being utilized based on the results that were
obtained during project integration. I even had to use my proper knowledge regarding structural
designing or concrete slabs for successfully designing them. I even utilized elastic methodologies
and sieve test analysis to complete soil survey. Finally, the entire operation was being completed
with ease and extreme accuracy and efficiency.
CE 2.4.2 My contribution to work
I had to properly design the performances of reinforced concrete slab for this project. I
had also collected with the entire group of project administration for clearing up of doubts in
respect to project works. Finally, with the definite end goal and setting up of previous project
reports, I organized project meetings and provided introductions on project to my project
supervisor.
