The assignment brings about the discussion on the concept of Mintzberg’s framework
stating that an organisation can be differentiated based on three aspects. These three aspects
or base includes an essential part of the organisation. The prime coordinating mechanism, and
third is the decentralisation, applied within organisation.
Mintzberg proposed the method or strategy that is utilised by an organisation, and the
manner to which it practices, as the strategy results into five varied structural configurations.
These are simple machine structure, professional bureaucracy, divisionalized structure, and
adhocracy. In this discussion, Samsung has been the organisation, which needs to be analysed
based on these five organisational configurations (Albers, Wohlgezogen & Zajac, 2016).
Divisional (diversified) form is the structure or organisational configuration
applicable to the organisation, Samsung. This is applicable because of the reason that the firm
is involved into diversified operations, and each separate division focuses on their own
activities, and functions. The structure of adhocracy is observed in today’s business
environment, as organisations are now focused towards working in a formal or systematic
manner. In general, sense, any firm, or organisation has parts such as personnel, sales, and
production with respect to their divisions (Bennis, 2017).
Divisional in relation to organisational structure, as the company has been categorised
into five sections, digital media, semiconductors, telecommunications, and digital appliances
and LCDs. therefore, Samsung has these divisions, which perform on their own and in
different manner.
Samsung is an innovative company, and it has found that it is leading company in
terms of the technology, and continuing to grow amongst their rivals in this industry. The
capability of innovation linked to form of machine bureaucracy and divisional structure as
machine bureaucracy, which indicates high degree of formalization and specialization,
carried at different levels (Bennis, 2017).
