1REFLECTIVE JOURNAL ON GROUP REPRESENTATION
At this present time when I am done with my assigned presentation allocated
to me, this is the perfect time to reflect the experiences, mainly the learning and the
challenges, I have received from the group presentation. Examining and exploring
those faced circumstances would be the perfect way to face the upcoming
challenges in the next stage. My group presentation included an experience of
working in a small team. The group presentation allocated to my team was on the
topic mentioned as SWOT Analysis of Ryanair. Sooner after the allocation of the
topic of the presentation the class was distributed into chunks of small team
member. Further, the process of presentation had started with the distribution of
students into a team. The teacher than allocated each team with a group of 4 people
altogether working for the same presentation. The other 3 people were also the
students from my class. This made me both excited on one hand and nervous on the
other as this was my first group presentation to be done. After the allocation of the
team, the team members were provided with different role they had to work in. Every
particular individual of the team had different sets of their work to be completed
keeping in mind the value of a team and team work. According to Tuckman (1965),
team co-ordination and development is a crucial factor for the efficiency of the team
work and avoid biasness in the team. Keeping this in mind, the team had to undergo
a development process which included a five-stage study to analyse and develop the
sequence in small team of people.
I examined that the process of preparing this group presentation was
challenging. The crucial reason behind this being was to work with a group of
students. Every individual persists different behavioural aspects and nature of their
work process also differs from each other. Regardless of how hardly challenging I
thought the experience to work with this presentation would be, I also received a
positive value as working on this presentation proved to give a rewarding and fruitful
experience. It created a sense of responsibility in my mind as the role I got allotted
was of a Co-ordinator of the team (Belbin 2015).
Being the Co-ordinator of the team, I had decided to follow some particular
strategies in order to complete the project with effectiveness and efficiency. The
strategies included the process of preparing the team to work as per the allocation of
their work, visualizing the requirements of the presentation, determining the
objectives, building the presentation and practicing for the same to deliver the

presentation in public speaking. We have worked on a PowerPoint presentation
which included the following sections: Unpredictably raises of jet fuel price and
exchange rate, Increased risk of pilots and cabin crew strikes and demands,
Competition from other low-cost regional carriers.
One of the team workers was lazy in nature and did not make an effort to
complete the presentation within speculated time, which hampered the performance
of other team workers too. The idea of working with a whole new bunch of people
seemed a bit bothersome to me and somewhere I had none of my friends working
with me in my team and I was feeling lonely and uncomfortable in working with the
team for few initial days. However, Being the Co-ordinator of the team, I had certain
responsibilities which I could not overlook because of these petty issues and I had to
be responsible enough to explain and encourage the team member to work both for
the team and individual. However, the presentation proved to be a fruitful one
because it accomplished me as an individual. I used to be an introvert kind of
individual and was scared of interacting with people. This particular presentation
period made me open to my thoughts and responsibilities and improved my
interaction with people. I gradually turned to be more of an extrovert than an
introvert. It helped me develop with my personality and nurture my leadership
qualities. It helped me learn the art of fostering a team as a whole.
Further, after completing this particular presentation I realized some important
aspects and would keep that in mark for all my future reference. Working in a team is
completely different than working as an individual (Costa, Passos and Bakker 2014).
Working as an individual requires only own concentration and effort whereas,
working in a team requires to make an effort of mutual decisions and work. If I ever
get an opportunity to work again in a team in any stage of my life I will try and make
few changes in how the group would perform. I would ensure that the members
included in my team possess smooth and effective communication skills among
them. As one or more person works together when it comes to working in a team
and I would make sure that all the team members work efficiently and the burden of
completing the assignment does not fall on one person. This will also help in
increasing co-operation among the team members and more ideas can be
developed. I would also like to initiate group discussions and meetings that would
