Discuss the differences in operational requirements of specialist
areas and the potential issues managing the different specialist
areas for a range of resorts
There are some operational requirements that are part of speciality areas and
some of the potential issues that are arising while managing specialises areas of a
range of resorts are mentioned below:
Ski resort: The ski resort is generally developed for snowboarding, skiing and
winter sports, lots of the ski resorts are located adjacent to ski are or a mountainous
area with ski lift system. For the purpose of people developing preferences for these
resorts, they must possess experience. So the major issues are the location of these
resorts as they are generally located in northern and southern hemispheres. They are
generally located on mountains and require large slope. Sometimes the operational
requirement is in form of staff members who possess the required skills to train some of
their guests so that they are able to enjoy the main activity of these golf resorts (Byun
and Jang, 2018).
There is operational requirement for snowboarding and skiing. Ski slopes have to be
open and other operating system includes snow cat operators. Lift mechanics, ticket
scanner, ski school instructors for teaching ski, adaptive lessons. Janitors and pick up
trash for ensuring natural environment development.
Golf resorts: The main issues in case of the golf resort are the idea of golf as a
game. In this game there has to be a detailed experience and passion for playing golf
for the target segment of customers otherwise there will be no enhancement of revenue
for such resorts (Li, 2020). The first golf courses are based on the topography of sand
dunes and dune slacks with a cover of grasses and are exposed to sea and wind.

Health and safety: safety passers-by and golfers is very important to consider for
ensuring that safety of all the tourist is properly taken care. Safety to golfers and passer-
by is very important to consider in case of different golf resorts.
Caddy staff: in golf resorts caddy staff is very important for carrying on the equipments
and driving the golf cart.
Maintenance staff and course management: there is requirement of golf landscapes
and greenkeeper who are basically responsible for the up keeping of golf course and
sports for developing of a playing surface that has to be properly maintained.
There are some of the issues that arises for the management of such golf resorts
is to design a golf course that is challenging enough because there are certain limits
that can only be used for the purpose of attracting majority of customers. A perfect golf
course can be deigned only by skilled architects who are having detailed questionnaire
of the natural landscapes, understanding of the cohesion of grasses, vegetation, paths,
woodwork, stone work. A golf course design layout has to follow some traditional
principles that includes number of holes. Another important component is the
arrangement of greens proximity so that there can be minimization of distances and
varying of mix of different sizes of holes.
Beach resort: The major operational role that is focussed in case of Beach resort
is the location at the seaside and the facility to access the private beach. Beach resort is
offering a wide range of services, amenities and also includes the reactional and
entertainment facilities (Li, 2020).
Water treatment of pools: In Beach resorts pools are treated with chlitien has, calcium
hypochlorite, chlorinated isocyanurates. All these components are added to water so
that they can act as sanitizing agent and clean the water regularly.
Maintenance of equipment: different equipment that includes the boats have to be
timely maintenance so that there can be prevention of any type of operational difficulties
while the tourist are operating the vehicles.
Heath & safety of families: there must be used of blue flags that can be provided to
boat owners the information boat individual blue colored boat owners have to be
displayed on the information board.

Adequate & well signposted lifesaving: at different danger areas there has to be
proper sign posting so that there can be prevention from any types of events that can
result in danger of the tourist who are visiting such resorts.
First aid & fire fighting equipment: there has to be presence of first aid facilities so
that in case of situations of emergency a speedy solution can be offered to injured
people and a timely rescue can be provided. Here has to be proper installations of fire
extinguishers & water hoses at respective facilities that is easily accessible by all the
tourists.
Protection of degradation is also a major concern for developers for future
improvement. There has to be a development process that can lead to a balance
between physical capacity and the economic needs of the developer.
Potential issues managing the different specialist areas for a range of resorts
There are some of the issues that are faced by resort managers while they are
managing different functional areas of resorts. These issues are a company faced by
them and have to be focussed in order to reduce its negative impact on the overall
functioning of the organisations.
Issues: One of the major issues in ski resorts is to provide rope tows so that are used in
case of short slopes. larger ski areas require gondola lifts and aerial tramways across
longer distances in ski area.
Ski resort: skiing resort includes energy intensive operations, relying on use of
fossil fuels and producing of green house gases all this is contributing towards a
scenario of global warming. So for maintaining the surface of snow a resort may require
ski runs that is deploying of a nightly felt of trail groomers each operating on 5 gallons of
diesel each hour that is producing nitrogen oxide, carbon dioxide and other emissions.
The numbers are incomplete and it results into issues of greenhouse gases that are
emitted in dissociation with resort skiing.
Coach for lessons: Another issue that is related to ski resorts includes the
course management where there is need of (Ahn and Thomas, 2020). It is also a issue

