INTRODUCTION
Project management is the procedure of applying knowledge and skills to complete any
project. In this report two project have been discussed such as NHS and construction. This report
shows risk management, swot, pestle for both the projects. Qualitative and quantitative
techniques have been explained here.
8.1 Methods used for risk management in project
Risk management in project is the procedure of recognizing, analysing and
acknowledging risk which occurs in the life span of the project.
There are various methods of analysing such risks
Risk register
It is a tool of project management which helps to control the risk in any project. The main
work of risk register is to recognise, identifies and describes the risk after that defines the impact
of such risk in the project, provide planes to overcome those risks. Moreover, risk register
assists the project manager to highlight the risk and assign to someone who can resolve the
occurred risk. In short, risk register collects all the data related to risk, which the project manager
and team is expecting then after it provides a method to sort out them so that the risk doesn’t
pop-up in the project.
Probability and impact matrix
It is the another tool to identify the risk. These methods concentrate on those risk which
are important so the project manager don't need to waste time to follow small risk and find
solution to eliminate such risk from the project. This technique basically provides ranking to
each and every risk and as per the rank, project manager solves the risk. This matrix comes in
the form of box in which the probability of occurrence of the risk range from top to bottom and
box get coloured. Green colour shows less risk, while yellow shows medium risk and red shows
high risk.

that they can provide better services to public.

Due to 2008 crisis, NHS is facing lack of resources and bound to reduce the salary of the
staff. Even not able to contribute in the economy of UK.

provide quality treatment to society.

NHS is facing lack of technology as compared to private hospitals of UK. They are
having all the tools, machines and equipment which needs to provide quality services.

against them.

NHS is evolving toxic waste in the environment and affecting the climate as well.
Brainstorming
This method assesses the risk which can impact the NHS project. The risk occurred in
this project is lack of technology and people are not satisfy with the healthcare services provided
by NHS.

This factor is a big issue for this construction project as they don't have proper

actions that is also a reason for the delay of this project.

The biggest opportunity for NHS project is that people have trust in their health care
services so they can make more marketing strategies to promote their services. On the other hand

the opportunity for construction project is immense demand for proper roads and the competition
in constructing roads is less.
Threat for NHS project is increased employee turnover as NHS is not able to provide
salary to its employees. And for construction project unavailability of technology.
Ranking matrix
It is a tool which provides rank to the activities of the project according to this
importance. For example – for constructing a road labours are important and they will be the
priority of the project manager because in the absence labours work will not complete on time.
So the labours will get higher ranks as compared to others.
In NHS project the staff and professionals will get higher rank because in the absence of proper
staff who will look after the patients.
Stakeholder mapping and impact grid
This is the procedure of identifying those individuals and stakeholders who shows their
interest in the project. Stakeholders can be government, public, competitors and employees.
In NHS have not shown so much interest in the project as the people are not happy with the
services and employees don't get their salaries on time. NHS is not able to contribute in the
economy of the country as well.
Despite NHS, stakeholder has shown interest in the construction project as it is profitable
for the government and economy of the country, people are also happy with this project as they
are getting proper road facility.
Influence – impact grid
This method shows, how active the stakeholders and how they influence the decision
making and try to bring change in the project. In case of NHS, stakeholders are not so interested
so they don't influence this project but in construction project government has shown their
interest and make changes in the decision making.
8.2 (4) Assessing stakeholders' attitude to risk
Stakeholders play a vital role in project success and failure. It is important to know their interest
and it can be known by developing risks questionnaire. On the basis of interpretation on answers
given by stakeholder towards risks, actions can be taken accordingly. Different stakeholders play
different roles and it is being identified from stakeholder analysis or matrix tool. In regard to

construction industry stakeholders shown their interest towards risk and progress of project that
is:
Employees: Majority of employees said in regards to risk mitigation that they will
cooperate to contractor and sub-contractors in reducing risks. By suggesting different ways and
effective tools, technical errors can be reduced to the great extent. They said that rather
avoiding, they will accept will try to find the best solution (Xia and et.al., 2017).
Government: Government is the main stakeholder and it is stated that by implementing
policies and providing fund, risks will be managed. Funding and financial stability can solve any
kind of problems so, by taking help of the government, technical errors related risk can be
reduced by employing qualified technical solution provider.
Suppliers: Suppliers shown less interest in solving problems and some suppliers also did
not respond in an effective manner.
For another NHS public project for making people aware about infectious or virus disease,
responses have been known of stakeholder regarding risks. By knowing responses of
stakeholders their interest can be known towards risk mitigation. Some risks that have been
found were: Climate change and changes in political condition.
Local people: From survey and answers given by people it is known that they are health
conscious but still are not aware regarding protective measures of virus. They do not take care of
themselves and their country. They showed lack of interest in solving problems and supporting.
CONCLUSION
It is concluded that how project manager can use swot, pestle and brainstorming to
reduce the risk from the project. How stakeholder inference decision making inn the project.
Importance of Monte Carlo, decision trees for assessing risk have been elaborated in this project.
