Summary
The various business enterprises because of the complexity as well as the dynamicity
of the contemporary business world face diverse kinds of risks which affect the prospects of
their business in an adverse manner. Bottani, Monica and Vignali (2009) are of the viewpoint
that these risks not only cause loss of valuable property and other kinds of harm to the
organization but more importantly they end up taking the lives of the employees of the
organizations as well. In addition to these, it is seen that the workers are also exposed to
various kinds of health hazards which can become disastrous for them in the longer run
(Haimes 2015). Thus, there is a need for not only the identification, assessment but at the
same time the effective mitigation of these risks.

There are various kinds of risk control measures that are available to the organizations
like Hazards Identification Risk Assessment and Control, Job Safety Analysis, Safety Case
and others (Haimes 2015). However, Loosemore et al. (2012) are of the viewpoint that in the
recent times the method of safety case has emerged as one of the most importantly ones
which is being extensively used by the diverse contemporary organizations. As opined by
Hopkins (2005), safety case can be seen as a document which not only identifies the risks or
the hazards faced by an organization but also states various measures through which the
adverse effects of these risks or the hazards can be mitigated in an effective manner. There
are various ways through which the adverse effects of these risks or the hazards can be
mitigated like the practice of the WHS guidelines of the United Nations and also the national
government, inculcation of a safety culture within the workplace of the organization, training
as well as educating the employees and others (Hopkins 2005).
The organization for the effective implementation of the WHS guidelines are required
to not only implement the guidelines related to the safety of the employees but also the ones
related to the safety of the organization as well (Loosemore et al. 2012). In addition to this,
for the integration of a safety culture within the organization not only the HRM team but also
the managers and the employees would have to play a significant role in the process (Bottani,
Monica and Vignali 2009). Finally, the organization can also provide trainings to the
employees regarding the manner in which they can handle the equipment and machines in a
safe manner while ensuring not only their personal but also the safety of their colleagues and
the organization (Haimes 2015).
The effective practice of the system of safety case provides wide ranging benefits to
the organizations. For example, the practice of this system helps the organizations to reduce
the number of workplace accidents as well as hazards in a substantial manner (Bottani,
Monica and Vignali 2009). Furthermore, the use of this practice not only ensures the safety of

the employees but at the same time the different assets of the organization as well
(Loosemore et al. 2012). Thus, it can be said that the effective use of the system of safety
case is no longer just an option for the organizations but also an essential requirement as well.
