INTRODUCTION
A research is broader concept which require deep level of knowledge and understanding.
(Barton, 2019. In this report, it comprises of types of research, comparison between quantitative &
qualitative research, advantages & disadvantages of data collection methods. With changing period
of time, it is important to generate new concepts & knowledge.
MAIN BODY
Research
It is process of developing or creation of new knowledge within a particular field. It
focuses on gathering of credentials, data with aim of understand the issue. It is essential to
implement research so that new credentials is gained (WIESE, 2018).
Types of research
There are two types of research which is primary and secondary & are used by investigator
depending upon requirements or needs. Both types of research are important & play important role
in collecting of credentials.
Primary research
It is defined as research in which information is being collected on the basis of using new or
fresh sources. In this, it includes source such as questionnaire, interviews, surveys etc.
Secondary research
It refers to research in which data is gathered through use of secondary resources. It is less
time consuming as compared to primary because information is already collected by others. It
involves sources like books, magazine, newspaper, etc.
Comparison between quantitative & qualitative research
BASIS Quantitate Qualitative
Meaning It refers to information or data
which is numerical form, or in
numbers which can be
determined(Park, 2016).
It refers to gathering of data in
form of descriptive &
subjective which can be only
observed.
Techniques In this to determine numerical
data certain techniques are used
like Likert scale etc.
In this, observation is used as
technique to examine data.
Sources It includes types of sources like
surveys, observation, secondary

Advantages and disadvantages of data collection methods
Data collection is a process of gathering information & evaluating results. Data is being
collected for a specific purpose and which is needed to be well defined. To gather data, there are
several types of methods which are explained below-
Primary data collection – Advantages
In this method, original data is gathered through sources like surveys, interviews etc.
It enhances the reliability of information at higher scale.
By obtaining new credentials, appropriate recommendations can be made about research.
Disadvantages
It is time consuming and cost expensive approach of gathering data(Barton, 2019).
Market research is to be conducted to use this approach.
Secondary data – Advantages
In this, information related to field is easily available & which can be used by investigator
properly.
It is less time consuming as compared to primary approach.
Disadvantages
The collected credential is not always reliable which can cause problem in research.
It is not always possible to find appropriate sources for specific field (WIESE, 2018).
