2. Rationale/justification for selection of this topic
The present topic has been selected on grounds of its significance. Every year, there are around 5,600
women aged below 45 years in UK who are diagnosed with breast cancer. It is defined as a cancer that
develops from the tissue of the breast (Banning, 2012). 1 in 8 women are affected by breast cancer during
their lives. Though breast cancer is more prevalent in the middle aged women. However, according to
cancer research UK, the rates of breast cancer have increased among the younger women. One in every
five women aged below 50 years in UK suffer from breast cancer. It is worth noticing that the rates of
survival have increased (Batty, 2013). But, cancer is affecting more and more number of families every
year in the UK. Furthermore, it has become the most common type of cancer in UK. It significantly
impacts the daily lives of patients and their family members. There occur certain physical changes in the
body of the patient due to breast cancer and its treatments (Relevo and Balshem, 2011). It also has certain
psychological effects such as depression, anxiety etc. As younger women are at risk of breast cancer, there
is a need to emphasize adoption of healthy behaviours. The rationale behind selecting the present research
topic is to determine whether changes in lifestyle, such as exercise, can reduce the risk of breast cancer.
3. Hypothesis or research question
