Case Analysis
1. Provide a brief summary of the significant historical information
The case study summarizes the scenario of social worker in the aboriginal community in the
regional center of Ruralville. The case study highlights the scenario of the experiences of the
community regarding the effects of the years of drought. The effect over the local economy has
furthermore influenced the wellbeing and the morale of the people residing in the township
throughout. The historical data or the information that has been gathered from the summary of
the case study includes the attraction of the new arrivals to the community after the drought from
the large metropolitan areas for a tree change together with some of the affordable rate of
accommodation (Browne et al., 2016). The historical instances that took place includes the
dropping of the property values in the current times and also the tension among the local people
and the members of the community towards the upcoming of the new arrivals. To highlight the
information regarding the community it can be stated that the community holds a multicultural
dimension specifically targeting the aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people together with the
second and third generation Greek and Italian members. Many of the historical community
member settled in the year 1950 with the establishment of the market garden.
In the current scenario as stated in the case study, the class played an important place. The
aboriginal people feels threatened due to the intrusion of the higher class people in their city.
Ethnicity furthermore plays an essential role since the aboriginal people jointly protested
regrading sudden visit of the metropolitan citizens in their city. They feel that their cultural
regimes are under threat.

2. Consider the values, assumptions and ethical considerations in this case
The decision taken in the case reflects the values and beliefs together with direction for a
specified purpose. The values discussed in this case study includes the justice for the security for
the existing aboriginal community people who as threatened with the incoming of the intruders
from the metropolitan cities. In the context of the case study, role of the social worker of children
furthermore includes the value of responsibility to look after the well being and the health of the
children (Smylie et al., 2016). This furthermore the values and the assumptions of faithfulness
contributes to the role of the child care social worker of the Adolescent and Family Health
Service. It is furthermore been assumed that the family in concern is a happy family moving to
the city in the hope of a better living and employment. Both Tom and Anna are expected to have
a better and health childhood with their parents George and Mary who are 26 and 27 years old
respectively.
The ethical consideration that can be discussed in the case study includes the view of the social
worker towards the children. Since George is unemployed, both Tom and Anna might face
threatened from suspension from their school due to the degrade of the financial condition. It is
thus ethically essential for the social worker to look after the fact that the children do not get
expelled from their basic right of education. Also, the consideration of the children as aboriginal
or not is one of the ethical consideration that has been highlighted in the case study.
3. What are the identified challenges and concerns.
The case study includes multiple of challenges and concerns. Starting from the historical data of
the region to the story of the aboriginal family.

The city of Ruralville includes a youth community health service that furthermore served a wide
range of the farming areas. The community residing in the region had been the victims of the
frequent drought that effects the region through out the years. The effect over the economy and
the well being of the individual has been vivid also. One of the biggest challenges that the case
study highlighted in the context of the regional disputes are the intrusion of the newer arrivals
from the large metropolitan areas There have been some of the rising tension among the local
regarding the new arrivals due to the perspective of the local people regarding the demotion of
the town culture and the economy.
Another challenge that has been highlighted in the case study is the issues of the family of Mary
and George with their children Tom and Anna. Though the family shifted in the region with the
thought of more affordable set of lifestyle, the drought in the country has impacted the
employment opportunity of the region leaving George as unemployed and Mary as hopeless.
Furthermore issues have been highlighted in the essay regarding the status and the wellbeing of
the children (Pascua et al., 2017). Often the children were found missing their school, appearing
to school without lunch or equipment’s that is required within the school. Issues and challenges
were furthermore noticed with the behavior of the Mary and George when the social worker
initiated to converse with them regarding the wellbeing of them and their children and also
regarding their status as aboriginal.
The types of the support that the family required includes financial assistance and assistance
regrading homelessness and child well being care for Tom and Anna.

4. Considering the application of theory to practice, how does a theoretical framework support
the work with this family?
The aboriginal or the indigenous community of people have a world view and means regarding
their relation to the world. This section of the assignment will highlight over the indigenous
theory which is rooted intimately within the epistemologies, the work views , the traditions and
the culture of the aboriginal people.
The indigenous holistic theory is the entire cyclical, ecological and relational one. This theory
involves the medicine wheel together with the circles and four directions for the effective and
appropriate means and the tools for the development of the healing strategies (Chan,2016). The
theory consist of the diagram related to the concentric circles that furthermore represents the
reciprocal interconnections of individual , nation, community, society and its creation.
The theoretical framework that is supported for working with the family can be described and
illustrated below.
The suggested framework connects to the number of the state and the national frameworks and
the plans together with the existing policy of departments, the service delivery frameworks and
the range of the department across the sector agreements, the partnerships and the strategies.
After going through the case study of Mary and George it is evident that they need proper social
work assistance. This includes a need for a proper assessment and intervention plan for the
reduction of the risk among the family with children.
The intervention plan includes the following:

