INTRODUCTION
Information Technology have transformed the world into digitised society that facilitates
people in every aspects. Emergence of Information Technology have largely influenced working
ideas and living standards of people. This study will based on the Hilton hotel which is one of
the popular Hospitality industry and deals with the variety of goods and services. This hotel
mainly provides luxury room services to people and contains the delicious food availability in
restaurant. The study will also help in understanding the Role of IT for the sustainability and
development of the Hotel. It will also provide certain ethical and social considerations while
adopting the technology for the successful development of the Hilton hotel. This report has also
developed an understanding about different types of networking technologies involved in order
to interconnect large number of people (Networking technologies, 2016).
TASK 1
Role of Information Technology in the success and failure of Hilton Hotel
Today, Many businesses exists because of the value based services to customers. So In
hospitality industries, restaurant only offers the certain values in providing the goods and
services to consumers. As Hilton Hotel offers the services according to the requirement of people
and this makes them highly satisfied and this attitude ultimately brings them towards the loyal
customers of the hotel who tries to visit again to the same place. This hotel deals with the large
variety of products such as delicious food services, room staying facilities, and various different
luxuries. All the organisations are mainly aimed at achieving the maximum profitability by
increasing the total number of sales of the company (Avgerou and Walsham eds., 2017). In
order to improve the performance level of the Hilton Hotel, managers are continuously adopting
different working styles and innovation so that they always offers new services to the society and
constantly hold their interests. So organisations have to constantly meet the demands of the
consumer and thus this will be achieved by adopting the updated technology that can derive the
efficient and effective performance of the company.
Technology plays very important role in accessing the growth of the Hilton Hotel. So as
to match the increasing demands of the consumers such as new product, convenience facility,
increased status etc. organisations are adopting new Information technology in order to sustain in
this highly competitive world. Ethical and social issues may effects large number of people and
ultimately impacts on the sustainability if the employees with the firm. Ethical issues are

generally arise within the company as the conflicts between various stockholder groups such as
customers, suppliers, employees, competitors, government etc. can be considered as the example
of negative ethical values within company. Information technology and its application to Hilton
hotel in this competitive business world is now become one of the essential requirements
(Chuang and Huang, 2018). As the application of IT within the firm not only helps in improving
the efficiency of business but also helps in saving cost, time and money of business managers.
Role of Information technology on success of the business are as follows:
 Hotels need to figure out the channels to improve the sales of the company so this can be
possible by adopting the use of updated technology within the company.
 Business may also be improved by promoting the various social media options to
increase interactions of the customers with the company.
 Managing and maintaining the relationship with the loyal customers of the company can
also be possible by implementing various marketing strategies. So internet plays the
important role in analysing the needs and requirements of the people in order to satisfy
the consumers (Kasemsap, 2018).
 Another method through which Hilton Hotel can be benefited from extending such
relationship management can be possible by month publicity. This can be achieved by
inviting friends or customers to write reviews on Online blogs or Facebook page. It helps
in increasing the popularity if the Hotel.
 Information technology can also plays very important part in successful development of
the business as offering loyalty discounts and incentives in promoting the company.
Role of Information technology on failure of the business:
 Information technology may sometimes negatively impacts on the business as online
market has almost destroyed the offline business activities of the Hilton hotel.
 Establishment of the online networking sites have increased the interference of third party
by comparing the hotel prices of every hotels in the world (Denecke and et.al., 2015).
 It have also increased the online competitive market across the world which can inly be
sustain its position by continuously providing various innovative products to customers.

