4. 3. “Assess and Manage Risk to own and others safety when dealing with Challenging
behavior”
It is important to manage risk and also the safety of others at the time of dealing with the
challenging behavior as it helps to consider the procedures and policies that are given in the
school related with the behavior, health and safety and restraints policy. It also helps to enable to
evaluate and manage risk for ourselves and also for others. To manage the risk is considered as a
practical way to reduce the difficult and dangerous behavior and it helps to set against the
background of the procedures and policies in the school (Geller, 2016). It also takes into
consideration general risk assessment of the environment and also of the individual risk
assessment that focuses on the needs of an individual. The risk strategies take into consideration
the use of physical intervention in which it has been seen that it helps offer proper training to the
learners who are conducting their activities in the high risk environment and also it control the
movement of a children when it is required so that they can be protected from the harm. This can
also help the children in doing their studies in a proper manner and can also give direction so that
the activities can be completed in a right direction. The risk can be related with the involvement
of the vulnerable parts like neck and eyes or it can create hypertension for the children (Elder,
2018).
It can be analyzed that there are various restraint techniques which are showcase an
unacceptable risk when focus is given on the children and young people. The technique focuses
on the seated double embrace in which there are two individuals of the staff who force an
individual into a sitting position and to learn something with pressure. Next is the double basket
hold in which the individuals are involved who are holding the hands or the arms above the chest
and the last one is related with the nose distraction in which it has been seen that a sharp upward
force is given on the nose (Glendon, Clarke and McKenna, 2016).
It is important that some individuals with special educational needs in special schools
should be restrained on the continuous basis. Also in this case, good practices are also showcased
that will be first recorded and then conveyed to the parents. If a child is showing challenging
behavior then it consists of verbal or physical abuse or behavior which is not acceptable.
Therefore, in this case it is important for the teachers to focus on managing and reducing the
challenging behavior of the children. It is important to focus on own safety and also safety of

others so that every child can be secured in an easy manner and also with proper strategies that
help to manage the challenging the behavior of the child. The strategies related to rewards and
offer choices should be considered so that positive behavior can be created within the children
(Crone, Hawken, and Horner, 2015).
