1ROLE CONCEPT IN HEALTH CARE
In today’s world everyone has their opinions and often there are differences between
two people based on any situation or preference. A recent inspirational video by Elizabeth
Lesser has evoked a feeling of acceptance towards others on me. The video showed
inspirational tools on how one can erase their differences with simple activities like having
lunch together with the ‘other’ as mentioned in the video.
The video “Take the other to the lunch” is an inspirational video where Elizabeth
Lesser throws light on the topic of difference between two individuals. There is always a
difference between individuals regarding choice or a particular situation. Elizabeth Lesser
takes a dig on modern politics and begins by exploring a simple idea of taking out someone
for lunch whose opinion has never been same with the other. I decided to choose the topic as
it established the fact that it is normal to have differences among the individuals but with
little effort and a small dialogue can help resolve the tension (Beitler, Scherer & Zapf, 2018).
I really appreciated the idea that was showcased and began by real dialogue. In today’s times
conflict of interest is a key issue and this video showed how it can be resolved by simple
dialogue. Through this video, we get an understanding on conflict management and
importance of communication in every aspect of life. A conflict may weaken the relationship
between two people and that may result in tensed environment. This kind of conflict results in
failed relationship and can affect performance in work force. It is necessary to adopt a
positive attitude to address such conflicts and taking the other for a lunch is an efficient way
for a proper verbal communication.
The most important points emphasized in the video by Elizabeth Lesser by is how to
resolve the communication gap between two conflicts related to any subject and how the
modern politics is threatened. The idea of having lunch with someone who does not agree and
interact with them by asking three questions. This learning corresponds to the main learnings
of resolving issues and incidence of conflicts (Currie et al, 2017). Communication in the

health care setting is very important for patient care and this video has helped me to
understand how we can communicate with simple steps like going out for a lunch. We often
find difficult to talk with the one we are having conflict or difference in understanding but as
per Elizabeth Lesser we can have a conversation without talking of our opinions and have
important insights as conversation. This is an important learning, which shows how we can
interact without talking about our disagreement. Elizabeth Lessor’s in depth discussion has
found relevance in ways of resolving disagreement between two people. Different culture and
ideas in the world has created a division among us and we should make humble steps to
minimise this disagreement by approach from both the side. In the context of health care it
can be said that two conflicting personalities in the form of health care specialist is hazardous
for its function and safety. Therefore, we must note the concept of Elizabeth’s lecture to form
the basis of such disagreement.
On personal level, I found the video very enriching and it reflected my personal ideas.
The video mentioned about warriors and mystic whose mention has very low relevance but
this mentions helped me to understand the real value of communication. Just like everyone I
have also experienced personal quarrel or differences between people but never thought of
resolving such issues as said by Elizabeth Lesser. The concept of having lunch with the other
person as referred by her has indirect consequences, which reflects on our wellbeing (Folger
Poole & Stutman, 2017). I agree with the message of the video, which gives more strength on
believing in each other’s sincerity and find solutions to our conversational queries. In
personal front I had an experience where there was an issue regarding a health care plan with
my colleague and due to the difference we never interacted again and work procedure
suffered. I support the video’s message which influences us to be conversational and manage
our differences by proper dialogue with the “other” as mentioned by Elizabeth. Differences

may be in the form of cultural or regarding any work place dispute which is common in
human but with innovative ideas like lunch, we can curb such differences.
The message in the video has influenced me regarding the issue of communication
and taught me an important tool to happiness and healthy dialogue with someone I have
differences. This video is a revelation for various including me who have never thought of
such ideas on communication and conflict. I always believed that there is a very little hope in
resolving difference between two conflicts. There may be different prospective of thoughts of
two people and may be right in their own thoughts. After watching the video I learnt that in
spite of two different prospective in thinking one can mingle over other aspects like
experience faced by one on different situation (Insam et al, 2017). After viewing the video it
challenged my conventional thoughts and the idea of reducing the gap in communication with
a conflict has made me realise the basic idea behind humanity. This video has made me belief
that it takes two person to get into a conflict and takes simple steps from both the sides to
resolve it. May be we may have conflict regarding a particular topic but we still can interact
on different things. This issue has taught me that resolving an issue is not a difficult task and
can be attained by simple communication.
The message of this video is powerful which challenge the common notions of human
thinking. I have never witnessed a powerful message like this as discussed by Elizabeth
Lesser which focuses on the importance of dialogue between two contrasting personalities.
There was a constant mention of great personalities like Nelson Mandela and Mother Teresa
and their thoughts. This has helped to establish the fact that they also believed in similar
message of basic humanity (Malhotra et al, 2018). The message is also challenging for many
as such topic has never been exploited like this. It is a common belief that conflict between
two thoughts is common and no specific reason can be ruled out to resolve them. The lecture
gives strength on how a person with different notion can also have interaction regarding other

things and can bridge the communication gap. The concept of Ubuntu as coined by Nelson
Mandela reassures that conflicts are necessary for both the parties in order to have themselves
in the correct side. There is a strong indication given in the video about the good
consequences they have after this kind of dialogue. The video uses an innovative way to
influence its listener by initiating an incidence of lunch with the other person and has a
powerful impact on its listener regarding the topic on importance of communication.
Therefore it can be concluded from the message of the video that with value of
acceptance how we can make humble steps towards our differences regarding opinions. It is
not always mandatory to talk about the differences, we can talk about other things and not try
to be over friendly. The message of the video is inspiring and powerful which we can adapt in
our everyday life.