The focus of the community ranging from the reviews and the process of consultations of the
family of George and Mary and the welfare of their children. Furthermore working with the
aboriginal community controlled organizations and review of the status of the family as
aboriginal are one of the main motive of the intervention plan of the social service workers.
Further partnerships with the families and communities are some of the major plan for the
assessments regrading the social service workers (Howe, 2017).
Some of the major factors and the plan that the social service workers aims to focus includes the
following:

 Framework for the development of people
 Framework for the remote services
 Signs regarding the safety child protection practice framework
 Diversity and workshop plan
 Policy related to the foster care partnership

1. What additional information would you have liked to know?
Being a social worker of the child care center in the Australia in that particular region, I
believe I need some of the more information and the additional data regarding the status
of the children and the parents that is Mary and George and their current financial
condition. It is evident from the nature or the behavior of Mary that she has been trying to
hide something. Furthermore the aboriginal status of the children were also in a question

since the father of the children strongly opposed regarding the aboriginal status and the
enrollment of tom and Anna regarding their joining to the aboriginal activities within the
school. The lack of the proper equipment’s with the children and the absence of lunch
box together with the weird behavior and attitude of their parents towards their wellbeing
is one of the concern presenting additional data that would have been required.
2. Why would this additional information have been helpful to you in undertaking the
assessment?
Additional information or the data regarding the exact reason behind the attitudes and the
behavior of both Mary and George is needed since this would be helpful for me to engage
in further communication with them to sort out their issues and challenges (Rubin &
Babbie, 2016). The children needs to be in proper health and their right towards primary
education should be kept intact irrespective of the financial condition of the family. The
social worker needs to understand and identify the exact concern of the family and their
status of aboriginal which they seem to ide for understanding their issues and challenges.
Some of the additional information that would have been essential are the skills of
George and strength of Mary for effectively conducting social work practice. This
includes effective assessment, planning and intervention that will be effective over the
family.
3. Did your personal experiences of family life inform how you undertook the process of
assessment?
The process of assessment taken by me included interrogation with the family members
and the children in their school. I initiated to talk with the family members that is both

George and Mary for understanding what is their issue and why they are hiding from the
society. My personal experiences did helped me with the way I undertook the process of
my assessment regarding the current case study. I have faced similar situations of the
violent family and unhealthy and untreated and neglected children belonging from the
aboriginal communities.
4. How did you balance the power relationships between individuals and family members in
your interpretation of the case study?
In case of the interpretation of the case study I managed to balance the power relation
among the individuals and the family members of the case study. Power relations are
generally gender related and in the current assessment study I took a note to initiate
communication with both Mary and George regarding their issues and the challenges they
have been facing after their shift in the city. The young couples needs to be interrogated
with the balance of the power relationship since both of them are essential for the
children and for their well being. Mary had the dream of studying more while George
had the dream of doing the construction employment with workers which eventually
failed. This has perhaps let in the drift among them together with their negligence
towards their children. With the context of the power relationship initiated to ease out
their issues and give them some of the options and the chances for some of the financial
opportunities for their betterment.
5. What did you learn from this assignment and how has your perspective of family practice
changed?

I learned a lot from the above case study and the assessment. Some of the life long
lessons that I have got from the case study of Mary and George is that getting married at
the tender age is not a right decision. One should only get married and initiate to start a
family only when they are financially stable and ready. Next lesson is that George and
Mary should have researched regarding the place before shifting in the hope of an
affordable living. This is because due to the frequent draught, the place lacked the
opportunities for employment leading George to danger and financial crisis. The family
had to shift to public living housing due to the crisis of money. This should not have
happen. Furthermore the attitude of George towards the family and the children needs to
improve. Mary on the other hand has always been in some of the fear and when the social
workers initiated to have a talk with her, she ignored and escaped the conversation in
some of the unknown fear, my be regarding some types of violence or chaos that has
been happening within the house.
I learned from this assignment that living with a family one needs to be supportive, have
values and ethics for supporting the family in the bad times. It is essential and important
for George to search for new job opportunity and also take care of the children and not
scare them off. This is because the children are entitled to right to happy and healthy
living together with their right to primary education.
