4PAPERLESS EDUCATION
Introduction
Paperless education has been an evolution in the field of digitization and educational
resources. This process of implementing paperless education will include rapid technological
advancement. Computing devices will be implemented in the classrooms, which will be
enhancing the teaching process of the teacher. Universities have been encouraging the
implementation of paperless education. Less usage of resources are the main advantages
provided by paperless education (Kumar). This proposal discusses about the background of
the research that is to be used. Positive and negative aspects of using paperless education
system will be well discussed in this proposal. The aim of the research is also stated in the
research proposal. A literature review regarding the topic of paperless education will also be
provided in this research. This research proposal will discuss about the literature that is
present in the peer-reviewed journals. The intended outcome of the project is also stated in
the project. Targeted demographics are also stated in this research proposal. Data that will be
collected via the peer-reviewed journals and questionnaires will be stated in the research
proposal. The time that is required for the completion of the entire research will also be stated
in the proposal. Incorporation of the timeline of the project will also be benefitting the
execution and demonstration of the project. The budget that is required for the completion of
the proposal will also be stated in this section. Ethical consideration that will be affecting the
entire process will also be stated in the research will also be stated in the research. Outcomes
of the project will also be stated in the proposal.
Background Study
The effort that is provided by the teachers is irreplaceable. Enhancing the teaching
process with the help of latest technology implementation has been the major motive of
paperless education (Mackey, Alison and Susan). The efficiency of the teaching process will
Document Page
5PAPERLESS EDUCATION
be increasing after the implementation of the paperless education process. Communication
among the students and the teachers have been a major challenge in the education process
that is to be mitigated. The environment has been getting affected since the usage of paper as
trees are being cut for the manufacturing of paper, and hence, global warming issues will take
place. Discouraging education can never be the option due to degrading environmental
situations. Hence, the usage of paperless methodologies for performing the educational
process will be providing an advantage in ecological prospect (Silverman).
Effect on the Market Research
Market research regarding Paperless education will be providing a high benefit on the
advancement of the process. The main benefit that will be received due to the processing of
the market research, in this case, is that the process that is to be implemented for the growth
of the entire process will be well understood (Taylor et al.). Client requirement will be
understood in a better manner. This also ensures that steps that will be taken for completion
of the entire project will be as per the requirements of the projects. Analysis tools are to be
used for proper monitoring of the paperless education system.
Research Aim
Aim of the research is to understand the benefits that are to be received after the
implementation of the technology of paperless education process. Another major aspect that
is to be considered includes a better understanding of the disadvantage that is to be faced due
to the implementation of the technology. Another aim of the research is to understand the
architecture of the proposed paperless education system. With the help of the understanding
of the project, requirement development of the architecture gets easier and much more
precise.

Research Objective
H0: Teaching process will have no link with the paperless education implementation.
H1: Teaching process will suffer due to lack of manual interaction in between teachers and
student.
Existing Knowledge
Integrating technology in the classroom has been the major aspect that will be
imposing a proper impact on the functional process of education. Implementation of digital
technology in the education process is one of the major processes that will enhance the
functioning process of education. Workflow process will also be being benefitted after the
processing of the business management. Proper coupling of the education-based benefits
along with a decrease in cost and time that is required for completion of the educational
process is performed in a manner that benefits the functional process of teaching as well as
the learning process. It is noticed that there has been a major improvement in the speed of the
educational process (Flick). Learning potentials have been well understood. In place of the
printing pages after pages for providing notes to the students’ digital media can be used for
better performing of the educational process. Posting pdf in the digital media for enhancing
the education process. This usage of the digital platform for teaching process will also be
having a high benefit for the students. Papers might get lost during the printing process and in
between the stapling process, but with the usage of the digital media, it gets efficient as a
processing unit as the chances of data getting lost will reduce. This will ensure that data that
is to be provided to the students will stay intact (Ledford, Jennifer and David). Even students
might lose the notes provided by the teachers. This will again act as a constraint in case of the
processing of the data management of the notes that will be provided. Again with the help of
the digital platform implementation for the processing education system data that are

provided to the students are kept as a backup. As per the system of the backup, the main
advantage that is received includes the fact that storing the data as per the provided learning
will be increasing the robustness of the provided data will increase. In case the student or the
teacher loses the data that they have received once or have provided the students, the main
instance that is taken into consideration is that the data are kept in the cloud system and hence
they can retrieve the data even after they lose the data. This process will surely increase the
efficiency of the educational process (Bresler, Liora and Robert).
