Report
AI Summary
This report delves into the realm of qualitative research, focusing on its design and methodology. It begins by defining qualitative research and its distinction from quantitative approaches, emphasizing the inclusion of concepts, descriptions, and characteristics rather than numerical data. The report analyzes several articles, discussing their qualitative nature, data collection methods like literature reviews and interviews, and data analysis techniques such as critical review and inductive approaches. It also highlights the roles of researchers in these studies and the contributions of these studies to technology theory, particularly in the context of software usage and system theory. The report provides a comprehensive overview of qualitative research, its applications, and its significance in the field of technology.

RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY 2
Introduction
Qualitative research is a scientific method of observation to gather non-numerical data. In
this type of research concepts, description of the things, characteristics are included but do not
include counts, measures etc (Wu, Thompson, Aroian, McQuaid, & Deatrick, 2016). In this
report, “Examining qualitative research design and methodology” topic is selected. Further, three
articles are also selected to made the discussion about the reason which make study qualitative,
data collection and method. The discussion is also made on the contribution of these articles to
the technology theory.
Qualitative study
Rahman describes that the present study adopt both qualitative and quantitative method
but the whole analysis and data collection methods make the study more qualitative (Rahman,
2017). It is because the study provides the subjective meaning of the method, in this it also
include issues, events and other characteristics but does not move to the standardized statistics as
well as measurement. The study is qualitative it is also due to the reason because it focuses on
the mixed approach that is describing the naturalistic approach of the subject matter.
Wu, Thompson, Aroian, McQuaid, & Deatrick conduct the study by describing the
evaluation of the qualitative method in the research (Wu, Thompson, Aroian, McQuaid, &
Deatrick, 2016). Therefore, this study also make it qualitative it is because the overall study
focuses on the behavioral aspects of the study and describing the role and significance of
qualitative research in increasing and containing new theories and philosophies. The study also
focuses on describing the procedure of conducting and reporting of the research so that in-depth
information about the information will be revealed.
Symon, Cassell, & Johnson also focus on evaluating the practices which are used in
managing the qualitative research (Symon, Cassell, & Johnson, 2018). Therefore, this study is
qualitative rather than quantitative it is because researchers concentrate on describing the
positivist assumptions as well as procedure of the subject matter in more critical manner. In the
study it adopts various different practices and approaches for analyzing the information about the

subject matter. A researcher describes the clear and concise definition and meaning of the
qualitative research with addition of the review study.
Data gathering
Rahman demonstrate that for conducting the literature review method is selected it is
because through this feeling, attitudes and opinions of the different authors are taken into
consideration (Rahman, 2017). Researcher also describe that qualitative research manage the
relationship between the processing of information with the in-depth performance of the subject
matter. Therefore, in this study various approaches are also adopted which includes
interpretivism research approach, interactive approach.
In this study data collection was done by conducting interview from the different authors
so that their perception is taken into consideration (Wu, Thompson, Aroian, McQuaid, &
Deatrick, 2016). This helps in describing the role and significance of the theory in the qualitative
research and study also demonstrate that the sample size for collecting the data is less in
comparison than that of quantitative data.
Symon, Cassell, & Johnson also adopted review method by reviewing the various
literatures it is because the each topics of the qualitative method is investigated by taking the
attitudes of the authors. This helps the researchers in classifying the each section by describing
the characteristics and practices which is to be adopted for qualitative research.
Data analysis
In the study data analysis is done by adopting critical review method that is taking the
perception of the authors in highly critical manner (Rahman, 2017). This helps the researchers in
describing the definition and application of this method on the current study. This critical
explanation leads in describing the advantages and disadvantages of the qualitative approach.
Further, the researcher also uses observation technique so that evaluation regarding the
qualitative method application is identified.
The study adopts the systematic dependability approach so that data will be clearly
identified, defined, interpreted and described with the findings of the research (Wu, Thompson,

Aroian, McQuaid, & Deatrick, 2016). The study also use descriptive research design so that
description of the research is done in more critical manner by comparing the required data
through the other authors findings so that similarities as well as dissimilarities of the study will
be revealed.
In this study Symon, Cassell, & Johnson adopt inductive approach so that analysis of data
is done in more efficient manner (Symon, Cassell, & Johnson, 2018). It is because through this
researchers can describe the particular design for making inquiry about the subject matter. In this
analysis researchers adopt the framework of grouping the data in the similar area and then
describe the relationship among them.
Role of Researchers
The role of Rahman in the study is to describe the overall concept of qualitative method
and describing the approaches which is to be used in conducting the study by using qualitative
method (Rahman, 2017). Researcher collects information from the existing literature so that data
regarding the advantages and disadvantages is also revealed. The role of the researcher is also to
describing the each approach of qualitative method with the techniques which is used in each
approach.
In the present research role of the researchers to take the perception of the authors by
conducting the interview in this various questions were developed according the needs of the
subject matter (Wu, Thompson, Aroian, McQuaid, & Deatrick, 2016). So that overall concept of
qualitative method needs to be addressed. The role is also to examining the software programs
which is to be adopted in analyzing the data which are collected.
The main duties of the Symon, Cassell, & Johnson are to select the articles which are
related and appropriate with the subject matter (Symon, Cassell, & Johnson, 2018). In this
researchers also maintain the responsibility is to evaluate the debates which are done by adopting
the qualitative research. This help in revealing the different approaches and techniques which are
appropriate in different situation and in diverse criteria.

Major contribution to technology theory
The studies make the contribution to the technology theory it is because it describes the
software which are to be used in analyzing the data (Rahman, 2017). The findings of the
research also reveal the tools and techniques which each researcher adopt for evaluating the
information in each study (Wu, Thompson, Aroian, McQuaid, & Deatrick, 2016). The
researchers also focused on the system theory which helps in maintaining the connections with
the factors and other aspects which describes the methods of qualitative research (Symon,
Cassell, & Johnson, 2018). Therefore, the estimation demonstrates that in some of qualitative
research there is direct association of study with the theory of technology.
