Introduction
Professional growth in an individual is identified as about gaining up of new skills or
experience during the course of its life cycle. Many individual misunderstand professional
development as earning more money or a greasy pole, however its scope is much more wider
which includes avoiding stagnation in once career. The presented report will highlight use of
models of reflection with several theories. Moreover, this report is an inclusion of theories
relating to PPD as well as application of respective problem-solving and decision-making
techniques for personal or professional academic development. In addition to this, it presents
several challenges and suitable models to overcome those challenges faced during preparation of
personal and professional plan. Lastly, reflection on development of academic skills throughout
the programme and relevant solutions are also being given in this report document (Dawson,
2017).
Main Body
Model of reflection
David Kolb's Theory of Experiment is an inclusion of constructive and humanistic
approaches to education. As per the model understandings Kolb explained an individual gather
knowledge and skills through active participation in professional opportunities and experience.
The respective model of reflection has two branches, out of which first phase of the model
includes four-stage cycle and another element is an inclusion of relevant learning style which an
individual adopts for acquiring knowledge (Dyrbye and et. al., 2020).

Concrete Experience: With a believe that key to learning is experience, therefore the
learning stage under the model begins with a concrete experience. In the respective stage learner
engages in performing an activity or any given task. In context with personal and professional

Reflective Observation: This stage is carried along with first stage in which an individual

Brook-field model: This is another reflective tool or model which is helpful for
generating core inner values of an individual. The respective model was given by Stephen
Brookfield in 1995. Stephen being a teacher presented this model which analysis the core aspects
of teaching and developing with better values with investment of optimal human effort

problem is being defined. This including findings ways for effective decision-making process
which enables an individual to attain desired goals and objectives in given timeline.
Examination of alternatives: In this stage several alternatives for the given problem are
being examined for finding the best possible solutions to the given problem or challenges
experienced by an individual in terms of its personal and professional life-cycle.
Action plan: This is a set of plan which consists of list of activity which is to be

development of an individual adopting a suitable action plan contributes towards achievement of

inclusion of handling fluctuations in once working environment. Such challenges cause great

Engaging: Another challenge encountered during performing activities of professional

For overcoming such challenges an individual need to work effectively on use of specific
models and theories. These theories as well as models would prove to be of great help to an
individual for overcoming such challenges and enhancing better growth opportunities in once
career. In the given context Kolb's Theory of Experiment will provide good boost to an
individual's career through enhancing once communicative skills and developing better
personality of an individual for providing good career path life goals (Shmeleva and et. al.,
2017).
The learnings of respective model can be applied for overcoming several challenges
faced by an individual through its respective personal and professional development plan. The
areas in which chosen model would prove to be helpful in tackling such challenges are as
follows;
Improved communication skills: By application of Kolb's model of reflection, an
individual can polish their communicational skills. As an inclusion to the model
respective individual in engaged in communicative activities which enhances their
abilities for being more productive in once areas of development.
Improved problem-solving and decision-making skills: Thorough use of this model an
individual's problem-solving and decision-making skills are being updated. As in the

Working out of comfort zones: Working out of comfort zone will provide an individual
to update their skill sets. This would prove to be great opportunity to an individual, as working
out of their respective expertise will explore them to other fields in which they can develop better
personal and professional development skills.
Asking for feedbacks: As per this element, an individual who ask for a feedback is
always intended to perform as per current marketing trends. Through this technique an individual
can work effectively which also enables them to avoid wastages of time as a resource during the
task performance stage.
Get a mentor: Having a good mentor who guides individual's working towards correct
direction of working is not more like a blessing. This will enable effective work being produced
out of individual's efforts and resources. In addition to this, an individual working under a
experienced mentor will explore them to new skills and techniques of performing a specified task
(Stanley, 2018).

From the analysis of above report it can be concluded that, having a better personal and
professional skills in an individual helps in framing better career opportunities to an individual.
