Bhattacherjee (2012) focuses on the scientific research tools in the sociology, business research,
clinical research, and other fields of studies. The paper introduces the students to the basic
empirical research, data collection, and data analysis.
Creswell (2014) explains the approaches to solving the research problems in studies. The chapter
expounds on the quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method approaches in the research.
Wright-St Clair et al. (2014) explains the quantitative research methodology using evidence-
based practice and the application in clinical decision-making. It focuses on practice and how
research applies to health practice. The paper contains many case studies from Australia and
New Zealand which are internationally useful for studies in health professions.
Smith (2012) in her 200pg book establishes a persuasive analysis of not only of anthropology but
the cultural evolution of the entire Western concept of research. The writer articulates a new
perspective Indigenous Research Agenda to replace western research methods. She aims to
motivate indigenous people. The writer’s concern is how the western research was conducted for
the good of all.
The research will be of relevance to people of Maori through the application of the Maori basic
principles of research like sovereignty, self‐determination, governance, autonomy, and
independence for their studies to the research (Pihama, Cram, & Walker, 2002). It will help them
identify with their culture.
The research paper will use Maori research Whare Tapa Wha model in which they believe the
health service take the bio-medical model (Durie, 1998). The model fails to recognize parameters
that are not measurable. Therefore, the research is only able to solve the physical needs of Maori.
The research intends to use community leaders to inform the consent of the participants. To
protect their anonymity and confidentiality, they will not be required to provide any personal
details like names.