Architecture
Design tool processing of the paperless education process will be benefitting the
framework. Paperless Distributed Control System will also be benefitting the functional
process of the level of design. With the help of the design tools, usage of the stimulated tools
will be received (Alvesson, Mats and Kaj). This stimulation process will be benefitting the
framework of the entire process. This process will also ensure that the indiscriminate
application of the design tools will be implemented and the framework that will be proposed
will be analysed and tested. Usage of ArchiCAD for the designing process has been a major
element that betters the functional process. Usage of QTVR animation process will also be
performed. Again, with the help of these tools that are stated in the architecture design will be
providing high efficiency in the processing of the educational field. Digital designing will be
performed as per the designed architecture.
Advantage
According to Quinlan et al. (2019), speed of data transaction in the process of
education has been a major enhancement that has been gained after the implementation of the
paperless classroom technology. The data that are provided to the students are not published
as books individually rather the entire data of the book is structured and accessible by the
students. Another aspect that is to be considered is that there will be no requirement of time
Document Page
8PAPERLESS EDUCATION
for printing and publishing of the book. The students are distributed with e-books and e-
journals that are in electronic and digital based platforms. This is the main reason that
acceptance of this technology has been this high.
According to Weibel (2016), the cost that is incurred in the publishing of the books
and journals have been the major cost that was spent by the teachers and hence increasing the
cost that is asked from the students for completing their education. However, with the
implementation of the paperless education technology, the cost that is incurred in publishing
and printing the books and journals is axed off and hence the amount that is demanded from
the students gets reduced (Patel). This reduction in the cost of education will facilitate.
Hence, the rate of education is expected to increase gradually.
According to Carley (2014), environment betterment has been the major benefit that
will be received after the implementation of the paperless education system. This has been
noticed that education rates have been ever increasing across the globe. This incurs excess
usage of papers. Paper is generated from trees and cutting of trees for manufacturing paper
has been affecting the environment in a negative manner. For mitigating the tree cutting that
is used for the paper generation, usage of paperless education will be providing an edge for
bettering the environmental condition. Again, with the help of the paperless education
environment will be being benefitted in a manner that will enhance the educational as well as
the environmental process.
According to Schneider (2014), the communication process has been getting better
with the implementation of the paperless education process. This process ensures that many
students get access to the data that are provided by the teacher at the same time, and the
handling process gets easier — studying while travelling has been getting better. This ensures
that better educational process will be being benefitted. Another aspect that is taken into
Document Page
9PAPERLESS EDUCATION
consideration is that the problem solving process also is benefitted. Interaction with the
teachers will also be getting proper, and hence, management of the doubt clearance will get
more efficient. Gaining access to the data and notes multiple times will be benefitting the
entire process of education, and hence, this will help in getting better grades.
Disadvantage
According to Rumpa et al. (2017), despite the several advantages that are present,
there are a few disadvantages. The main disadvantage that is present is that the physical
presence of the teachers will be absent. This physical presence of the teachers is considered
highly valuable in the process of the educational process (Franklin, Roslyn and Jubilee
Smith). Again, the main aspect that is considered is that in case a student is neglecting their
studies, teachers will not have any chance of guiding the teachers, and this will be negatively
affecting the students.
