understand the importance of holistic development of children in
early years settings
1.1 Explain what the term ‘holistic development’ means

The holistic development of a child is defined as an approach that foster towards the
education with the concern regards with the growth of the child. Moreover, it is also
concentrated on emotional, physical, personal, social and spiritual wellbeing of the child
with the all-round development and growth. In addition, the child growth and development
are usually focus on all round development rather than focusing on a specific skill or some
kind of information. Therefore, the method is usually providing a perspective towards the
child as a person in order to create learning aspect for the child development. The major
focus on the pattern of study which is included by child for themselves. For the normal
development of the child, there are some of the necessary guidelines are usually developed
with the standards basis that is known as milestones. In addition, it is usually associated
with the pattern of development that usually a child follows for their growth. It is also
analysing that every child has their unique path to show their development and growth that
create differences among the individuals.
There are some of the research which will show the proper connection which is related
with the belief and sense of wellbeing. The positive belief and strength gained from the
religion, meditation and prayer which may show the contribution which is well related with
the aspect of wellbeing. It usually contributed to in order to promote the healing and
improving the spiritual health which may not show the cure of illness. It may also promote
the healing and improving the spiritual health of the person that show the connection
between moral, intellectual, culture and wellbeing.
1.2 Describe the benefits of promoting children’s holistic
development
-Holistic development improves children communication skills:
The promoter of the reliable approach towards the child development are usually
considered that the children who is taking support in order to learn and develop will
recognise the efficient communication and social skills. In addition, that children are
usually excited when the engaged with any activity or game. Therefore, they usually share
their thoughts and opinion related with the activities with others the positive prospective of

the children that make them enable in order to create their discoveries and innovation
which make them pride. Whereas, the proper support is required in order to develop
confidence and boost the self-esteem of the children at usually provide aspect among the
children to create a compatibility while communicating and coordinating with others.
-Motivation as fuel for learning
The efficient use of holistic approach is usually reliable and validated in order to generate
the motivation for the children. It generates the aspect in order to explore the concept and
their own ways and make their own page for their discoveries. In addition, if the children
are getting free then they usually developed some new things that is related with the
creativity and naturally they show their curiosity in order to make their own path and ways.
In addition, the approach usually shows the advantage and the term of children by
providing a formal education when they reach up to the level within the similar period at a
same time creativity as a part of practice order to serve the child towards the innovation.
While, engaging in the activity that make a child accessible for the multi-tasking factor. In
addition, the motivation and proper appreciation among the children usually developed
aspect that provide them a booster to develop new discovery or engage with their activities.
-Taking a holistic approach to planning
In addition, when a planning is usually initiated on the basis of holistic approach in the
setting. It usually allows the practitioner in order to analyse the children as an individual
and rectify how the deficiency in one development area are usually affect the progress of
the children. In order to understand association that may be associated with the
development areas of the children are usually provide and observation for the future
activities or the provision that help the individual to grow themselves and show their
learning and wellbeing abilities. It is usually analysed that the planning is also an activity
and accepting that it might progress in the number of various dimensions. The method is
flexible and advantages when the child are usually showing their aspect for the new
innovation and if any schedule are usually arising then the flow of the discovery are
usually interrupted.

-Building better relationship
The relationship is the major factor which is usually show their positive impact with the
child. As a role of supporter or caregiver who usually guide the children for their
development journey is essential to provide them proper path. In this, the relationship
between child and practitioner are usually different which is based on the formal role. In
addition, the trust and building a positive relationship with the child are usually helpful in
order to encourage and motivate for the proper interaction and communicating with the
others. The holistic activities are usually building in the effective way when they are
showing a positive connection with the child with the help of appreciation that can
encourage the child to focus on the success.
-Connecting with the natural environment
The most important benefit of the development that is based on the holistic approach is
usually provide the child to involve in the environment or the natural world. The child is
usually taking it as an opportunity to freedom in order to explore and observe the activity
that is conducted in the real world. Moreover, the outdoor activities are usually providing a
holistic advantage to the children and it is very popular choice for the number of children.
In order to promote such approach towards the learning are usually related with the topic
that is ‘understanding the world’.
 The essential advantage of the holistic approach is that it provides a way to develop
emotional, psychological, mental, and social growth.
 In addition, it also provides active play that is fantastic to get a new knowledge and
improve the children holistic wellbeing and health.
 The holistic approach is usually allowing that children to learn naturally and
motivate them to create understanding towards any new subject.
Overall, within each area the advantage of holistic learning is well show the aspect which
is related with the aspect which provide the core concept of self-motivation which
formulate the aspect of durability of task and work which is assign and boost the
confidence and improve the academic performance of the children when the approach of

