I have been a part of the armed forces since 14years and maintaining a family life
with the military services is never an easy task for the parents. As a parent to an eight year
old girl and a wife along with me who is also working in an MNC in Delhi, it was always a
challenge for us to deal with the transfers of a person from one place to another. This
hampered the studies of my child and also the working life of my wife. Whenever I get
posted to field areas, my family had to suffer along with me. Hence, I decided for my next
field posting to keep my children safe and securely in a city and move to the new place alone.
It is not easy for a parent to leave his child and wife in an unknown city but I chose
Chandigarh for the same purpose because of the well planned and safe structure. The schools
in Chandigarh are good enough to carry my child’s further education and my wife could re-
join her job in a city like Chandigarh as it has equal opportunities. Chandigarh is a newly
constructed city in India which is also a capital of two states, named Haryana and Punjab. It
is well structured city with proper transportation facilities. It is also known for its rich culture
and security structure with proper policing facilities.
There are not many cities in India which guarantee a good percentage of safety and security
as it is in Chandigarh. Because of its selection as a smart city, is modernized and one of the
developed economies of the country. Because of the initiatives taken by the government, it
stands with an upgraded infrastructure and lifestyle.
Chandigarh stands as ales populated and is dividing amongst various sectors with commercial
and residential belts. A person living in the residential area would not be disturbed by the
hustle bustle of the city roads and children can safely drive their bicycles in the cycle belt
provided for the peddlers.
There is a range of shopping complexes and market for the families to easily access the
products and buy needful for home. Being a person away from home, I would have thought
for a city which has-
 Proper infrastructure
 Well built roads and colonies
 Proper transportation facilities like bus service and cab services
 Various attractions like rock garden, sukhna lake, botanical garden and various other
parks and garden which can be used for leisure
 A good environment
 A city with rules and regulations
LIVING IN CHANDIGARH – STATISTICS
Chandigarh has been a home to many outsiders and with a wonderful cantonment present in
the city; it is accessible for the military families to be in touch with the various facilities
provided to the families of armed forces. Buying home in Chandigarh is bit of difficult task
because of proper verifications and budget but it acts as a positive point for the families
whose male family member is out of the city for a long time and is unable to keep a check on
the needs of his family. Hence, Chandigarh stays at the top of my wish list for a family to
settle in.

The high literacy rate gives a secure feeling of a good educational value for the children
living in the city. The quality of education is better than other cities and the missionary
schools help children to be a better version of themselves, not just in the educational
background but also in co-curricular activities.
A large range of opportunities available for the children makes them better for a better future
and makes them choose more efficiently for their own future.

Crimes in the city have been all time low in the union territory. The demographics show the
crime rate percentage in the following cities of the country, which shows Chandigarh, has
been at the lowest rate in the country which is good for the new families to settle in.
Chandigarh is named as the fifth most liveable city in the country as per the reports given in a
newspaper daily. It was ranked as the 5th in the ease of living index which was calculated in
2018 amongst the 111 cities taken from north India.

CONCLUSION
As per the details provided in the following report, it has been found that Chandigarh is one
of the best choices to b chosen as a city for family person to live in. with its smart city
initiative and many other projects the support the ease of living for the people living in the
city has made it in the top ranks of various surveys and is also entitles as one of the safest
cities in the whole country. Being a military person, I would love to see my family happy and
content from their living conditions and also want my child to grow and develop in a better
environment for a good future and this all can be found in one particular city so, being a
father who lives away from his family, I want my child to study well and my wife to be able
to follow her dreams as well as get a comfortable life for the future. After a tiring posting
schedule of mine, it would be blissful to come back to an environment which is friendly and
healthy in terms of living.
