INTRODUCTION
Organizational behaviour is the study of group and individual's behaviour within
organization. This analysis of individual's behaviour is used for developing effective
organizational strategy such that employee's performance can be increased by implementing
several changes which will increase their working capabilities by motivating them. Richer
Sounds is multinational organization which provide Hi-fi home entertainment devices to its
customers. Analysis of internal environment of Richer Sounds is done in this report by
evaluating impact of culture, politics and power on employee performance. Evaluation of
implementation of various theories of motivation in regards to employee performance is also
being done in the report. Differentiation between ineffective teams and effective team is also
done in the report. With that analysis of various organizational behaviour is done in this report.
LO 1
Impact of Culture, Power and Politics on individuals and teams in organisation
CULTURE
Being the home entertainment retailer in London, England, the impact which the culture
in Richer Sounds has on its individuals and teams and the overall performance can be analysed
efficiently by the Handy Model of Organisational culture who divided the culture into four
different kinds that are Power, Role, Person and Task.
Power culture
If the Richer Sounds have power culture in its organisation, then the power is exercised by only
few individuals such as main employees of all departments who basically takes parts in decision
making regarding the products like Hi-Fi, TV and home cinema whose influence is greater than
others in every aspect. Here, the decision taking is so quick because the employees are analysed
on the results they achieve rather than identifying the process of their tasks (Connell, 2018). This
is the strongest culture which can become toxic sometimes. This sometimes demotivates the
employees and the teams as it can cause biasses. This can also hinder some of the sustainable
activities of the company like purchasing recycled stationary sundries, reusable packaging of for
collecting and delivering the TV repairs which helps in reducing waste and so on.
Role culture
3
Document Page
This is based on rules and the power is decided by the position of the employee. Decision
making is very low as Richer Sounds is less likely to take risks. so, it becomes bureaucratic.
These de motivates the employees as they are not judged on the basis of their hard work but in
terms of position and designation. This impacts negatively to the company as the person who
does the work of encouraging the customers and the colleagues to recycle the materials by
promoting the website might not secure the great position in the company but the tasks
performed are proving to be in favour of the company.
Task culture
This is used when the teams are made within Richer Sounds for addressing targetted
projects or problems. The team dynamic decides the effectiveness and ineffectiveness in the task
culture. If the teams have right mix of skills, leadership and personalities, teams can be
productive and creative (Xiao and Cooke, 2019).
Person Culture
This focusses on the individual employee as they consider themselves as superior to
others and Richer Sounds. Here, the organisation is just a group of employees where they work
to achieve the organisational goals. This is one of the wide utilized work culture of Handy's work
culture because of its simplicity.
POWER
The impact of power in Richer Sounds can be analysed by using the French and Raven’s
power model of five bases which are as follows:
Legitimate: Under this, the individual has the formal right for making decisions, and expects
others to be obedient and compliant to those demands. For example, in Richer sounds, the person
who is responsible for repairing TVs must give equal opportunities as the person who
manufactures and delivers the TV.
Reward: Under this, the person has the ability to compensate the another in terms of
compliance. This motivates the employees which increases the overall productivity.
Expert: This base of power is based on the levels of high skills and knowledge. The most
powerful person in this case is the person with knowledge and skills (Nguyen, Bensemann and

Kelly, 2018). In Richer sounds, all the employees are skilled in their own field which gives every
employee sufficient power.
Referent: Here, the main role is played by the perceived attractiveness, right to others respect
and worthiness. Under this, the skills and talent of the person are not responsible for being
powerful but the worthiness among the team members is identified. This sometimes lead to
wrong results because of less skills and knowledge.
Coercive: This is the bad effect of power in which the person can punish others for not
complying with that person. Due to this, sometimes the employees become demotivated and the
teams become unproductive (Mohammed and Tejay, 2017).
