Introduction
Technology and media plays a very important role in the lives of the student because
technology can help in improving the relationship between the student and the teachers by
making learning easier and interesting (Brown, Czerniewicz and Noakes 2016). On the other
hand social media has a very important role because it helps the teachers in being connected with
the student’s even off-campus and it can help in information exchange (Chugh and Ruhi 2018).
The main aim of the paper is to show the importance of technology and media in the lives of the
students through close observation of the same. The paper will therefore discuss about how
media and technology plays an important role in their social development, psychological
development and in education. Moreover the paper will also discuss about the methods used by
the researcher, the results, recommendations and limitations.
Literature Review
How media and technology play a role in the social development of the student
Technology and media have an important role to play in the social development of the
students as it can help the students in connecting with various educational institutions,
professional and other learning groups (Viberg and Grönlund 2017). It can also help in building
the self-confidence of the student with the help of the knowledge gained by them with the use of
media and technology.
How media and technology play a role in the education of a student
Technology and media can help students to learn by exchanging information easily
whether they are within their campus or outside (Krutka and Carpenter 2016). It also helps

students to learn by making education interesting and when teachers integrate technology into
education they are able to occupy the role of advisor and content expert. This can help the
teachers in building better relationships with the students.
How media and technology play an important role in the psychological development
of the student
The way students interact and socialize with others is changed with the help of media and
technology and therefore the same can have some major impacts on their mental and emotional
wellbeing (Ruthmann and Dillon 2018). There can be both positive and negative impacts of the
use of media and technology in the psychological development of students.
Methodology
The method that was used by me for collecting the data was participative observation.
For the observation process, I selected the campus library and classrooms because students spend
most of their time in the same. For the purpose of this study, I observed 15 students. 7 male
students and 8 female students. I was observing their behavior in the campus library and in
classrooms in order to understand how many of the students made use of their laptops and
mobile phones for competing their assignments besides their books and notes. I observed that 10
out of 15 students used their phones and laptops for completing their assignment in addition to
their books.
Results
From the above observation it has been understood that technology and media plays a
very important role in the lives of the students because they help students in gathering
information easily and they can also use it for exchanging their information with other students.

Moreover the learning process of students can be made much easier with the help of technology
and media. I also observed the students in their classrooms and it was found that teachers who
made use of technology for teaching their students were able to attract the attention of the
students easily. However it was also observed that students used their cell phones for checking
latest news in their social medias (Ozcan and Bicen 2016).
Discussion
Therefore from the above paragraph, it has been understood that without technology and
media, the learning proves of the students would have slowed down (Zheng, Yim and
Warschauer 2018). This is so because many times there are a number of concepts and teams in
the books which becomes difficult for students to read and understand and in such situation it is
only the technology and media that can help the students by simplifying the same. Moreover
technology and media makes students more knowledgeable by being updated with the latest
information of different subjects.
Conclusion
Therefore from the above discussion, it can be concluded that media and technology has
a very important role to play in the lives of students because it helps them in their social
development, education and also psychological development. However there were many
limitation that had to be faced by me while collecting the data such as there were interferences
from other students while I was observing a few students in our campus library and classrooms. I
also feel that the COVID pandemic had effected the behavior of the students because they were
continuously checking their phones and laptops for seeing any latest updates about the pandemic.

In fact technology and media have become a major part of the lives of the students and its use on
education is likely to increase in future.