as there is large number of experts who are requires in such resort for the purpose of
providing the coaching and guidance to tourist in order to enjoy skiing as a sport.
Operational requirements: some of the specific operational requirement of ski resorts
includes the ski patrol service to ensure that injured skiers are rescued. It is also based
on offering services to deal with dangerous situations. Some ski resorts are offering
lodging options on slopes with services of ski-in and ski-out that is allowing ski right up.
It also leads to an operational requirement to perform activities such as sledging, ice
skating, snowmobiling, hot tubbing.
Operational requirements: The major operations in ski resorts includes providing of
basic first aid facilities for ski patrol service to ensure that injured skiers are timely
rescued. There has to be presence of ski patrol that is responsible for rule enforcement,
making hazards, closing individual runs and removal of participants from dangerous
areas.
Golf resorts:
Management of water: it is a issues that is arsing in golf resorts because of the
requirement of water for maintaining the field in such resorts. This issue can be solved
by contributing towards aquatic ecosystems & watersheds. There can be use of water
cycle by naturally treating water that can lead to slow percolation of aquifers and soil
that will lead to improvement of quality of water (Breitbarth, Kaiser-Jovy and Dickson,
2017).
Beach resorts:
Another issue is managing the specialist requirement is a healthy flow of water that can
offer pleasing quality surrounding. There has to be only reasonable fluctuation in the
water levels. Architects have to take into account the social interest of boaters for
supporting the facilities. Users are divided in-service traffic and social by destination.
There is another operating requirement for marina development, boat launching equity,
firefight, boat sewage disposal and boat storage facilities. All these are some of the
specific operational requirements that are also an issue for the management of such
resorts (Breitbarth, Kaiser-Jovy and Dickson, 2017). managing of weather condition's si

emergency department so that a timely response can be provided in case of cyclones
and storms based ob requirements. It is the responsibility of the owner of such resorts
to take necessary actions to ensure safety of people in these resorts.
Alerting procedures is also a requirement in such resorts where there is need of
gathering all the available details of state of emergency and then simultaneously
alerting the resort tourists in case of emergency response situations.

TASK 2

sales objectives providing specific examples
In order to influence and grab a large number of people towards services, the
hospitality industry could use package strategies (Channoi, Clemes, and Dean, 2018).
The term package strategies refer to devise a path that will helps the management team
to get success in the execution of planning. In which there are various types of resort
package by which the company can fill their entire resort.
Cromer Country Club By Diamond Resorts is offering a package at rate of 50
pounds over night. In which the package includes below mentioned services:

ordering all the modern conveniences fir elevated standard of comfort. Further there is
presence of spacious accommodations and furnishings for ultimate relaxation of guests
that is part of this package. There is extensive on site activities & resort style amenities
to provide a ideal family vacation. In this package there is aquarobics, badminton game
room, fitness centre, steam rim, sauna, entertain abounds that will be offered without