Intended Outcomes
The outcomes that can be identified with the implementation of the paperless
education are expected to be significant for both the organizations availing this facility as
well as the individuals that are adopting this type of facility for carrying out their educational
purposes. This technology is continuously being used in the modern times within the
education sector to make the learning procedure more feasible as well as easy for the
institutes as well as the students involved with this organization (Amick, Aaron and Nancy).
This technology intends to develop a paperless classroom shortly. This will help the students
not to carry heavy books as well as notebooks daily while visiting the institutes. In the
concept of paperless education, the items that are identified to replace the books are identified
as the usage of tablets and other electronic devices that can adhere to the overall knowledge
within the educational sector.

10PAPERLESS EDUCATION
The most significant benefit that this variant of educational system offers is depicted
as the non-usage of any kind of physical paper within the institutional premises. This will
help the individuals to maintain the information that is present within the paper as well as
keep them safe from being lost or forgotten (Yahya, Salah and Dilan). The enhancement of
the safekeeping of the data in a digital format is very essential for the students studying in
different sectors that are likely to be colleges, universities an even in schools. Moreover, this
will also provide great ease to the teachers that they do not need to waste paper as well as the
cost for providing individual handouts to every individual in the mode of photocopies within
the institutional organisation. In accordance to this method, the document can be uploaded by
an individual teacher in the online platform that can be accessed by the students for providing
their completed assignments as well as access the notes provided by the teachers in the same
portal.
Moreover, the students can organise their files within the digital platform (Iqbal and
Ahmed). The files can be well organized within the digital platform used by the institution for
a disorganized student that could not be present within the institution premises in case of any
emergency or inconvenience situations. The usage of hardcopy textbooks can also be reduced
by the usage of paperless education. By the usage of a digital platform within the educational
premises, it can adhere that the student will have a regular update of their tasks that is to be
performed for their education (Cobham et al.). The useful notebooks, as well as the books
that are stated to be useful for the education of the students, can also be stored within the
digital format so that it might not get lost or have to be carried each day to the institutional
premises. Moreover, in addition to this if the digital devices are used within the institutional
premises, it will also be helpful as these devices can be used for internet browsing which will
provide the students with a great volume of knowledge for their own enhancement.

11PAPERLESS EDUCATION
Given the benefits, the paperless education can encounter several challenges. The
primary issues that are faced with the usage of the paperless education are depicted as the
setting up of the digital devices for the students as well as making it available for the
students. This may consume time, thus hampering the class time of the students. Moreover,
time will be consumed if the students are trying to download the educational apps from the
respected stores of the devices. Another most significant issue is the login password. This has
been observed that students often forget their password, which may disrupt within the
institutional premises (Vidyarthi, Arpana and Maitreya).
Targeted Demographics
The targeted demographics regarding the usage of paperless education is depicted as
the primary educational institutes as well as the training centres where there is a flow of
knowledge within the premises. This will benefit the areas of students staying in colleges,
universities, and schools as well as training centres (Altena). This will also benefit the
institutes that are implying the technology of the paperless education within their institutional
premises. The most popular usage of this type of educational method is intended in the
education sectors of the countries like United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New
Zealand and many more.
Data Collection
The data collection method can be categorized into two types, namely the primary
data collection method and secondary data collection method. For particular research that
would be conducted appropriately, data is an essential asset. Research process would be
conducted with the help of the primary as well as secondary data, or by using either primary
or secondary data (Vasant). Primary data can be is referred to as the data that would be
collected from numerous interviews questionnaire and survey. Secondary data can be
Document Page
12PAPERLESS EDUCATION
described as the ones that are collected from numerous books, journals or articles, which have
the data already and can be used for conducting the research. Primary data helps certain
research in getting an idea of the present scenario, and secondary data helps in collecting data
regarding the history of the concept along with the present scenario. For the research to be
carried out effectively, primary as well as secondary data would be collected. The primary
data would help in researching by conducting a particular survey, based on the data obtained
from the survey, the researcher would analyse the data. The secondary data would help the
individual who is carrying out the research, being dependent on numerous books as well as
journals, which has been published already (Safieddine, Fadi and Imad).
