INTRODUCTION
In every business organization, irrespective of the size, there is a requirement for
carrying out the different functions. No business can solely survive by performing just one
business function. In this report, Sainsbury is taken as an organization which is into retails.
This report provides an insight into roles of different business functions and their
interrelationship with each other.
Role of different business functions
Marketing: The main role of marketing division is to conduct the market research
which helps in gaining insight into the market position based upon which various marketing
strategies are being formulated (Macchi, Savino and Roda, 2020). It also involves
advertising, branding, promotion and so forth. This business function helps Sainsbury in
promoting its products and services along with enhancing its brand image.
Finance: This business function helps in carrying out the cost analysis and
preparing budget for the company. This division provides information on the profitability of
the products and services. This department in Sainsbury works on conducting cost analysis
and based upon which financial resources is allocated to the other departments.
Operations: The operation division helps in making sure that the production process
has been completed from the start to end (Heikkilä, Kaipia and Ojala, 2018). In addition to
this, managers who are assigned to the operations department has resulted into providing
constant oversight on the entire operation process. In Sainsbury as well, different operation
managers are hired who takes care of the various operational activities and helps in making
sure everything goes as per the plan.
Human Resource: The HR business function making focuses on managing the
workforce of the organization. It involves recruitment, selection, training and development of
the employees. In addition, having a healthy working environment. The same role is being
followed in Sainsbury company; the HR maintain the required workforce and meeting with
employee’s grievances.
Importance of business functions working together
It is important that all business functions work together. All these functions are
interrelated like the HR must ensure that marketing employees are provided with relevant
training, operation department ensure that the business is meeting the demand created by the
marketing department along with that ensuring supply chain is running smoothly (The
interdependent nature of business. 2020). All the other functions are relied on finance

pertaining to making sure each have received sufficient amount of funds which will help in
purchasing the supplies, storing goods. It provides budget to marketing demand so that it can
create demand for the business products and services. Marketing department provides
research information to operation department which based upon this, develops the products.
Thus, in this way, all the business functions are linked and interconnected with each other.
CONCLUSION
Thus, it can be stated from the above that, each and every business function plays an
important role in the growth and development of the organization or firm. One function
cannot substitute for another function and thus, the relevance of each and every function
remains intact. Along with this, every function is interlinked the other functions which results
into effectively carrying out the business activities.
