This minor thesis, submitted to Victoria University, Sydney, Australia in June 2019, by Ujjwal Adhikari, addresses the critical importance of risk management in cloud computing, particularly during application and data migration. The study proposes a risk management framework to assist clients in making informed cloud migration choices and mitigating associated risks. The framework enables the identification and semi-quantitative analysis of risks, considering relocation objectives. The thesis discusses the advantages and disadvantages of cloud computing, service and deployment models, and reviews previous works, including risk management frameworks, cloud migration risks, and security issues. It also includes analysis and comparison, scenarios, recommendations, and a conclusion, utilizing a collaborative application migration case study to demonstrate the framework's practicality. The research emphasizes that cloud risks depend on the migration scenario and organizational context, and that both cloud providers and users share responsibility for risk mitigation.
