ECU RES 6101: Analyzing Janice's Interview on Kingston School Closure

This case study analyzes an interview with Janice from the Kingston Data, focusing on the impact of a school closure. The analysis identifies key themes such as satisfaction with the community spirit fostered by the school and anger regarding the school's closure. The interview transcripts and coding helps to observe the fact that there is a high level of
satisfaction in terms of the sense of the community in Kingston. This is because in the
interview, Janice has mentioned that “we all love it, it is part of the community”. This means
developing and running of school is highly important for the quality and establishment of
education in the community. Moreover, when the community is developed with the presence
of educational institution, chance of developing an enhanced culture is most likely to be
found because people get to know each other on a regular basis.
When the level of satisfaction is judged and analysed, it can be added that importance of
education is often found; thereby one of codes under the theme is “Satisfied with the sense of
community in Kingston” in which it is found that the interviewee has added the fact that
Kingston pre is great and this means ‘they mix with other kids and it is just great’. As the
candidate has mentioned the fact that the school is nice, familiarity, closeness, sociability,
friendship, comfortability and other elements are aligned accordingly.
The coding theme on “angry about closure” helps to observe the fact that most of the people
in the community hold a negative reaction as Janice has stated the fact that the way things are
done is more of the slip of the tongue that one could find about it and it is shocking fact.
Under theme 2 almost 10 codes are made and all of the codes state the same and similar fact
that closure of the school is highly unacceptable. On the other side, under the code of “Angry
about the closure, identity of the respondents have been found.
In order to justify the establishment of the school that is supposed to be closed in days, Janice
in the interview has also stated the fact that the reasons that some people considered for
closing the school is vague because the quality of education in school in their community can
be enhanced by several practices. Under the theme called ‘Angry about the closure mentioned
that people in the community ‘do lots of peer tutoring across several grades’. Even though

some people in the community have withdrawn their hope that their kids cannot do well in
the school and they are required to send to high school Janice insisted on the establishment of
Middle school. And, it is just like the Japanese do in their culture. This can be considered in
the initiative of developing a middle school because quality of education is certain to enhance
if the tutors of the educational institute tends to enhance a clos monitoring practices on a
regular basis. Moreover, the middle school in the community also provides the opportunity
for developing a relationship with the kids, where the older kids can take care of the small
kids and the age grouping can be stopped. This would rather help to develop a knowledge
sharing practices among the school kids.
