INTRODUCTION
Management is an activity that helps in establishing strategy for the organisation which
ultimately helps them to achieve their objectives efficiently. The leadership and management are
two very important aspects of every business. The major difference between these two aspects
are that leaders are those who have their subordinates or team who follow them. One the other
hand managers are those who actually perform the function of managing people and they help in
effective functioning of all the functions of company. This report is based on Rowlinson
Knitwear Ltd. which dealing in manufacturing of apparels. Rowlinson Knitwear was established
in the year 1935. they are dealing in manufacturing of garments which are of premium quality
and majorly they are retailers of corporate wear and school wear. This report is based on
similarities and differences between management and leadership in the organisations. Further
there is a discussion of the roles played by leaders and managers in the company.
1) Introduction to organisation and their management structure
Company overview : Rowlinson knitwear Ltd. Is a manufacturing company which
manufactures knitwear and school uniforms and operates its business in the UK. The company is
headquartered in Stockport, England and along with school uniforms it also manufactures
sweatshirts and polo-shirts. They manufactures the apparels based on the requirements of their
customers and also offers them at different ranges so that their products can suit all the income
groups. The company follows strong ethical standards and the quality of their products is
rigorously checked and monitored. They manufacture uniforms for both males and females and
ranging from all the age groups that are applicable on school going students.
Management structures that are followed in companies are : Management structures
that are followed in the organisation defines the way in which task are allocated among the
employees and also involves the way in which coordination and supervision of the work of
employees are done so that the organisational goals and objectives can be achieved. This
structure determines the way in which the daily activities are coordinated and managed in an
organisation following standard operating procedures so that the goals can be achieved on time
and within the stipulated budget (Verhoef, Kannan and Inman, 2015). Following are the
management structures that are usually followed :

1. Line structure : It is the simplest and oldest form of structure where the authority flows
from the topmost executive to the lowest subordinate. Managers have direct authority
over the subordinates and the CEO is at the topmost position. This structure is very rigid
and the flow of information is one way i.e. from top to bottom and the collaboration is
also very less.2. Functional structure : This helps in organizing the workers by placing them in groups
with similar set of skills, talents and interests. Through this structure centralization is
avoided and high specialisation is achieved. It is suitable for small companies so that
functional control over employees can be achieved without generating conflicts between
managers (Schoonover and Crim, 2015).3. Matrix structure : In this structure reporting relationships are set up as a grid or matrix
and helps the organisations in achieving higher efficiency of the employees and meeting
the needs and wants of the customers. It helps in developing new products and services in
the market.
4. Project based structure : This structure is followed by highly dynamic and creative
companies such as software developers, architecture firms, special industrial equipment
installation projects and event organization companies so that the project work can be
efficiently completed within time and stipulated budget. A project leader manages the
work of all team members so that they can be encouraged to work effectively.
Rowlinson knitwear Ltd. follows functional structure which is the most efficient structure
and helps in delegating the roles and responsibilities among the employees and managing their
work so that the objectives and goals of the organisation can be achieved on time. This also helps
in managing the conflicts among the employees so that their efficiency can be increased and they
can be motivated to enhance their performance (Salic and Zelic, 2018).
2) Similarities and difference between Leadership and management in the organisation
Managers is an individual who is responsible for managing various tasks and group of
tasks for a department or an organisation. Various people works under them who are responsible
to them and they give them the command to perform various role. A manger has to perform
various roles in the organisation such as :
they have to manage a number of jobs in the organisation for which they need to have
interpersonal skills which helps them to build relations with the employees

they have informational role as they have to guide the employees
they are responsible to take various decisions
Leaders is the one who create vision for the people working in the organisation and
influence them to work. This motivates hem to achieve their targets (Poth, 2014). The leaders
plays a crucial role in the organisation which are as follows :
they act as a guide, friend, philosopher for the employees of the organisation which
motivates them to work
they integrates the personal goals of the people and the organisational goals which
brings efficiency in the organisation
The concept of leadership and management is important for the organisation which helps
the organisation to achieve their goals but their correlation is an ongoing debate. For this it
becomes important for the organisation to identify the differences and the similarities between
the management and leadership (Iyamu and Mphahlele, 2014).

There exist various similarities between leadership and management which helps them to
achieve their goals and objectives of the organisation. Various such similarities are :
They both work with people by guiding them, motivating them and surrounds the people
only.
They both creates foundation for the organisational and functional structure.
They influence the structure of the work and the environment in which the employees
work.
3) Conclusion to interrelation of the functions
The Rowlinson has various functions in the organisation which helps them to operate
effectively by interrelating all the functions of the organisation. The interrelation of various
functions such as marketing and procurement helps them to produce goods effectively, while
finance and marketing helps each others to effectively manage the funds by gathering them
effectively (Andraszewicz and et. al., 2015). The interrelation helps the companies to reduce the
cost of the company, integrates the efforts etc.

From the above report it can be concluded that the management and leadership that are
followed in the organisation affects the performance of the employees which helps in achieving
its goals and objectives. These functions that are performed in the organisation have to be
interrelated so that the common goals of the company can be achieved by coordinating their
work. Managers and leaders help in encouraging the employees so that their performance can be
boosted which will help in achieving the goals of the company on time.
