Introduction
The chiefpurpose of this report is to provide very brief information regarding the human
resource management and the defiesconfronted by the business that is present in the industry
of retail in retaining and attracting the employees. The sector of retail is one of the most
diverse industries and it regularly needs people to employ. Mainly organization like Tesco as
they need employees regularly in order to manage their action in the sector of retail as it is
one of the most diversified sectors which are also in regular need of people to employ.
Various organizations like Tesco regularly need workers to manage the action of the
company in the external environment. The companies which are present in the industry of
retail mainly hold a major share of the market due to which the company needs the
employees to manage some of the diverse activities of the company. This essay will explain
the issues and the encounters confronted by the businesses in enticing and recollecting
employees in the, moving ahead the essay will also explain the recommendations for the
organization (Bailey, Price, Pyman, & Parker, 2015).
Key challenges in attracting and retaining employees in retail
industry and recommendations
It has been seen that retaining and attracting the customers in the market is of the most
important thing for the human resource management of the organization. As the people are
one of the most significant resource of the organization without which no organization can
work and that is the reason it is important to attract the employee in an organization and it is
also important to make them stay in the organization, the retention of workers in the industry
of retail has become one of the major concern for the organization as no person wants to stay

in the company with high pressure, workload and tension. The industry of retail is one of
those industry which is always in demand by the consumers and it contains products for
daily needs and because of this reason I order to meet the demand of the customers the
retail industry needs human resource as well(Broadbridge, Maxwell, & Ogden, 2007).
Moving ahead it is also seen that there are various challenges and issues which are
faced by the companies in the retaining and attracting the quality that people present in the
target market. The lack of career advancement and the opportunities for development is one
of the most important reason because of the which the people do not prefer employing under
this sector or the industry (Yousaf, Sanders, & Yustantio, 2018).
Apart from this there is also a correlation among the store ambience and the design along
with the demography of the client such as their age, number of family members in the family,
income and frequency of their purchase. And since the retail industry is vast, It has also been
able to classify that there has been opposing levels of gratification and enjoyment among
regular clienteles as well (Duong, 2016).
The organizations which are under this specific industry are always unable to attract
as well as retain employees in the activities of the organization because of which they
become very less competitive in the industry , another main issues is the repetition of the
work and this is one of the main problem in this industry, the management always provide
the employees with same kind of work again and again to the employees an due to this they
get bored and the ultimately leave their job, apart from this through various studies it is seen
that employees often feel that their talent is not looked into properly and hence they do not
get challenging work to do or use any kind of innovation in there day to day
activitiesInnovation is actually significant to fashion industry and not being innovative as per
the time means there are great chances of being obsolete in the near future. Hence, it has been

identified that the Australian fashion companies mostly adopts the design focused, product
focused or a hybrid strategy to be innovative at a strategic level(Santarelli, 2016)and thus this
also leads to boredom of job is one of the main and biggest reason because of which the
employees leave their job and the organization faces issues in attracting the employees
(Sutton-Brady, Kamvounias, & Taylor, 2015).
It has been found that social expectations and other demands from the society play crucial
role in knowing the legality of incapacity employ practices. It has also been renowned that
technological setting is straight connected with the legality – this means belongings like
competence anxieties (Moore, 2015).
Moving ahead the next reason is high level of competition in the industry, this also
makes it difficult for the organization to attract or retain the employees on a regular basis.
The retail sector globally earns a good share in the market, but it also need to maintain the
competitiveness by recruiting good and qualifies employees and retain them as well. The
companies present on the industry also lacks in attracting the employee and due to this most
of the work becomes standardized and employees always get bored with the activities.
According to various researched it is seen that the employees are incompetent in
managing the professionalism in their work when it comes to retention. It is also seen that the
employees are also assets of the organization and the employees who are experienced and
biggest assets of the organization for the companies as they also help in solving the issues and
manage, train and attract the employees as well. So in case the organization is not able to
develop their career they do not stay in the similar organization. It is also notices that the lack
of effective employees and it can affect the retention and attraction of the employees in the
company (Mortimer & Ingersoll, 2015).

