1. Introduction
This report is based on the describing about the importance of information systems that
would be used within a movie rental chain for supporting their present business operations. With
the rise of the high competition in the growing market, it has been seen that the business is facing
some problems based on operating their business functions (Yeap, Ignatius and Ramayah 2014).
In the recent times, it has been seen that the existing and emerging strategies in the competitive
market have created a requirement for the company to make use of the new kind of information
systems.
The use of system analysis and design within the business is to decide on the primary
purpose of work that would be performed within the implementation of the new system. The
report would perform an analysis over the current business functionalities at Indyflix Movies,
understand the business context, analyze over the problems and suggest possible solutions
towards the business (Oh et al. 2017). During the collection of data for proposing solutions
towards the business, the data would be collected from the case study that focuses over the
present business functions. This would help in gaining an idea about the certain areas, which
needs improvement and thus propose a certain business solution.
2. Organization Background
2.1 Discussion over the Business and services provided
This report discusses about the business offerings of Indyflix Movies, which is a growing
movie sales and retail chain sector. The retail chain business provides various kind of extra
services to their customers that includes pickup and delivery, providing assistance to customers

about their about their desired selections (Wei et al. 2016). They also provide an exclusive
selection of their independent movies, which they hire from various local sources and around the
world. In the recent times, the business has five stores, which are located in Melbourne.
The business follows a certain defunct mode model for the purpose of media transaction.
With the expansion of the business in Melbourne, they have also decided to expand their reach in
various cities and states. Hence, the business owners are also responsible for choosing the
locations carefully and thus hire dedicated managers who would be running the stores (Aguiar,
Claussen and Peukert 2015). In the current systems, it has been seen that the owners are mostly
been able to support and manage the store managers by maintaining a personal contact with them
over telephone on a regular basis. With the expansion in the business of the stores, the owners
have seen that there would be a certain difficulty in managing the entire operations of the
business sector.
The services provided by the business of Indyflix Movies includes the management of
hiring and sale of movies. However, there is no proper linkage between the business operations
of hiring and sale (Fruth and Neacsu 2014). The reports that are made for the purpose of
management of services are directly been sent to the Head Office where the owner of the store
would be responsible for consolidate them for the purpose of the company.
2.2 Present Business Problem and Possible Solutions
The current problems that are faced within the business of Indyflix Movies are:
1. Maintenance of the records of the customers
2. Processing a loan for grant to movie access
3. Overdue of loans taken for access to movie

Among the different problems that are faced by Indyflix Movies, the most notifiable
problem that would needed to be solved is the aspect of storage of movies within the store. The
physical stores that are located at different positions of Melbourne. There is a limited space
within each store, which is managed by a store manager (Zhou et al. 2018). The selection of
movies that would be kept within a particular store is based on the popularity of the certain
category of movie within the area. There should be a facilitation for the movement of movies
from one store to the other.
In order to help the business of Indyflix Movies in facilitating with the storing of a huge
database of movies, it could be discussed that the business should make use of an Information
System that would also provide an access to cloud services. The movies should be selected from
gathering the choices and preferences of people in several regions. In the current system, certain
movies are shifted from one store to another in case of any situation of demand of another store
(Wu, Vassileva and Zhao 2017). However, with the inclusion of a cloud based service, the
movies could be viewed on an online platform. This would reduce the need for one store to ask

some other store about the availability of a particular movie. This would also include the
possibility of gaining access to a large database of movies in an easy manner.
2.3 Key Functional and Non-functional Requirements for the Current System
Indyflix Movies are planning to implement an Information System that would be able to
solve the current business problems.
The functional requirements of the new Information System that would be implemented
within the organisation are:
1. Interface Requirements – The interface of the new designed interface system should
contain different segments based on certain categories determined by the certain problems
detected within the current business processes (Garaga 2015). The customers should be able to
view each of the movie categories that would help them in selecting movies from a diverse
database.
2. Business Requirements – Indyflix Movies should ensure that each of the discussed
problems within the current system such as maintenance of customer records, process of loan
approval for movies, maintaining stock of movies and sales of movies should be need to be
resolved (He et al. 2015). The resolving of such kind of issues would be helpful for helping the
customers to gain access to different movies without the need for going to a physical store to
collect their preferred choice of movies.
3. Security Requirements – The security of customers is a major concern within the
website. During registering within the website of Indyflix Movies, the customer would need to
provide their details (Bansal 2014). There is a high need for the website to implement the best of

encryption techniques in order to protect the security and confidentiality of the users, secure
access to movies and also ensure the security during making of monetary transactions.
The non-functional requirements within the system include:
1. Reliability – The website should offer a reliable platform that would be able to ensure
that customers would be relying on the website to gain access to the movie of their choice
(Hardoon and Shmueli 2015). Thus the business should provide a diverse range of movies, which
could suit the purposes of the users.
2. Performance Requirements – The website should be highly functional and should be
designed in such a way that it would not lag whenever a lot of users would be accessing it
(Lavarone et al. 2015). Each of the options provided within the website should be interactive and
provide support to the business.
3. Usability – The website should be designed in such a way that it would be easy to
operate by the users. The website should not contain any critical aspects that would not be
understood by the users.
3. Conclusion
Based on the discussions supported in the report, it could be concluded that the business
of Indyflix Movies should make use of Information Systems in order to improve the current
business processes. The current business processes at the company faces some serious kind of
problems based on the different functionalities. However, they also lack in certain aspects, which
in turn harms the overall business structure. There has been an increase in the number of
competitors in the market, which has also increased the need of improving the business
processes. In order to deal with the business approaches, Indyflix Movies should implement a

new kind of information system that would implement certain functionalities. These would be
helpful for improving the business scenario by mitigating the current problems that are affecting