Justification for the chosen method of data collection
For this particular research, the researcher would be collecting the primary data from
the students within the universities who have been a part of the concept of paperless
education. This sort of data is collected from universities that have already implemented or
started to implement the idea of paperless education (Nakhoul, Imad and Fadi). The
questionnaire that would be prepared must be open-ended in nature, and the views obtained
from the data collection method along with the proper recommendations must be given.
Besides this, the researcher would also tend to rely on numerous sources that are secondary in
nature for this particular research.
Sampling method
There are usually two types of methods that could be used for sampling to complete a
certain process of research. The sampling methods include a probability sampling method
and non-probability sampling method. The first sampling method, which is the probability
method, helps in selecting the samples as well as respondents randomly (Jiandong). In this
particular sampling technique, the researcher must know the respondents who would be
targeted and would be appropriate for the research.

Justification of the method of sampling
For this particular research, the researcher would depend on the method, which
includes the non-probability method. The researcher had selected a certain group of
professionals from the universities who had been initiated the concept of paperless education.
They also select the participants who have a clear idea on the technology and have been using
it since some time in their daily lives. This data has been collected to gain data on the fact
that whether the students are being benefitted by the technology or they have been facing
issues due to it. The universities who have implemented the technology would have a better
idea regarding if the technology has better scope in the future or might fail in providing
benefits for the long term. This is because the students have been accustomed to technology
and would provide a better review regarding it (Indrajit et al.). The professionals such as
staffs would be able to provide the review on if the technology has been making the process
of teaching easier or more difficult and time-consuming. The professionals would also be
able to provide recommendations on how the technology could be improved such that the
students, as well as professors, can extract more benefits from the technology.
Research Methodology
Research methodology would deal with the strategies that would be used for the
conduction specific research. Research methodology can be referred to a certain process,
which would aim in helping in the process of conducting certain research in a particular
symmetrical as well as organised way. This particular methodology helps in improving the
understanding of numerous types of techniques that could be utilized in the research that
would be carried out (Weibel). Hence, the research method could be described as a certain
process for carrying out research, which is structured in nature along with being effective
after implication.
Document Page
14PAPERLESS EDUCATION
Types of investigation
The investigation that would be carried out would be of three types. The strategies
include exploratory, descriptive and hypothesis. The research method named explanatory
method can be used for investigation when a specific researcher does not have any clear idea
regarding the topic on which the research that would be carried out. The research could be
conducted with the reference of numerous scientific ideas or opinion on the topic. The next
research method named descriptive research study has been conducted along with the help of
related concept as well as the theory that has already been developed (Runnels, Judith and
Arthur). The research study, along with the help of related concepts and theory particular
descriptive research could be carried out. Besides this, the hypothesis testing research could
be carried out; a particular hypothesis can be developed, based on the hypothesis, the research
would be conducted to prove the fact that hypothesis is either proper or improper.
Justification of the investigation chosen
To carry out this particular research, the descriptive research study would be
implemented. The theories that have been earlier developed would be considered at this
moment while the research would be carried out. One more method that could be to carry out
the research includes qualitative data analysis; this analysis would be carried out after the
data has been collected from numerous interviews and surveys (Iqbal and Farid). The similar
data analysis would also be carried out from the data that has been obtained from the
secondary data that has been collected in this research method.

