AI Summary
This report is a reflection on research methods, emphasizing the importance of research skills for data collection and analysis. It utilizes Gibbs' reflective cycle to analyze the author's growth and development throughout a research project focused on employee performance management. The reflection covers the initial excitement and subsequent challenges in data collection, the evaluation of positive and negative outcomes, and the analysis of areas needing improvement, such as communication and problem-solving skills. The conclusion outlines an action plan to develop these skills through active participation in leadership and team-building activities, aiming for career growth and improved capabilities. INTRODUCTION
The report is based on the reflection about research methods which assures that an
individual must have research skills. Research is a simple means of collecting data sets and
present it by using tools, approaches and strategies which contributes in preparing a new
hypothesis or carry out an existing study (Tote and Rawekar, 2020). It is a reflective report
which enhance the performance of an individual into their work capacity. There will be use of
Gibbs reflective cycles which was developed in 1988 by Graham Gibbs. It will help in analysing
how the model has ascertained growth and development in own practice.
MAIN BODY
TASK
Gibbs reflective model
It is a reflective model which is beneficial to give a whole experience about the situation,
work practice or any particular area or field. There are many changes and functions performed by
an individual which may have both positive and negative impact that needs to be addressed in an
appropriate way. It gives 6 stages which gain step by step experience about own performance
and work activities. In context of my research project, the whole experience is described below:
Description: This stage refers to the proper details of the events happened by an individual.
It will provide insight about what has happened, who are the people and what are its outcomes.
Therefore, in my case my experience includes about working on a research project. I was given a
task to prepare a project though which I could assess my skills and gain understating on the
topic. My topic was to research about managing performance of the employees and what
challenges faced by the organisation (Barbagallo, 2019). Therefore, it is required for me to give
my proper time and beliefs in working on this project. I was supposed to write this project in my
own words by going through with quantitative and qualitative analysis of the data. I start giving
time for this project from my daily schedule as I did not find much difficulty due to having good
knowledge about the tools and methods of research. I need to first find my research problem,
present literature review, identify the data sources and conduct quantitative data analysis. Also, I
need to visualise the data and present appropriate findings and conclusion. I thought it would be
an easy task which I can complete within limited time frame.

Feeling: this stage of cycle reflects the feeling, beliefs and values that describes the overall
experience took place during an activity. I was feeling excited to work on the performance
management tool as it is part of my interest and career goals. I felt confident to collect data from
huge number of sources. But when I was practising on my project, I found it doubtful whether to
gain data for quantitative analysis which require high level of accuracy. I stared felling nervous
and out of the confusion as I found many data from book and journals but I got confused which
data I should take and which one to eliminate.
Evaluation: the evaluation take place in terms of what are the positive and negative
outcomes of the learning area. It has been evaluated that, my experience was happy and full of
excitement to conduct a research as I got support from my teachers and co-partners as well. I first
get under doubtful situation on collecting and gathering information but I was able to overcome
with this situation through keep finding right data from authenticated sources (Ahmadi, 2020).
Then I prepared notes to not miss any relevant information and present numeric figures.
Analysis: it has analysed from my overall contribution that I ned to work on many areas
which are still lacking in my experience (Hall, Fassbender and Jones, 2021). As I get excited and
overconfident at initial time due to which I have wasted a lot time in unnecessary activities
which impact on my work completion. Then I came back to work on research and got tensed
about presenting in front of the whole class. So I decided to write as good as I can and improve
on my communication skills to not hesitate in front of the others.
Conclusion: I have concluded about the areas and activities which requires more attention. I
need to focus on my communication skills through giving time to improve my vocabulary. So I
have decided to develop my skills in problem solving and communication area. These skills will
help me to represent my capabilities in front of others and prepare another projects as well.
Action plan: Through action plan, I will focus on developing my weak area like
communication and problem solving. I will take part on leadership and team building activities
in research project though which I can face complex problems and work for finding the right
solution (Attaalla, 2020. This will take time of 1- 2 months in order to develop these skills by
being in university. It will help me in my career growth and planning to represent my potential in
order to work for large companies.

CONCLUSION
The report concludes about the overall reflection on research methods and how it has
utilised. It has analysed that, skills like communication, problem solving and numeracy must be
present in a person to prepare a meaningful study. For that instance, the report has shown how
the valuable contribution of books, journals and other secondary sources that helped in finding
right data for the research project.