Business is often involved in lot of managerial activities and all of them are aimed at
accomplishing the main objective of the company. So in order to develop a strong work culture
in enterprise, managers generally develop their own code of ethics within Hilton hotel. A code of
Ethics can be considered as a collection of principles that are which are intended to promote
professionalism among the members of the staff (Griffin and et.al., 2018). So in order to provide
healthy work culture within the Hilton hotel, various ethical issues are involved such as Privacy,
accuracy, property and accessibility. The activities of individuals within the company can be
often termed as the ethical behaviour at workplace.
According to Wallace, “A credo generally describes the highest value to which the
company aspires to operate”. A code of ethics mainly specifies the ethical rules of operations. So
business ethics are related with the work culture or working environment which derives the sense
of ethical behaviour at work place. Implication of the ethical values at workplace helps in
promoting healthy organisational culture and thus motivates the employees to deliver effective
productivity. Thus satisfied employees may turns ineffective operations into the effective one
and also contribute the Hilton hotel to deliver efficiency based work. Nowadays, use of updated
technology in the company may also promotes the positive working environment which
generates efficiency of output and results in maximising the profitability of the Organisation.
However social responsibility is also one of the important aspect that may influence
positive attitude among staff members. As the evolution of IT technology in the world have
brought a lot of flexibility in jobs which have basically contributed towards the improved quality
of leisure time of employees. Social responsibility in the business as it has provided various
opportunities for people. These social responsibilities includes the use of voice operated
typewriters in case of disable people. This has bought a major improvement in the lives of the
people (Information Technology and Moral Values, 2018).
In era of computer and communication technology where computers and internet have
made their ways to shape the technology based work from residence to offices (Han and et.al.,
2015). Information technology have provided more efficient tool to improve the ethical and
social work culture of the Hilton Hotel. So technological inventions have created both positive
and negative impacts on the society. Promoting communication within the company with the

helps of the various emails ad internal chatting tolls have increased the quality of communication
at workplace. This have incorporated various. Promoting the use of various technological
equipments to measure the quality of performance helps managers of the Hilton hotel in
identifying the individual efforts of the employees and thus it influences the positive work
culture at workplace (Ni and Van Wart, 2015). Promoting IT based ethics within the firm may
also helpful in delivering efficient productivity and thus derives the ethical and social behaviour
of the staff members in Hilton Hotel.

Different types of Networking Technology
Networking technology can be defined as the medium to connect large number of people
across the world. Networks can be considered as the backbone of the business as today
organisations are strongly promoting the networking technology which helps them in effective
communication within the premises such as emails, downloading documents etc. This can be
basically referred as the set of computers connected together in order to exchange data and
information (Keeble and Wilkinson, 2017). Networks may vary according to the size,
complexity, Complexity and geographical area. This is the medium which helps in connecting
one or more persons with each other and this can also enhances communication of the people
with each other and also enhances the way to exchange the resources, data and information with
each other. Connection may be established either via optic cable, satellite, wireless connection
etc. There are different types of technology which are spread across the entire geographical area.
Such networks are described below:
Personal Area Network (PAN): This interconnected network is aimed at interconnecting the
various computer devices within the limited range of distance, say a building. This is one of the
most popularly used networking technology which can be managed and operated from a single
device. This is commonly found in small offices, residence or typically within a common
building.
Local Area Network (LAN): These are the most frequently used networks after PAN. Local area
generally connects group of computer networks within a structure of two or three buildings. This
can be differentiated from the above network as it is the extended version Of PAN as it
interconnects two or three PAN with each other networking technology.

Metropolitan Area Network (MAN): This types of networks are generally larger and slightly
more complexed then LANs. This ensures the large networking connectivity within a
geographical area of a city, town or sometimes a campus (Kreutz and et.al., 2015). This is
generally larger then LANs but smaller then WANs. This is generally managed and owned by a
single person or a large company.
Wide Area Network (WAN): These are the widely used network which provides
interconnectivity over a large distance. This can be accessible throughout the world and thus
covers very long distance then other networking technologies available. It has much larger scope
then all the other types of networks and it also enables people to communicate via internet. This
is referred as one of most basis example of LAN which helps in providing interconnectivity of
almost thousands of computer and other devices together in order to exchange the data and
resources in more efficient way.
Hilton Hotel generally follows two different types of technologies in organisation. In
order to promote effective communication within the hotel, this organisation follows LAN
architecture. However it also uses WAN architecture in order to communicate with outside world
(Lohrke, Frownfelter-Lohrke and Ketchen 2016). As Networking technology is the one which
plays a great role in connecting large people with Hilton hotel.
CONCLUSION
From the above study, it can be concluded that Information Technology can derive any
organisation towards the successful development and growth. It has been derived that application
of IT helps in enhancing the overall performance of the Hilton Hotel. This report has also helped
the readers in understanding the role of Information technology in business. The study has also
mentioned different contributions of this technology based world towards the success of industry
However, it may also negatively impacts on the business. This study has also discussed ethical
and social issues faced by the company in order to accomplish stated objectives. It will also help
