CE 1.1 Project Information
Name of the project: Development of a Power Source for Rural Areas
Location of the project: [PLEASE FILL]
Project Duration: [PLEASE FILL]
Organization: [PLEASE FILL]
Role and Designation during the time: Project Supervisor
CE 1.2 Project Background
CE 1.2.1 Characteristics of the project
Supply and availability of the electricity in rural areas is always a problem for the
developing countries and it should be adhered as soon as possible. I had developed a model of
SSVT “(Station Service voltage Transformer)” that can be used as power source for the supply
of electricity of electricity to the rural areas from high voltage transmission grid. This model can
be used as a mini-substation that can be utilized for stepping down the high voltage received
from the grids and supply low or medium voltage supply to the rural community without extra
expenses or investments. I designed the model in way that it can be used for reducing the cost to
20% as that of the traditional substations. I was focused towards delivering a product that can be
utilized for enhancing the livelihood of the population living in the rural areas and provide them
a better lifestyle.

CE 1.2.2 Objectives developed for the project
I considered to take the command in my hand and developed the following goals and
objectives for accomplishing the constraints of the project:
To develop an effective power source for rural areas
To establish SSVT between the power grid and village users
To enhance the livelihood the rural community and thus, contribute in the
development of my country
To manage the team members utilizing proper leadership and management skills
To manage the budget very less in manner to be applicable for the application
CE 1.2.3 My area of work
I was assigning the roles to the team members as the project was of no use if the
infrastructure setup had not been delivered. I had to design the model of the project that can be
utilised in the real world application and could be executed in an effective and efficient manner. I
had to manage the financial constraint as the designed model could be setup near every rural
communities in the country and the first objective was to present a cost effective solution for the
transmission. I had simply replaced the direct connection between the grid and the villages with a
substation of the SSVT set up that can be used as a step down transformer for the transmission of
power to the rural community. I had identified that this infrastructure can be a single solution for
all the identified problems in the electricity transmission for the rural communities.

CE 1.2.5 My responsibilities throughout the project
I was commanding the team so it was my responsibility to manage the project smoothly
and recommend the best options for the team in manner to execute the project in an effective and
efficient manner. I was responsible for supervising the whole project under my surveillance, and
managing the responsibilities, and roles of each associated member. I motivated the team
members to accomplish the objectives of the project within the expected schedule and deliver the
maximum quality of the project. I had also communicated with the suppliers and tried to manage
the supplies of high quality ensuring that the output of the project is effective and efficient.

CE 1.3 Distinctive Activity
CE 1.3.1 Comprehending the theory of the project
I identified that rural community does not electricity as much needed in the cities and so,
even low voltage transmission can be enough for fulfilling the basic needs of the rural
community. I was assigned for maintaining the electricity supply within the rural communities
for which, I established a SSVT that can be used for stepping down the voltage and supply it to
the rural community. This project is helpful in reducing the energy waste and limiting the supply
that is enough for the consumption by rural communities. The project is a vast project that can be
beneficial for the whole community by many means so, it was necessary for me to supervise and
execute proper audit for the maintenance of the quality.
CE 1.3.2 Engineering knowledge and skills applied in the project
I supervised the project that was to establish SSVT for managing the electric supply in
the rural community and manage the power consumption for later use. Seven units of the 230
KV SSVT in manner to supply the power to seven rural villages that was funded by the
government. I had considered the aspects that the power supply should be well distributed among
the hospitals, schools, and the households. I applied my skills for the establishment of the relays
and wiring at the transformer. I also considered the insulation as one of the most emphasizing
factor for the long run of the developed project. I executed mathematical calculations for fixing
the insulation and made sure that it will not be destroyed due to high voltage or other factors.
CE 1.3.3 Accomplishment and task performed
I had to supervise the replacement of the high voltage station service to the SSVT
through establishing it as a connector between the grid and the rural communities. I had to

calculate the power supply and transmission of the supply to the rural companies. I had to make
sure that the growth of the project is moving in the right direction and motivate them through
providing proper suggestions. SSVT was established as the mediator between the grid and the
rural areas for limiting the power supply at low voltage.
CE 1.3.4 Identified issues and their solutions
1.3.4.1 Issues
I had identified that the insulation at the SSVT was being damaged due to the factor of
the high voltage and dusts those were in the air. I also identified that the air breakdown voltage
might also affect the insulation and it could break and allow the electricity to pass through it.
Collaborating the team members and staffs was one of the challenge during the execution of the
project.
1.3.4.2 Solutions
I asked for more supply of the rings of insulation at the transformer from the suppliers,
established extra rings at the joints, and managed to retain the resistance property of the
insulators. I calculated the air breakdown voltage and maintained the space between both the
joints of the power supply at the SSVT. I organized the brainstorming sessions for considering
the perspectives of each individual involved in the project.
CE 1.3.5 Plan to produce creative and innovative work
Power supply to the rural areas can be a costly procedure to provide the supply in the
rural communities. I had used SSVT in the place of the HVSS that was much more costly than
the proposed approach and could not be a cost effective option for the organization to establish
the power transmission. SSVT can be operated between 25 kVA (in single-phase supply) to
Document Page
333kVA (in three-phase supply) and is capable of meeting the demand of the electricity within
rural areas. The compatible size and flexibility in complexity makes it more suitable for the rural
electrification.
CE 1.3.6 Collaborative work
The project would not be accomplished in an effective manner if the team members had
not contributed in the project as large number of human force were needed for the project
delivery. I was supervising many labours and staffs under me and implemented every action
asked by the project manager for the project planning to the project closure. Human labour were
needed for the establishment of the wiring and the transformers. Other team members from ITI
background had to make sure that the setups are being done as per the need of the
transformation. Transformer connections and household transmissions were the responsibility of
general electrical technicians.
CE 1.4 Project Review
CE .4.1 Project Overview
Traditional way of power supply among the rural areas needs lots of establishments and
infrastructures for making it happen however, we have proposed a solution that can be restored at
low space and can be utilized as a mini substation. It can be helpful in providing the medium or
low voltage supply to the rural communities through stepping down the voltage received from
the grids directly. I supervised the whole project and I tried to manage the roles and
responsibilities of every individual related with the project. The objective of the project was

accomplished and the successful model for the rural electrification is proposed that is helpful in
managing the power distribution from the power grids to the rural areas.
CE 1.4.2 My contribution to work
I had been assigned as the project supervisor for evaluating and monitoring the growth
and quality of the project. I contributed in auditing the activities involved in the project and
managed the growth of the project. I delivered the establishment of the design for the
transmission of the power cables. I communicated with the contractors and suppliers and
evaluated the products and their quality for managing the overall quality of the project. I
considered it as a serious problem for the transmission and power conservation and delivered this
project in efficient and effective manner.