Ethical Considerations
There is a certain code of ethics that need to be implemented. The research ethics will
help in preventing the different act of misconduct. However, it is important to understand the
different code of ethics that must be implemented while performing certain research in a
team. The main reason that if the research is not set with certain rules and regulation, then
there are high chances of different kind of malpractices (Mariana and Narti). The first things
that the researchers need to work upon are related to the ethical code of conducts. In recent
time, the development is made at a much faster rate. The ethical consideration can be stated
Document Page
17PAPERLESS EDUCATION
as one of the most important aspects of the research. There are certain key principles that the
research associates need to follow. The research participants are not supposed to harm anyone
while they are doing their research work. The place or the people who are involved in the
research must be respected, and full knowledge must be given to them about what is
happening. In the process of the data collection, any information, which can mislead the
research, needs to be avoided at the very first instant. It must be the duty of the people to
respond to the research and to participate voluntarily in the research. All the privacy of the
research need to be maintained (Bafna). The ethical laws are the sets of instructions, which
helps in identifying and differentiating between the rights and the wrongs. While performing
the research, the ethics must be protected and maintained regularly. The ethical consideration
also states that the data must be protected which are related to the research. The discussion,
the method of analysis and the objective of the research need to be maintained throughout the
entire process of the research (Gielen, Gerard, and Lieven).
However, the ethics can also be termed as the code of conducts, which need to be
performed or must be maintained while the certain task is performed. It states or deals with
the overall behaviour and presentation of an individual. In the ethical consideration, which is
related to the research states, that individual who is willing to participate must have the entire
information regarding the research, its methods and the reason why it has been conducted.
However, this knowledge will help the researchers in performing their task much easier. It
will also help in gathering different sets of information with more precision (Shishkovskaya
et al.). It is important that the researchers are clear about their objective and the volunteer
need to be informed about any sorts of damage they can get while the research being
performed. A disclaimer need to be maintained, which will help in stating all the facts
regarding the research and will help in safeguarding the laws and ethics of the research. All
the ethical rules and regulations need to be maintained and recognize so that the entire

balance is maintained throughout the research process. Acknowledging and appreciating the
work of other researchers when it is used during the research is a vital aspect of the research
process (Parmar). The privacy and protection of the respondents are one of the biggest
responsibilities of the researchers. However, the ethical consideration related to the research
proposal is the proper maintenance of all the ethics.
The ethical consideration in the research is one of the critical aspects that the
researchers deal with while performing the research. Different ethics helps in protecting the
ethical dilemma. The ethics help in preventing any sorts of false data or promotion of any
kind of false knowledge regarding the research. There is a different stepwise process, which
the researchers need to follow to mention the ethics. The ethics give a clear idea in stating
what is acceptable and the things, which are not acceptable related to certain research
(Greenstein). There are different sets of ethical consideration when different qualitative
research is performed. However, it can be stated that ethical consideration plays a major role
in the research.
Further Outcomes
The research will be facing a number of challenges that need to be overcome. For
today’s generation the education without paper is one of the biggest problems. It is clear from
different research that paper is made from the raw wood of the tree (Amick, Aaron and
Nancy). It simply helps in concluding that paperless education will be helpful in our near
future. With the invasion and development of new technologies, the paperless education can
be done in a much easier and convenient way. The benefits can be simply identified, and it
makes the work of the students much easier. Without the paper, the student can easily move
anywhere they want and can study accordingly. The paperless education will help in
maintaining the standard of living with the improvement in the technology. The paperless

education will help in improving the health of the students as well as there will be no heavy
textbooks. All the lectures and notes can be easily circulated with the use of different
technologies. The education system will become more flexible and convenient for everyone.
However, shortly there can be research regarding certain disadvantage as it consists of both
advantages as well as the disadvantages. The use of technology will help in circulating any
information at a much faster rate. The grading system can be improved if new technology is
introduced in the education system (Mirkena). Researchers in their further studies need to
highlight how paperless education can be improved. Certain challenges need to be overcome.
Certain unexpected issues can arise in the way while implementing paperless education in the
entire world. However, certain places and students are unable to access all the information,
internet and technology. Moreover, the introduction of new technology can be a disadvantage
for certain students. There is the scope of different research work in the field of paperless
education.