Richer Sounds must follow the reward and referent in order to motivate the employees so that the
teams can become productive with right decisions and helps in enhancing the performance of the
organization and also to achieve goals like reducing waste to landfill, minimum consumption of
energy etc.
LO 2
P2 Content and process theory of motivation
Content theories of motivation-
Content theory of motivation focuses on the psychological needs of employees through
which they are motivated for improving their performance. This theory is implemented by
organizations like richer sounds for motivating employees which will lead to improved working
capabilities (Meng and Berger, 2019). Maslow's needs hierarchy is one of the widely used
theory, following is the Maslow's hierarchy of needs.
Maslow's hierarchy of needs
This theory is one of the widely used theory which concentrates on the changing needs of
employees and due to this changing needs it is shaped in an pyramid shape which goes from
bottom to top.
Basic needs is the first in the line in which basic needs of employee's are considered in
which richer sounds has to develop its organizational structure such that it is able to fulfil the
basic requirements of employees like food, water and shelter. By improvising organizational
structure as per employee requirement, richer sound can increase employee's concentration
towards achieving their target which will lead to improvement in their performance. However
5
Document Page
this will increase organizational expenditures, making a negative impact on company's economic
growth. Through this Richer sounds can be make sure that it is able to achieve its organizational
growth and also is achieving good economic condition.
Safety needs arises for employee's when they are able to fulfil the basic requirements, in
this type of requirement employee seek to get safety and security. Through which they can
remove the uncertainties from their lives resulting a secured future, thus sense of job security
arises with high concern regarding strong financial capital (Wang and Guan, 2018). Therefore
richer sounds must provide employees a sense of job security by which they can concentrate
their efforts on improving their performance because they are having a sense of secured future
with Richer sounds.
Belongingness is the need in which employee seek to develop a friendly relationship such
that it is able to share its advantages which it has earned from its hard work, and thus high social
activities can also be analysed in this step due to which this is also called as social needs
(Matthews, 2020). Therefore Richer sounds can improvise its structure such that it can develop
efficient organizational team through which it can achieve its organizational goals.
Self esteem needs arises when employee is able to develop a friendly work environment
around itself due to which employee seek to improve its position within group, for which it tends
to work hard by which it can achieve a better position. For achieving this employee tend to learn
new skill and improve its working such that it is able to break its limits, through this it develops a
leadership quality for leading a group which will improve the working capabilities of Richer
sounds.
Self actualization is the final step in which employee tend to achieve its full capabilities
to which it can extent it self such that it is able to leave a legacy behind. High level of self
confidence and mastery at skills is seen in this step due to which employee learn new skills and
put more efforts in achieving its full capabilities. Thus richer sounds must improvise its working
such that it provide a full opportunity to employees through which their working can be
increased which will lead to increased working capabilities of organization.
Process theory of motivation-
6
Document Page
Process theory of motivation focuses on the reasons which makes an employee work,
these factors are used by organizations such as richer sounds for developing effective
organizational strategy. Through will implement organizational changes which allow
organization to increase its work efficiency. Skinner reinforcement is one of the widely used
process motivation theorem which as following.
Positive Reinforcement-
Employee's motivation towards achieving their goals is affected by the experience which
they achieve from a particular activity. Thus actions through which a positive experience is
achieved are more likely to be repeated, due to this if employee get positive feedback from a
particular action then there are high changes that employee's will put more efforts such that they
get same experience again (Assarroudi and et.al, 2018). Thus richer sounds must give positive
feed backs to its employee's by which employee's will get motivated from surpassing their limits
resulting improvement in Richer sound's performance.
Negative Reinforcement-
Unlike positive reinforcement in this part, if employee's get negative feedback from a
action then there are more chances that they will not repeat that same bad activity. Thus if
employees at richer sounds are not able to perform well in their respective fields then company
can strictly discuss the issue or take special advantages from them, through which they can be
motivated for maintaining a same high level of performance (Cecchini, J.A. and et.al, 2020).
LO 3
