Facts

In this case there was a lady named Ilnaz who gave an interview for the job in CompuSoft

organization. After the job interview the manager of company was quite impressed and

provided her the job. The company was dealing in the DVDs designing. Ilnaz was from Iran

and the culture of Iran is something different. She was asked to share a project with one of

her male colleague Mark by her manager. But her religion does not allow her to work with

an unrelated man and her husband also refuses her to do so and threatens her to leave the

job. She wants to communicate regarding this ethical dilemmas she is facing at the

workplace with her manager. Here the Framework of White is used to solve this dilemma.

The legislation covered in this case study is Safe Work Australia Act 2008. Following are the

steps to be involved in this case study to solve it:

Step 1 Analyse the consequences

Ilnaz is facing an ethical dilemma at her workplace due to the rules of her religion and her

husband. She is not allowed to share her work with Mark, her colleague but unknown to

her. She is the one and the whole organization getting affected because of the decision of

this manager.

Clause 1.2.2 Enhancement of quality of life
states that the work of a professional should
enhance the quality of life of the stakeholders and the society. But in this case the life of

Ilnaz is getting affected due to the family and religious problems she is facing because of the

decision made by her manager. This element of code of ethics is not being followed in this

case.

As per the clause 1.2.4 Competence
states that one should accept only such work for which
he or she is competent. They should not accept any work which can create a problematic

situation for anyone at workplace. In this case Ilnaz is not comfortable in working with Mark

and she is not competent to do such project with him.

As per the clause 1.2.6 Professionalism
States that there should be professionalism
maintained and every professional is required to be committed to work. There should not

be such unprofessional behaviour which adversely impacts on the work. In this case Ilnaz is

not able to maintain the professionalism at workplace due to the problems she is facing.

Step 2 Analyse the actions

1.2.2 (b) Clause of professional conduct

According to this clause there should be a protected and healthy working environment at

workplace for the professionals but ilnaz is not feeling safe working with her male colleague.

There should be made attempts to enhance the feeling of personal satisfaction at the
workplace and the competency should also be there. Ilnaz is not competent at her

workplace.

Clause 1.2.4 (f) of professional code

This clause says that every professional should take the responsibility at the workplace to

perform in an appropriate manner so Ilnaz is required to follow this code and should

communicate to her manager about the problem.

Clause 1.2.4 (g) of professional code of conduct

As per this clause the respect should be given to every professional at the workplace and

they should seek each other’s help whenever there is requirement of expertise. Ilnaz is

required to follow this professional code.

Clause 1.2.6 (h) of professional conduct

As per this clause there should be sound communication among the employees and they

should coordinate with each other at the workplace to complete the given tasks. Here Ilnaz

is required to follow this professional code of conduct.

Step 3 Make a decision

In the given case Ilnaz is required to communicate her problem with the manager and the

manager should make a decision to change the partner of Ilnaz and assign her work with a

female employee so that this dilemma can be solved.