holistic learning is used. Therefore, they also show the aspect which is related with the
problem solving and creativity that foster the growth and development of children.

 Personal, social and emotional development
 Physical development
Cognitive and language development
The cognitive or the intellectual development of the children within the holistic
development usually shows the skills, knowledge, disposition, and problem-solving skills.
Moreover, it is also contributed to the development of the mind that helps the children to
think logically and understand the world around them. It is usually regulated by the
functions of the brain that create understanding recognition and reasoning. Moreover, the
perspective or perception is usually affected by experience and knowledge that is given by
children during the emotional state period.
Language development
Language development is defined as the development of communication and interaction
skills that also include important factors such as receptive speech that create understanding
towards the child. In addition, the expressive speech that is usually produced by a child in
the occurrence of words and articulation is the child's pronunciation of the word.
Emotional and social development
The emotional and social factors also contributed to the holistic development where it
helps to provide the development of feeling such as happiness, sadness, worry, and many
more. In this, the development of a concept and self-esteem are usually analyzed. In
addition, it also shows some of the feelings towards the others and as per the development
of the children, the growth of feeling and awareness of oneself is also evaluated.

Social development
Social development also includes the growth and development of a child in the social
group and community. Moreover, socialization is defined as the procedure of learning the
attitude and skills that usually help the children to enable to live within the social group
and community.
Moral and spiritual development
The moral and spiritual development of the child is usually consisted of raising awareness
that how to relate to others morally, ethically, and based on human approaches. It usually
creates an understanding of the value of people respecting others and maintaining honesty
regards with the task and activities. In addition, they also learn about right and wrong and
what are the measurable responsibilities that they pursue in their lives.
Physical development
The physical development of the child is also showing an aspect that enhances the skills
and becomes more complex when they understand the core concept of physical strength. In
addition, physical development is usually divided into two main areas that are gross motor
skills and gross manipulative skills. The gross motor goals are included running, walking,
and other activity that require force and energy to perform the activities. Whereas, gross
manipulative skills are usually involved movements of the arm to throwing, catching, and
making arms movements.
Sensory development
Sensory development is also contributed to the holistic approach because the sensation is
defined as a process by which the children receive the information through the census such
as hearing, smells, taste, and many more.

holistic development of children from birth to age 5:
 One plan for speech, language and communication development
 One plan for Personal, social and emotional development
 One plan for Physical development

Speech, language and
communication
The speech and language development may foster with
the use of activity such as sand play and other related
activity include puzzles game and so on which help
where the children used to perform the task in the team
which is show the aspect that progress the children
speech, language and communication.
Personal, social and
emotional development The development of children within the centre with
other children where they used to communicate and
interact with other children help to provide the context
that foster the personal, social and emotional
development of the children.

Physical development The physical development of the child may get
promoted through the use of proper activities that foster
the growth of children with physical strength such as
playing outdoor games where run and walk. Such as
playing football and so on.
In my concern, the implemented activities and games may help the children in order to
grow on the various aspect which include social, emotional, physical and so on. The
activities may help to show the events that foster the growth of physical development that
is related with the outdoor games where they make proper team for the accomplishment
objective of games. The communication and interaction with other children support the
social and emotional growth of child.
