Requiem in D Minor, K. 626: No 2, Sequence - Dies Irae
The length of the musical piece ‘Requiem in D Minor’ is nearly 1 hour. From the
understanding and listening of the melodies, it can be discussed that the melody was highly
familiar to the type of melodies that I hear. The Mozart’s Requiem is considered as a choral
masterpiece and its genesis is considered to be set in a mystical tone. The melody of the song is
considered as emotionally stirring and fascinating in its nature.
The song was primarily composed for the purpose of orchestra. It comprises of eight
sections and other fourteen movements. The movements of the musical piece have been set in
such a melancholy manner that it would be bring tears in the eyes of the listener. The
magnificent piece can be considered as a sublime melody comprised of strings and chorus.
The moods of the musical piece have been expressed with the help of orchestrating them
with a mix of strings, chorus and soloists. The orchestra of the musical piece primarily focused
on strings supported with woodwinds. It was featured with greater form of poignancy. Timpani
and brass were also relied upon based on forceful moments of these instruments. From the
understanding of the music, it can be determined that the texture of the song was thick in nature
and the person playing the song had played it with extreme emotion, which was the core essence
of the entire musical piece.

Instrumentation used for the song was comprising of basset horns, trumpets, trombones,
bassoons, viola, timpani, double bass, organ, cello, violins and clarinets. During the concert, I
was noticing each of the musicians carefully and trying to figure out any particular details that
could be gathered by understanding from the musical piece. The different sections of the piece
was being performed accordingly with the different musicians playing the various instruments.
Some minor changes could be noticed since the instruments, which are being used at the present
times have a different sound texture than the ones, which had been used during the original
recording of the song. The pace of the song was medium and every single instrument that was
being played could be identified clearly. Moreover the vocal artists had performed a great act
with their highly qualified voices.
From the analysis of the concert, I would be able to justify that I had liked the concert
very much. Each and every musician and vocal artists were extremely skilled and had brought
down the entire composition as sweet as the original recording. I was too engrossed during the
entire musical piece and the song was being played so emotionally that I had tears in my eyes
amidst the concert. The second half of the piece was mainly filled with best form of chorus
moments. This piece was a great composition of chorus and orchestra and each one of the
performers were extremely skilled in playing each of the instruments to bring out the emotions. I
could also relate the musical compositions to the different elements of music as taught during the
music class. I would definitely visit similar concerts and would also recommend others to visit
similar concerts.
