Homework Assignment
AI Summary
This assignment provides a detailed analysis of research methodology, emphasizing the significance of literature reviews and research philosophy in the research process. The assignment starts by defining the purpose of a literature review, highlighting its role in understanding the topic of discussion, gathering relevant information, and identifying research gaps. It then explores the benefits of research philosophy in a research project, discussing the three key aspects: ontology, epistemology, and axiology. The assignment explains how research philosophy guides the orientation and approach of researchers, ensuring successful research outcomes. The solution references several academic sources to support the arguments and provide a comprehensive understanding of the topic. This assignment is a valuable resource for students studying research methods, offering insights into the core concepts and their practical applications. Purpose of Literature Review:
Literature review is the integral part of a research paper or research methodology. The
main aim or purpose of the literature review is to gain a complete and sound understanding of the
topic of discussion, and to gather relevant information of the relative areas. Reviewing the
literature helps in gaining a complete understanding of the important concepts and theories that
will be helpful for conducting the research. The literature review also helps in developing an
understanding of the research methodology that will be helpful for conducting the research.
Therefore, the purpose of literature review can be divided into two parts, first is that, it
helps in understanding the related and relevant concepts. The literature review is often
considered to be solving a jigsaw puzzle, whereby, gathering information helps in a developing a
sound idea of the considered topic or concept and thus, developing the research gap, that is, the
area, where the sufficient research has not been done yet (Garrard. 2016). Thereupon, developing
a detailed research in this ate where the sufficient information is missing, and developing a new
area of the concept.
Secondly, the literature review is not just a fathering information regarding a topic. It also
refers to the evaluation of the sources of research. There are usually found a plenty of
information, regarding a topic, but the evaluation of the concepts and understanding the
authenticity of information comes from the process of literature review, as in a research paper,
information are only gathered from the journal articles and peer reviewed articles (Hart. 2018).
Benefits of Research Philosophy in a Research Project:
The research project refers to the projects that the business houses or the consultancy
services are developing. It is more commercial, employee related, relevant with employability

experience, and are completely organizationally oriented. There are two parts or aspects of a
research project, first is the understanding of the students of the project of the organization, and
the second is the research method, organization of the information and the recommendation upon
the research project (Burns, Bush, and Sinha. 2014).
Now, while developing a research project it is very important to include and develop a
research philosophy. The research philosophy determines the perspective or the orientation of the
research method. There are essentially three forms of the research philosophy. The first is the
ontology, which refers to the practical understanding of the research topic. The second aspects is
the epistemology, which refers to the understanding or the theoretical knowledge of a concept.
This involves the scientific understanding of the considered topic. Along with that it includes to
the interpretation of the gathered information. This essentially controls and involves the critical
thinking abilities of the researchers. The last aspect is Axiology, which includes the
philosophical understanding and the interpretation of other researchers regarding the same
concepts or regarding concepts of the relevant area (Dougherty, Slevc, and Grand. 2019).
Therefore, the research philosophy refers to the orientation of the research and the approaches
that the researchers must include and involve in order to conduct the research successfully.
