Topic: Impact of strategies made by the hotel industry in Canada on the cultural and social
development of the communities
Research Problem and Research Objectives
The fast paced growth of the hospitality industry in the different parts of the world has
significantly contributed to the development of the social and cultural situation of the host
communities. Sloan, Legrand and Simons-Kaufmann (2014) stated that development of diverse
range of hospitality services has enhanced the rate of tourism activities in the different regions.
Tourists contribute to the economy of the host nation and thereby enhances the development of
the local communities. On the other hand, Rasoolimanesh et al. (2015) opined that the more than
80% of the income that is being generated through the tourism activities are utilized by the
airlines, hotels and other amenity providers while a very few percentage of the money is spent
for the development of the local communities and the businesses. It has affected the growth and
development of the local communities and businessmen in enhancing the rate of growth and
expansion of the ventures.
On the other hand, Kim et al. (2015) opined that the different modifications that are
undertaken by the hospitality industry helped in improving the social, economic and cultural
aspects of the communities. In this relation, the growth of the tourism industry in Canada
contributes around 2% to the GDP of the nation while providing a huge scope of employment to
around 1.7 million people (Sigala 2017). However, Jones, Hillier and Comfort (2014) argued
that the growing tourism activities in Canada has created an excessive pressure on the indigenous
cultures present in Canada. The development of the different hospitality practices in Canada has
affected the cultural and social needs of the indigenous communities.

2014). Therefore, the utilization of the deductive approach will assist in identifying and
examining the different changes that might be considered by the organizations while adhering to
the sustenance related needs of the communities.
The study will be conducted through the utilization of the explanatory research design,
which will assist in developing argumentation while focusing on the cause and effect relation
between strategies taken by the organizations and socio-cultural elements of the communities
respectively. The delineation of the cause-effect relation will assist in guiding the research
towards the unbiased outcome of the same while retrieving data points from different authentic
sources. The portrayal of the different aspects of the strategies and the manner in which they are
implemented in the organization with the view of enhancing the development of the socio-
cultural backgrounds of the local communities would be ensured through the application of the
explanatory research design (Liu et al. 2014). On the other hand, the explanatory research design
will assist in identifying the different changes that are undertaken by the hospitality industry in
Canada and the manner in which it is affecting the interests of the local indigenous communities.
Data Collection Methods
The data for the research will be collected through the utilization of the primary
quantitative survey. The primary quantitative survey questionnaire will be created and circulated
among 30 managers from a range of 10 international hotel brands that are headquartered in
Canada. 6the questionnaire will assist in procuring unbiased responses from the end of the
managers based on their understanding of the impact of the strategies that are being framed by
their company on the socio-cultural development of the communities. The delineation of the
different strategies that are being currently undertaken by the organizations and the manner in
which the same are affecting the interests of the communities would be researched.
