INTRODUCTION
Reflection is a form of writing used for demonstrating feeling and experience that an
individual has while doing any research or work. This report is based on three parts – The first
part focuses on The craft of Research by Booth W.C. Et al(2013), Conversion Journals Article
on Uber and a business case study on Virgin Galantico. It is analysed that what are the different
important interpretations that are taken from these three secondary data methods. Part 2 of this
research includes reflective report on my skills and experience that will help me in doing this
report in effective manner.
PART 1
The three research items included in this module are listed below -
Chapter from Craft – This is a journal that contains information about how researches are
conducted and what are the various types of researches and how they are conducted.
Virgin gigantic go global - Virgin Gigantic was started by Richard Branson and in October this
company became the first commercial space flight company that was listed in the stock market
(Virgin Galantico,2020).
Uber case – This is a company which provides freelancing services in different countries. With
the technological advancement, it is analysed that Uber drivers have to provide 25% of it's share
to the company.
Critical research portfolio
2.1 Found interesting about the research items
Chapter from Craft: I was attracted for doing this file as it is an interesting topic and by reading
this article, I will be able to develop research skills and abilities. This will help me in future for
doing good researches (Craft of research, 2020). As I want to do good researches in future, it is
essential for me to grab more knowledge about how to conduct strong researches and make
effective outcomes.
Virgin Galantico: After reading this business case study , I analysed that it is essential for each
and every organisation to meet the realistic demands and needs of customers. Marketing is very
effective while attracting people to buy your service.

Journal article: Uber is a taxi ride service organisation which is providing services in various
countries. The drivers of Uber have to provide their own vehicle, pay their insurance and pay all
fuel costs.
2.2 Why interesting
Chapter from Craft: Research is an important aspect of student's life. They have to perform
various researches for getting good expertise. Research is important for every student as it gives
them chance to have knowledge about the particular topic they are researching for. People come
to know about new facts.
Virgin Galantico: This case study shows that failure to execute the program can cost the
company a lot.
Journals Article: Gig economy is a new concept which has given some hope for the independent
workers to claim their employment rights.
2.3 How useful for studies/development
Chapter from Craft: It is useful in extracting the relevant information by developing various
skills such as communication, time management, organisation etc.
Virgin Galantico: This can be used for understanding the failure of business and what can be
done to overcome the losses.
Journal Article: This can provide knowledge about the rights of employment which can help in
implementing them practically in corporate world.
3.0 Three key points of information or argument considered important
3.1 First key point
Chapter from Craft: When I read this Journal, I came across the main aspect of conducting a
research which is known as research methodology. It involves various ways of collecting data
used for conducting researches. Data collection methodology manages logistics of the research.
Virgin Galantico: This organisation has vision of private space flight program but this failed due
to the tragedy of plane. I analysed that planning is essential for the company before executing the
process.
Journal article : As the technology has advanced, there is change in the way of working of
organisation (The Rise of the ‘Gig Economy’: A Case Study of Uber, 2020). Uber uses various

technological instruments for supervising it's employees at work and this include smartphone and
wearable devices.
3.2 Second key point
Chapter from Craft: Surveys are the most important part of research. This journal defines how
strong researches are conducted by using surveys. This includes a fixed number of respondents
who are asked questions about the research topic.
Virgin Galantico: This company has failed to deliver on expectations in the past. This missed
own targets for flight commencing and experienced catastrophic accident in the year 2014.

3.3 Third key point
Chapter from Craft: Interpretation is the best part of the research as whole research depends upon
it. Recommendations and conclusions of the research are made by using the interpretations. This
journal effectively explains how to make effective data interpretations.
Virgin Galantico: The biggest achievement that this company attained was in the year 2018
when this company was successful in achieving first orbital space flight. This company has
developed a line of high tech clothing that passengers will wear in flight.
Journal article: When the Uber court ruling is set for future disputes, government of UK must
land large tax windfall.
Part 2
Reflective report-
While providing the conclusion of this report, I have used Gibbs reflective model for
outlining the prime discoveries. Gibbs model of reflection has been given by American
sociologist and psychologist Graham Gibbs which help in thinking in a systematic way by
focusing on the experiences gained during the particular situations. Gibbs model has been used
in this report.
Leaning from the module
This report comprises of three different topics viz. Craft of research, Uber- gig economy
workers, and Virgin Galantico. According to my perception, there are many factors which
regulate the market and should be known to the management of every company that is operating

in the UK market. I have found that Craft of research is to help the graduates to carry research
containing meaning and whose data can be used for critical analysis. Uber case of gig economy, I
have found that there is no clarity in the status of the drivers who are engaged with Uber. The
judgement in this case is useful for ascertaining the legal rights of the individual working in Uber
and other companies. The last being the case study of Virgin Galantico which may have done a
mistake by selling the tickets to the customers and not taking anyone to the space as it has started
to make losses already. These cases shows the ineffectiveness of their strategies, management
and other aspects.
Importance of the learning
Learning is continuous process which add new things, facts etc. to the existing
knowledge level. This research has helped me in determining the entities are vital for the
development and growth of an economy. I have come across so many new facts which can be
useful in enhancing the my knowledge about how to operate the business. Craft of research has
helped me in enhancing my research skills with the help of which I was able to give my own
judgement on the cases of Virgin Galantico and Uber. Furthermore, I have realised that to put an
argument, it is necessary to have sufficient amount of data which is authentic.
Usefulness and areas of interest
I am a student who is learning new things everyday and gaining knowledge about the
these cases can help me get a good job. I can be asked questions related to these topics in
interview which can help get through the stages and crack it leading to the job. Apart from this, I
can use these information in giving advices when I enter the corporate world. Also, I can get
high scores in my assessments test as well as enhance my knowledge level on the basis of these.
In addition to this, it is useful for making me conduct further research without any delay as I
have learnt to manage the time allotted for the research. In nutshell, it is beneficial in making me
a better person by learning about the failures of these companies so that I can provide better
solutions if any such situation arise in the the company in which I am going to work in. also, it is
always good to have both theoretical knowledge together-with practical application.
CONCLUSION
From the above discussion, it is analysed that there are different ways of grabbing
information through secondary resource. Some of these are articles, journals, newspaper articles,

business case study, etc. Marketing is an important factor that helps in managing the profit and
sales of the company.
