Crime and Its impact on the local society
Crime is defined as the one of the major issues which can occur in a society and is
considered as the constant threat for the people who are living in the region. There are various
negative impacts of crime on the society in regards to social injustice and many other crimes
repeated several times in the society (Devine, 2018). There is also various unwanted social
violence which creates hurdles in the way of social development in the society. There are an
increasing number of crimes which has resulted in fear among the population. These are the
crimes which are intended to harm the social peace of the country which are not beneficial for
the nation. This also leads to the in human death which causes the permanent and a major loss to
the family of the victim (Buil-Gil and et.al., 2021).

Crime and Its impact on the local society
Crime has a feature which is intended to create a direct relation with human society on an
international basis. There are several laws which are implemented by the government along with
the rules and regulations which need to be followed up by the citizens of the nation. There are
residents and citizens who are provided certain rights against crime and protection. Therefore
crime is basically the act of aggression which is also associated with the violence acted by the
person or a group of people. Crimes are prohibited everywhere in which the guilty have to face
punishment because of the crime. Criminal activities are prohibited worldwide. Cyber crimes are
increasing day by day in order to steal money e or for personal revenge as well (Elliott And
et.al., 2019).
Cyber crimes are of different types such as cryptojacking and internet provided along
with the theft of payment and many more. It is important to overcome such crimes so that the
individuals can live free in society. There are many people who are working on such crimes and
gaining computing expertise so that the people can be protected and safeguard against such
cybercrime and giving security for the same (Harkness and White, 2021). People can get
protection when they follow up some of the steps to get security from data breaches and big data
losses. For example the strong password management and access control along with the

integration and authorisation are the ways to protect the computers from cyber crime. Installing
antivirus software and updating the systems on a frequent basis are also the important activities
which are essential for the people to avoid Cyber crimes and be the victim of it (Gill and Walker,
2020).

and Alternative Information Sources
As per the views of the journal, crime is considered as the hot topic for the news media
always since decades. In the context of the United Kingdom, there is a high crime rate reported.
This is a trend which has been reported from the end of World War 2 and its news specifically
contains the violent crime which is a key component of selling items and other social media
outlets. This is because of the competition in regards with the weavers and readers. Therefore it
is not shocking that the news has the ability to figure out the perception of the general people.
Hence the media plays a significant role in figuring out the image and shaping the perception
about the crime which ultimately tends to the perceived reality for the customers. It is also
involved in the criminal policies influencing different developed countries.

Social and Economic impact of crime on wider society
As per the views of the journal, only individuals are not affected by the crime but the
entire communities have experienced the major level of crimes and got affected due to that.
People have a fear even at their homes due to the high crime rate. There are various home
owners which find it difficult to sell the property because of several types of frauds. There are
several new businesses which are avoiding growth due to the higher cyber crime rate. There is
the increasing probability of closing down the business because of the experiences of repeated
thefts and losses. This is because this loss costs high for repairing the damage and also the loss of
customers and reputation in the marketplace as well.

This article mainly targets the various aspects of the crime and news along with the media and
terrorism in terms of avoidance behaviour as well. The current day information and media is
basically defined as the traditional media and different types of outlets of digital born which
majorly includes the alternative data with the help of different media sources which usually tend
to collide (Kivimäki, 2019). There are various elements of this key finding which are discussed
below:
Consumption of crime news as well as fear of crime
According to the research it is investigated that in regards to the relationship among the
consumption of news and the fear of crime is one of the general perspectives. This article has
mainly focused upon the traditional media and the crime news consumption which have the
connection to the fear of crime. It is determined that this article has an influential impact on the
discourse of fear. It targets Mili upon the changing media landscape and the victimization of
crime which has impacted the relationship between the national television and the fear of crime
along with watching local television as well. It is also investigated that the people who live in the
area with the crime rates are intended to get more fear if they watched the local news which are
associated with the crime (Mao, and et.al., 2021).
Crime news consumption and avoidance behaviour
This is the other aspect which is reviewed in the article and is related to the actual behaviour of
the consumers who are watching the news as per the consumption of the news. There are various
areas at which the news can be ignored or avoided by the people. This article has basically stated
that it can impact the consumer in a more influencing manner as compared to the print media.
This article has supported in examining the participants who are living in the city and also the
respondents who are once a victim of any crime in order to avoid the behaviour towards the
negative media (Morris, 2021).

Media and terrorism is also viewed in the current article. There is a rare occurrence of terrorism
but the increasing rate of visibility so that the satisfaction can be made to the modern-day media
consumers. this article reviews the event of terrorism who are targeting the Western societies and

states that that there is a positive relationship between the news media and terrorism along with
the fear of terrorism as well. This article can be concluded by simply stating that the active
consumption of media in regards to crime news are more afraid as compared to the ones who

This article basically includes two aspects of criminal activities in Scotland and the United
kingdom. This article has mainly targeted the different types of crimes which have taken place
specifically in regards to cyber crime. It has mainly focused on the prime cost to the business and
how much the business has to pay for that particular crime and being a victim of it. It has the
newspaper which has mainly focused on the impact of crime on the society along with the
community in context of the crime cost and payment of it (Pozniak, 2020).
Cost of crime to businesses
It is investigated that there are various crimes for example shoplifting and many other products
which have resulted in the large cost to the business in the United Kingdom. These are the crimes
which have led to the big losses such as millions of Pounds every year. Prime cost of the
business reported in 2015 in Scotland is approximately 5 billion pounds. It is examined that there
are hackers and fraudsters who have transformed their traditional crimes such as robberies into
the digital mediums while using the internet for committing the crime. These are the modern
ways of committing the crime with the help of electronic medium and internet and are known as
the cyber crime. Cyber crime basically includes activities like leaking confidential information
and hacking of the system in order to steal the money or for some personal revenge. There are
various companies in the United Kingdom for example insurance and banking who has been the
victim of such criminal activities using the internet. The article also reports that approximately
33% of the crime which is associated with the business and their origin is from the internet who

set up the specific standard of punishments for such crimes so that it can be avoided in future.

upon the different reactions of people in context of different crime news after being consumed
via several mediums like television and print. In context of article 2 then its tense to to target on
the social ladder along with the economic impact of crime on the individual who are living in
Scotland and United kingdom. This article targets upon different types of impacts because of the
crime taking place and are severely related to the cyber crimes. This has basically analysed and
highlighted the losses to the business along with the government as well.
Talking about article 1 then has focused on the different types of crime news consumption and
the avoidance of behaviour in order to analyse a fear of crime rate. The current media and the
data which is referred to the traditional media has the different types of digital born outlets for
example social media. So basically this article has targeted the traditional media which usually
suggest that crime news consumption is intended to have a connection with the fear of crime.
Moreover it is also examined that this article is very influential when determined about the
discourse of fear. basically this article states that there are different media as which demonstrate

the extreme violence and terrorism with the help of media networks which results in the high
possibility of negative outcome on the emotional and mental health of adults as well as of the
children.
Talking about the article, it has targeted different types of crime which has taken place in the
form of cybercrime. This type of crime has resulted in the loss of millions of pounds each and
every year. The business cost on this crime reported in 2015 in Scotland of over 5 million

individual. There are various types of crimes which are related to the punishments and how they
can impact the overall crime rate. There is a government of every country which has the
disclosure of different laws and rules which are to be followed by the people and if not followed
then the human has the right to file the case against them. The report has discussed several facts
on the topic of crime and reviewed various articles in order to highlight the key findings. It has
ultimately supported in analysing the crime impact on the individuals of a society.