Bed and breakfast package - In such kind of resort package, the management team of
the resort can provide offers like if anyone stays at the resort for two days then they can
use Wi-Fi services, swimming pool as well as complimentary breakfast. The packaging
facility leads to building up of an effective distribution strategy that offers third party and
Direct options. It also facilities booking by providing them with exclusive rates for their
loyalty members. In this package, there are also additional services that are offered to
14

guests that comprise of package tour where there is also transportation services it can
be vial buses, cabs or any other personal services that are offered by resorts. Package
holidays are generally organized by tour operators and then sold to travel agents who
are employees of tour operators. It is made up of two components that are
accommodation and the details of food & beverages along with the other additional
services to be offered to customers. Other different amenities that are an additional part
of such resorts include Pool, Spa, Tennis, Fitness clubs, child care, city centre.
Advantage for customer: Bed and breakfast package provide a unique glimpse of
local culture & flavour. It leads to built in tour guide for area's restaurants and
attractions.
Disadvantage for customer: when there is breakfast in bed then there will no sharing
of common areas by other vacationers in dining room, parking area or living area that is
going to lead towards no interaction taking place with other patrons and proprietors.
Revenue of resort: Resorts are earning revenue by resorts as there is average
revenue that is earned from the additional services and products that are offered in the
resort through these type of packages.
Packages are reflecting a solid way to drive demand. Resorts are benefited as if the
guests are there for more time period then they will be spending more time for bar, spa
and room services as compared to guests who are there for a short duration of time
period. The packages are a array that is offering robust tools & insights to helps the
partners to stay informed, it also provides them with data driven insights in the power of
packages (The power of packages , 2017)
Event package: In this type of package, the management team of the resort tries
to make strategies or packages that are related to the events. For instance, a family
wants to carry out a marriage function in a bigger resort that time this package
strategies will aid both family and the owner of the resorts. In the package they can offer
music, stage performance, and effective along with all they can offer them a swimming
pool also (Ahn, 2019). So that they will able to carry out their party with full fun. This will
give benefits to the company in terms of enhancing the sales and profitability of the
resort, as it attracts a large number of people towards their services. The two-night
15

package is very attractive and it is helping customers to have more benefits when they
are staying at the resort. This is helpful in providing effective service to customers and
making them feel comfortable. There is a need to have effective ways to manage this
package deal and provide it to customers. This helps to enhance the customer
experience
Advantage for customer: event packages are very cost effective as all the specific
requirements that customer need are part of this package and it leads to meeting of all
their specifications, it is a very effective budget that leads to
Disadvantage for customer: Sometimes all the services that are required by
customers are not offered in certain event packages that may lead to difficulties for
customers. So sometimes there is no proper inclusion of all the services in case of
hosting of special events such as marriage, birthday parties.
Revenue for resorts: in case of event packages guests are ready to pay over the basic
pay rates as they are willing to pay for the extra benefits and experiences that are being
offered to them in such cases. It has also lead to unprecedented opportunities for resort
owners for capturing the profitability of ancillary revenues. This paradigm shift has lead
to shift to a revenue management strategy.
All inclusive package: In relevance to Crow Wood Hotel and Spa Resort, their
management team provides a holiday package in order to grab more people towards
their services. In packages, they offer 7- days services which include free wifi,
continental breakfast, 24-hour front desk and room services, indoor pool and the room
are fitted with air conditioning, a flat screener TV with satellite channels, a kettle, a
shower, a desk, a hair drier, as well as a private bathroom with private pool and
wardrobe. In addition to this, those people who took this offer of holiday package then
their welcome will be organised in order to take advantage of the sauna and hot tub.
People can play tennis also their all these services are included in the package (Park,
Hsieh, and Miller, 2019). As the maintenance cost of all these is lesser compare to
leasing prices so the company will get huge benefits in such kinds of the package and
this will ultimately help them in enhancing their sales and profit of the company. The
main disadvantage that is associated with holiday packages is that there is a lack of

