AIM AND SIGNIFICANCE
Aim of study
‘To analyze the importance of role and responsibilities of registered nurse.’
Significance of study
The significance of the study is to understand the role and responsibilities of nurses for their patients. There
are many changes occurring in healthcare in UK from technology to rules and regulations which affect the
delivery of services to patients by nurses. It is important to carry on the research on nurses and their roles
which include care for individuals from different cultural backgrounds and support patients through illness
and health issues. This research will help in increasing knowledge of the student as if they pursuee their
career in nursing. This will help the student in increasing its knowledge about providing support and advice
to patients and handle them with care (Holloway, 2016).
The research is important as it will develop humanity and sense of love and care which will help the students
in growing humanity and will help in increasing their intellectual skills and will develop interpersonal and
communication skills with patients as well as will develop leadership quality and will enhance sense of
development (Heeringa,2017). The study will improve discipline and control under students to carry on
nursing activities efficiently.
METHODS
Characteristic of research design used in the study
The research design used in the study is descriptive framework which help the student in getting the answers
of whom, what, when, where and how associated with the problem of research. It takes qualitative data and
obtains information on current problem and describes all the related variables of the study. All variables used
in descriptive design are independent in their own capacity. The characteristics of descriptive design are as
follows:
It is type of qualitative research method that tries to collect data based on observation so that data can be
statistically analyzed with sample of population. It is the most popular form of design used to describe the
nature of sample population.

In descriptive design, all the variables are independent and do not affect each other in any way. These
variables cannot be controlled by a researcher as this design uses observational methods to conduct the
research.
In this design of study, different sections are studied that belong to the same group.
The data generated by descriptive design can be used as a base for further researches and can also help in
pointing out the type of research methods needs to be used in the further research as all the data are based on
rational observation from top to bottom which helps the researcher in finding out the result in systematic
manner.
It provides basis for decision making and most of the decisions are drawn from descriptive design by
analyzing observation and psychology of the subject.
Sampling techniques used in the study
Sampling method used in this research was probabilistic sampling method under which simple random
sampling method is used in which all the individuals are chosen on the basis of probability. All the
individuals have equal amount of chance to get selected. This method is used as it gives equal chance to get
selected to all the individuals and reduces selection bias. It is also considered to be a straight forward method
and does not include complexities and is easy to understand.
The inclusion and exclusion criteria used for selecting sample and studying the participants are standard and
requires a lot of practice when high quality research rules are designed. Inclusion criteria consists of key
features of the sample that is selected by the researcher and will use them to answer their research questions.
The inclusive and exclusive criteria defines clearly that which individual or subject can be excluded and
included in the study. The inclusion criteria help the study in identifying the population in a manner that is
reliable, consistent and same. The exclusion criteria on the other hand include factors that are ineligible for
the study and need not to be taken into consideration.
On the basis of exclusion and inclusion criteria, the researcher can make a judgment regarding their impact
on the validation of their results and for making efficient judgment the researcher need to have proper
knowledge of the area of research (Silverman, 2016).
Data collection method used in the study
The data collection method used in this research was questionnaire and asked questions which was distributed
among 25 nurses of the hospital. Questionnaires are the set of questions that are prepared by the researcher

for the purpose of the study and are given to the sample which are selected to answer and based on that the
researcher find out the answers and conclusion to the study. The primary data collection method also
includes survey and interviews.
The study took primary data as they provide fresh information which are collected by the researcher at
the moment and get all the relevant information without any biassiness and manipulation. It provides
accuracy to the study as it is directly collected from the population. It is based on specific information rather
than irrelevant information. It also helps in cross check the answers as it was collected by the researcher
(Smith, 2018).
It was used in this study as the nurses were the sample of the study and to collect information relying on
primary data is the best approach. Direct conversation with the subject matter gives validation to the study
and increase the knowledge as well. It also includes direct observations and watching people at work by
judging their behavior and practices relevant to the interest of researcher. Moreover, primary data can give a
adequate and realistic approach to the study which is under consideration and also it has high reliability as it
is collected by the person who was really concerned about the study.
3. DATA ANALYSIS AND RESULTS
Evaluation of data analyzed and its appropriateness
This study has used qualitative analysis to analyze data and it takes statistical procedures and analyzes the data
in observations. The data is analyzed by using unbiased inference, which means the data need to be bias free
and they need not be any favoritism. Data which are need to be analyzed need to be accurate and stable.
Under qualitative analysis it has used thematic data analysis which generated themes based on the
questionnaires. It is the best method when researcher wants to get knowledge from the data collected as this
method develops deep understanding of the subject. It is highly inductive in nature and researcher applies
statistical analyses to validate themes (Silverman, 2016).
It starts with getting familiar with the data then generating various codes to manage data analysis process.
After generating few codes then creating initial themes that have similar relationship with each other and the
process continues until there is other assembling possible. After this the researcher reviews the initial themes
against data without missing important details. After reviewing name and define the themes by providing a
comprehensive name and then write a final report on the study.

This was appropriate for the study as it was highly flexible and can be modified according to the need of the
data. It helped in summarizing important features of large set of data and helped in producing clear and well
organized report. It clarified the prescription and procedures efficiently and helped in understanding the role
of registered nurses (Braun, and et.al., 2019).
Findings of the study
The major reason of conducting this study was to know the importance of the role and responsibility of
registered nurses in providing care and safety to the patients. The study helped me in increasing my
communication skills and knowledge about the major issues faced by patients of the nation even after they
get treated by the nurses. The study not only increased the knowledge but also increased the humanity and
self awareness about the surroundings. It increased the confidence and boosted interpersonal skills.
The research used qualitative analysis as it involves personal observation of the subject and used thematic
analysis to define them. It has used primary data which are free from biases and are fresh data. The research
helped in increasing the understanding of problems arises even when the nurses are registered and still
patients are treated ill mannerly. By conversing with patients, the researcher came to know about their issues
and problems that patients are facing while getting treated by nurses, by getting neglected by the nurses etc.
Limitations and recommendations of study
Limitation
The limitation of the study was time constraint as the time to ask questions was very less therefore the sample
used was small but the sample which was selected were highly confident and intellectual therefore the results
did not get affected. The other issue arise was under confidence and shyness in taking to people and asking
them questions but with the help of my tutor the research was conducted with confidence and gave efficient
results. The another issue arise was cost issue as the budget of conducting research was very low but with the
help of friends and family the study was carried out efficiently.
Recommendation
The government of UK needs to be stricter on its policies and procedures about condition of
patients.
The regular check on nurses should be conducted by CQC (Care Quality Commission) to make
sure that patients are getting proper treatment with care.

The patients feedbacks need to be taken by local authorities and in case of any complaints strict
action should be taken.
