1.1 Research project outline specifications
Background
In present time there has been a high rise in people who are suffering from dementia. It is
a mental disorder that occur due to rise in symptoms such as behaviour change, loss of ability to
do task, increased confusion, etc. They have to be provided high quality care so that they can
recover quickly. In dementia quality of care is main thing that is focused on. The care provided
depends on dementia type and person. Basically, there are three stages of dementia that are mild,
moderate and severe. Hence, the quality of care is to maintained in all three stages (Cartwright
and et.al 2015). For a health care professional the main task is to maintain quality of care so that
patient is diagnosed quickly. Dementia people require continuous support from professionals.
But sometimes care is not properly provided which results in inappropriate results. The care plan
is developed by professionals along with certain standards. It enables in ensuring that standards
are followed in order to maintain quality of care.
In dementia care services play a vital role in improving quality of life of person. It
support in diagnose dementia quickly. Generally, care services are provided at care home or
resident. The main purpose of giving high quality care to dementia people is to reduce negative
impact of their behavior on mental health. In every aspect high quality of care plan plays crucial
role. It is because it ensures that proper care services are provided according to standards. But if
plan quality is not maintained the desired outcome are not attained.
Aim - To analyse the quality of care need to be given to patient suffering from dementia
Objectives
 To investigate type of care given to dementia patient
 To evaluate how quality of care can be maintained
 To recommend measures that can be taken to improve quality of care
1.2 Factors that contribute to process of research selection
Rationale – The rationale of study is to evaluate what type of quality care is provided to
dementia people. Here, scholar get information in depth about what type of care is given to
people (Gilster, Boltz. and Dalessandro, 2018). Also, why it is necessary to maintain quality of
care in dementia. Furthermore, literature review explains in detail about what other authors and

scholars analyze about dementia. So, this study is been conducted in order to investigate
information in more depth.
1.3 Critical review of key references
According to Noel, Kaluzynski and Templeton, 2017, people who are suffering from
dementia requires proper and high quality care. Dementia is a mental disorder caused by
impairment in memory, executive function, etc. In UK approx 600000 people are suffering from
dementia. The common type of dementia is Alzheimer. A person suffering from dementia
experience behaviour and physical changes. So, it requires proper care plan. However, quality is
not maintained in plan it directly impact on outcomes. A care plan includes many things such as
daily activities, meditation, treatment, etc. it assist person in decision making. In addition the risk
has to be evaluated so that its impact can be minimised. So, if risk is not identified it directly
impact on quality of life. There are short and long term goals set by professionals to improve
lifestyle of dementia patient.
Type of care
People suffering from dementia is given care according to their needs. Basically, it
includes meditations, therapies, social support, etc. these helps in improving their mental ability
and enhance lifestyle. This type of care is included in daily activities. So, its quality has to be
maintained. As stated by Smit and et.al 2016, it is necessary to provide care to dementia people
on daily basis. This is because a person may find it difficult to identify his or her identity.
However, it is necessary to maintain a safe environment as it prevents further damage to person
mental health. The main challenge here is to deal with person. Usually, person centered care plan
is developed in many cases. Alongside it, person behavior has to be evaluated daily which is
useful in getting outcomes and comparing it with goals.
Quality of care can be maintained
It is stated that Hallberg and et.al., 2016, quality of care can be maintained by
continuously taking person feedback. It can be done by communicating with them. This will
enable in making changes in plan and offering care services accordingly. Also, daily schedule
can be developed to fulfill patient’s needs. Another measure that can be followed is taking
feedback from person and observing their behavior. It will help in maintaining quality. Beside
this, care plan can be evaluated and risk assessment is done. There should be proper

communication between patient and care worker. By this it becomes easy to get analyze impact
of care on their metal behavior.
As elucidated by Fleming and et.al 2016, the major thing that can be done is to provide
support in decision making. It is beneficial in motivating people and this impact in positive way.
The quality of life of dementia patient depends on quality of care. As dementia people life
is highly influenced by their surroundings. Thus, it needs to be maintained in order to diagnose a
person. When quality care is provided the outcomes produced are positive. In order to ensure it
timely feedback has to be taken and appropriate measures are applied.
In a research done by Cartwright and et.al 2015, it is analyzed that there are several ways
through which quality of care be improved. Here, professional support can be taken in order to
develop plan. Also, guidelines and standards can be set to measure outcomes. This will benefit in
providing support accordingly. Apart from it, regularly making changes in care plan will be
beneficial. By following quality standards in care plan it is easy to make improvements. By
working in groups and collecting evidence helps in improving quality. Other than this, short
terms goals can be set to improve quality. Through achieving that in long term goals quality can
be maintained.
1.4 Produce a research project specification
Research questions
 What type of care is given to people suffering from dementia?
 How the quality of care can be maintained?
 What measures can be taken to improve quality of care?
For present study, researcher will take interview of 10 colleagues and 20 patient of moderate
dementia. Through this, primary data will be collected.
1.5 Provide appropriate plan and procedure
In order to conduct a proper plan is to be developed. This gives an insight on what activity
will be done and when it will start and end.