control. The tourists have to follow the strict schedules as determined by the planers
there is no presence of any type of flexibility that affects the tourists if they are having
any sudden additions or changes according to the present situation then they are not
able to do so and this sometimes results into higher frustration on part of such tourists.
Advantage for customer: there are many advantages of all inclusive packages as it
includes less stress for there is high value for money and brevet conditions are offered.
There can be proper socializing with people who are sharing similar interests,
customers can also choose from myriad of options as there is also prevalence of lot of
entertainment and facilities.
Disadvantage for customer: There are some of the disadvantage of all inclusive
packages that is high risks because sometime there are lot of claims made by the
restaurant but it may or may not be met. Sometimes there is probability that if the
prospective customer is not a experience traveller then they may not get the best deals
and ultimately they are spending higher amount then actually it is required.
Revenue for resorts: resorts are earning revenue by the gaps between the package
revenues and occupancy. These two have been traditionally the key performance
indicators to monitor the boosting of profitability of all inclusive resorts. There is
consideration of total guest value in these cases that comprises of the revenue that
customer is bringing from different profit centres and all the cost associated with it are
deducted including the acquisition and the package cost. There is use of such insights
for targetting the valuable guests to make accurate forecasting of demands,
optimization of revenue and driving of high profit margins across different market
segments.

CONCLUSION
From the above-mentioned aspects, it is concluded that there are different types
of resorts that are according to the location and the types of services that they are
offering to their customers. Each is varying according to the specialty that they are
offering in their services. According to such specialisation each has a set of functional
and operational roles that have to be performed by individuals in these resorts. The
difference in creosote packages is because of the services that are combined with
special customisations that are offered by each resort. There are various types of
packages that are according to the level and quality of services.

Reflection for the presentation
I and my colleagues Kristiyan, Svetlana, and Andrey have presented LO3 and LO4. We
analyzed the consumer needs in a specific location to create a resort package that
focuses on these needs and we applied the guiding principles for achieving sustainable
tourism for a chosen resort.
We choose the Old Course Hotel that is located in the university town St Andrews, on
Scotland’s east coast.
Svetlana started with an introduction about the hotel, its location, facilities, and
attractions inside and outside of the organisation. She explained deeply for the golf
place, dining, shopping, spa, and the rooms. She talked more about the activities
outside the hotel.
My part starts with the three biggest competitors for our chosen organization. These are
Hotel de Vin, Forbes of Kingennie, and Fairmont St Andrews resort. I compared the
prices, the offered services, entertainment, facilities, location, and attractions regarding
Old Court hotel. For that purpose, I used the internet, visited Google Map, Trip Advisor,
and the website of the resort.
Then I made market research which is very important to carry out a feasibility study in
order to come up with the best practice that will benefit them in terms of gaining a
competitive advantage and fulfilling the consumer needs of their clients.
I made second research in Trip Advisor and customer reviews to be sure what are
customers' needs and wants and what kind of offer could be more profitable.
Holiday packages have been found to be the best and the most lucrative way to
expound on profits as it ensures that it attracts a lot of people with expenditure and who
are looking to unwind. I have found that the family’s packages are the most profitable.
Then I have presented the business plan for a family Holiday called Family Weekend
Adventure, where all activities, food, and room are included.
The objectives and goals of the package are to increase the profits of the Old Court
Hotel and spa by 40%. To improve the customers’ satisfaction to ensure that they will
make the resort their first choice destination every other time.

The holiday package will target middle-income earners that frequent the area. They are
in excess of 85% of the total visitors and guests in the resort.
Then I explain how we choose the package's name and show the prices of what is
included in the services offered.
After this, my colleague Kristyan continued with an explanation of the main topic of the
package where he explained difference activities for families and older people. Also, he
presented the execution and how important are social media pages such as Facebook
and Instagram. He spoke about the operations, metrics for success and management
summary.
After Kristyan was continued, Andrey. He started with the sustainable practices by the
Old Course Hotel. He explains deeply about water conservation, golf grass, and room
keys. Also, he was talking more about recycling wastages.
The conclusion of the presentation is that resorts such as Old Course Hotel Golf Resort
& Spa should ensure that they are changing to ensure that they have a competitive
advantage over the rest of the competition. Through the introduction of packages such
as the Family Weekend Adventure Holiday, they will be able to attract more people to
them. Sustainable practices should also be enhanced to ensure that they attract more
people.
I think this was a good presentation where we show knowledge’s about the topic of the
study.