Apart from this, it is also significant for the management to understand the
importance of the description of people and the job in the organization, as if the
humanresource management of the organization one does not understand the requirements of
the job, and then there is high chance that the employees will not stay in the organization.
Hence it is significant to comprehend the type of member of staff needed by the
organization and it is one of the main factors that impact the activities of the organization in
retaining and attracting the employees in a workplace. Another thing that should be noticed is
that current environment and many other organizations are there in various diverse industries
which provide work to people at less salary and due to this the employees shift to other and
more famous industries. As is mentioned above that the companies which are present in the
industry of retail it make the employees perform that similar task again and again and it
makes them very bored and because of this they shift to other industries (Balaji, & Roy,
2017).
The study indicated that the group will have high output if they emphasis on service
excellence and promise to happiness of the employees.
It was not well reinforced to say that the insight of facility weather is positively
affecting the association among worker attributions, job gratification and promise to the
organization (Kralj, 2014).
Apart from this the other challenge faced by the management in the industry of retail
in the cost of recruitment. As the organization are unable to retain the employees within an
organization because of which they regularly develop the need to attract the employees in the
environment and as a result HR manager lead to the process of recruitment for the
organization. the continues training and recruitment procedure makes it very difficult for the
organization to invest in various other significant activities due to which the efficiency of the
Document Page
RETAINING AND ATTRACTING EMPLOYEES 5
organization also reduces and as a result of which the overall image of the company is also
affected on a global level
Another challenge which is faced by the organization in the environment of the
business is contract staffing. Various numbers of times the HR manager of the organization
faced difficulty in attracting the human resource who would meet the needs and wants of the
organization and because of this they attain contracts with the employees which helps them
in getting an effective human resource to work in the organization. apart from this the
entrance of the third party in the organization also impacts the activities in the internal
organization due to which the employees do not get attached towards the management of the
organization and also leave the job and this is due to the ineffectiveness of the HR manager to
analyse the kind of employee the company should attract and affects the activities in the
international market.
Moving ahead the companies become very inefficient in retaining and attracting the customer
because of the problems of compensation. It is seen that the compensation is the king of both
retention and attracting, if the employees are not paid in a proper manner then they prefer to
leave the job no perks or potentials will make them stay in the organization. One of the best
ways to keep the employee motivated is by the way to providing them the benefits of
compensation (Grimmer, Dip, & Bus, 2015)
When talking about the shifting of the employees from one job to other, one of the
main reason because of which the employees gets attracted towards the other industries and
they also shift because of the less pay and positive environment. These are some of the most
important factors that help the organization to attract and retain the employees. Ineffective
pay and the lack of positive environment poorly hamper the activities of the HR manager in
the organization.

Some of the other issues include the lack of training which one of the main
demotivating factors is that makes the employees change their job soon after they get
employed in the organization. Training is something which helps the employees to involve
into various activities of the company, understand it and build motivation as well, thus, it
should also be noted that lack of training also leads to major challenges for the company and
it also makes the company face various challenges in the competitive
environment(Edvardsson, Fetherstonhaugh, McAuliffe, Nay, &Chenco, 2011).
The retention and the attraction activities go together for the organization and it is not
possible that the company would focus on only one and hence the organization should only
have its focus on the fulfilling the needs and wants of the employees and should increase their
level of interest in the organization. Various changes in the management of the retail industry
also impact the employees and because of this they leave the job.
It is also discussed above that there is an absence of training and development
procedure in the organization and due to this changes in the managerial procedure negative
impacts the growth of the company in the market. It is also significant for the organizations to
implement effective management of change program to help the employees and also to
understand the activities of the company. It has been seen through various studies that the
reward and recognition are the key factors that also play a crucial role in the attracting as well
as retaining of the employees. In the industry of retail the companies usually make use of the
team based structure for the organization. The contribution of the employees alone is never
rewarded in the organization which results to the underperformance or over performance of
the of the team affects them but the work done by them is never counted in the organization.
This is too one of the mainmotive due to which staffs leave their jobs in the retail
industry. These staffsarrive in other subdivisions where they obtain rewards from the

