Report
AI Summary
This report analyzes the coronavirus pandemic, focusing on research papers from 2010 to 2020 using keywords like coronavirus, pandemic, and respiratory illness. The study employs both qualitative and quantitative approaches, with a particular emphasis on the PICO framework to address the research question: "For coronavirus infected people, how would non-invasive ventilation be effective in the treatment of acute respiratory failure due to coronavirus?" The report examines several key research papers, including those on non-invasive respiratory management, high-risk pulmonary infections, and respiratory support during the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal is to critically appraise these papers and compare viewpoints to provide a comprehensive understanding of the topic. The report references the United Kingdom situation regarding the pandemic and highlights the importance of protective measures for healthcare providers and patients.

INTRODUCTION
Corona virus disease is an infectious disease which is caused due to newly discovered
corona virus. The virus mainly transmitted by droplets developed when an infected individuals’
sneezes, exhales or coughs. The individuals infected with corona virus experience mild to
moderate illness related to respiration and recover without needing special treatment. In United
Kingdom, till now there have been 1,512,049 confirmed cases of coronavirus with 54,751 deaths.
In this assignment, the research paper on corona virus pandemic will be selected and those will
critically appraise. Apart from this, the view point of authors will be compared in the report so
that valid outcome can be drawn.
The research papers selected in this project is not older than 10 years. The papers will be
from year 2010 to year 2020 and from British nursing index/ Medline/ CINAHL. For critically
appraising those papers, the viewpoint of authors, methodologies used and other aspects will
have discussed. Apart from this, in this assignment, the keyword used includes corona virus,
pandemic, respiratory illness, non-invasive ventilation intervention etc. Patient and health care
provider, wearing masks is very necessary in order to protect themselves from the spread of
covid-19. This project helps in determining the interventions in order to improve safety of
patients from the corona virus pandemic.
For formulating research question associated with this project, PICO framework is used. It is
a process used in the practice which is evidence based in order to frame as well as answer a
clinical or health care associated question. It is widely known strategy for formulating
foreground research question that constitutes as population, intervention, control and outcomes.
The PICO question associated with this study is “For corona virus infected people, how would
non-invasive ventilation effective in the treatment of acute respiratory failure due to
coronavirus?”
Population People infected from corona virus
Intervention Non-invasive ventilation
Comparison No comparison
Outcomes Treatment of acute respiratory failure due to corona virus

In this study, from qualitative and quantitative approach, qualitative approach will be used
as by the help of this approach, detailed descriptive data can be gather on the topic which is
second hand or already collected by others. However, quantitative approach can also be used in
the study for gathering numerical information on the topic. Use of both the approaches can assist
in gathering adequate amount of information regarding the topic. In this project, different papers
on the topic will be selected and analysed.
The studies which will use in this study includes:
1. COVID-19 pandemic and non invasive respiratory management: Every Goliath needs a
David. An evidence based evaluation of problems.
2. Noninvasive mechanical ventilation in high-risk pulmonary infections: a clinical review
3. Respiratory management in severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection
4. Effectiveness of non-invasive ventilation in the treatment of acute respiratory failure due
to coronavirus
5. Respiratory failure and non-invasive respiratory support during the covid-19 pandemic:
an update for re-deployed hospital doctors and primary care physicians
6. Feasibility and clinical impact of out-of-ICU non-invasive respiratory support in patients
with COVID-19 related pneumonia
