INTRODUCTION
Different business functions are playing different role to the business in effective manner
by having effective coordination and interrelation with each other(Albertoni, Elia and Piscitello,
2017). Present study is based on the organisation Rio Tinto that is a metals and mining industry
having its headquarter in London, UK. Report will include interrelation of different business
functions of Rio Tinto among each other. Report will also include the respective academic skills
and techniques that are necessary for an undergraduate student.
Business functions and its interrelationship with each other
Different business functions with respect to Rio Tinto and there interrelation is as
following:-
Finance and marketing:- The two business functions, Finance and marketing
department of Rio Tinto is having an effective interrelation that helps the business to
achieve its goals. The role of Finance is to allocate business resources and provide funds
to other business functions. On other side of business, marketing helps the business in
promoting its offerings. Both the departments are interrelated to each other as for
promoting the products and services, marketing department depends on finance for
getting funds so that they can run there promotional activities(Zhou And et.al., 2015).
Marketing and operations:- The role of marketing in Rio Tinto is to promote the
offerings, but these offerings are basically prepared by operation department. Both the
departments have interrelation with each other as operation department depends on
marketing to make the offerings effective in eyes of the customers and also for doing
proper research so that operation department can bring the respective change in its
activities and offerings.
Operations and Finance:- Operation department works to prepare the effective offering
and do different business operations in Rio Tinto. On the other hand finance department
allocate respective resources and funds so that business operations can run effectively.
There are different operations for which finance department of Rio Tinto depends on
Operations in order to run business smoothly. On the other side to run these business
operations, funds are required and finance department allocate respective resources for
operation department of Rio Tinto. In this way all the respective departments are having
an effective interrelation with each other(Cantù and et.al., 2015).

Necessary academic skills and techniques for successful undergraduate students
The necessary skills and techniques for being a successful undergraduate student are as
following:-
Interpersonal skills:- The interpersonal skills of a student helps them to have effective
listening and problem-solving that also helps them to grow academically and also
professionally.
Writing and reading skills:- Another most important skill for undergraduate students is
to have effective reading and writing skills. Reading skills helps the individual to think
critically and on the other hand writing skills builds knowledge of an individual with
respect to spellings, grammar and also punctuations(Drew, 2018).
Computer skills:- There are some computer skills that are essential for an undergraduate
like MS office, SQL etc. that helps the individual to work effectively on systems for
various tasks assigned to them.
Time management skills:- In order to complete the respective tasks on time and with
effectiveness, Students are required to have time management skills that can helps them
to be on right track for their academic as well as career goals.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it is been concluded that the business functions in Rio Tinto is
having an effective interrelationship with each other. They work together for achieving business
growth and to bring organisational profitability. Report also concluded that there are different
skills and techniques that undergraduate student have to adopt for working effectively with
respect to assigned tasks and achieving their academic goals.