connotation on the basis of their individualpresentation and not the attainments of the team
(de Zubielqui, Fryges, & Jones, 2019).
It is also noted that the competition is the industry apart from impacting the profits of
the companies also impacts the environment. The company which provides better benefits to
the employees are able to attract the employees at a maximum level. Also the organization,
also pace issue in attracting the employees which impact the globalization (Marchington,
2015).
Apart from this in the world today the companies do not focus on competing with
each other in domestic environment as they compete with other organization or same as well
as a different industry. The employees have also started shifting to other parts of the world
because of which very few employees are left with the domestic industry and hence it should
be kept in mind that with the effect of globalization, the quality of the employees are
skimmed at an international level only (Markey, McIvor, & Wright, 2016).
Further it is also seen that millennial people present in the society do not prefer
entering the sector and thus this sector also fails to attract the young and the fresh talent
available in the market. The employees or the workers present in the society are constantly
asked to perform the same task again and again and because of this they also loose the
effectiveness as the employees like working on new tasks on regular bases. The sector of
retail is not able to provide such activities and hence they fail in attracting as well as retaining
the right workers in the organization
In the current and the new environment, no employee wants to perform regular work
because of which the company is able to attract less efficient people in the organization. The
expectation is another aspect that attracts and retain the staff in the company. Suppose if an
employees in hired at a position of the supervisor in the company and he is asked to increase
Document Page
RETAINING AND ATTRACTING EMPLOYEES 8
the efficiency of the organization. the initial work that supervision will perform will be to
implement the innovation in the regular practices of the employees but the top level
management halt the supervisor from introducing innovations in the organization instead they
should ask him to supervise the regular actions to make sure no mistake is implemented by
the employees. This is a factor which will demotivate the supervisor as the company will not
be able to show to his expectations, hence it is important for the company to not give any
wrong commitments to the people to attract them and possess various diverse activities in the
environment
So, if the organization initiates the effective communication and friendliness with the
employees then they will automatically stay for a longer time in the organization, moreover
incentives are also a thing which plays a main role in in retaining and attracting the
employees in market. The market present in the sector of retail should initiate the scheme of
incentive over above the basic pays of the employees in order to motivate them to work
better can earn better as well the Incentives and compensation are the main motivating
feature; any worker that changes the job is mostly due to less compensation
welfaresAdditional, invention is additional way over which the association can entice and
retain the staffs in the happenings of the association (Moore, McDonald, & Bartlett, 2017).
As debatedoverhead that boredom is also one influence due to which workers switch
their occupations. So, if the association makes use of ground-breaking practices in their daily
routine doings then they can effortlessly make the quality millennial staffs stay with them and
entice other as well. Finally, the associationmust also deviceexercise and growthperforms to
assist thestaffsregulate to the society. This feature also donate to serving the staffs to use
advancedperforms as well .With the assistance of actual training, the staffs will get to know
around the association and the effort that they need to do. Resultant in which, they will not
face trouble in applying it effectively.

Conclusion
Thus, in the attention of overhead mentioned proceedings, it must be renowned that
the workers are the most significantstrength and the administrations should not ever face
trouble in handling them. The retail manufacturing is in unvaryingrequest of the employee, so
the organizations present currently in industry should implement various important and
effective events to entice and recall the staffs. This essay has very appropriately deliberated
about the issues and the challenges faced by the companies present in retail industry in
enticing and retentive the skilled staffs in the association. Lack of invention, training and
incentive arrangements makes the employees change their jobs. So, the paper also clarifies
some of the proposals through which the businesses can recover their doings and overcome
encounters. Hiring and retaining of employees is ansignificantfeature in the development of
the association which must never be ignored by businessescontemporary in retail industry.
