INTRODUCTION
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility in promoting health and welfare of children and
adults from risk. It also protecting adults and children risk from harming. It prevents the risk
from abuse and exploitation and simultaneously support to people to control their own lives. UK
government have set many principles of safeguarding the interest of people. nowadays,
safeguarding is considered as imperative subject which has been reflected in national legislation
also (Aveyard, 2014). In present report meaning of abuse, how it is harm or danger to individual
or group has been explained in regards to given case study. Further, risk factors which are
associated with abuse and harm to self and others is explained. Apart from this, working
practices and strategies regarding school nurse and social worker is discussed. In last impact of
social cultural factor in different ways in Wellington hospital. Along with this strength and
weakness of current legislation in relate to abuse of vulnerable people is explained in detailed.
TASK 1
1.1 Explaining why individuals and group is vulnerable
Abuse is a violation of individual or group harm which has been done by other person.
The result of abuse is significant to harm or exploitation of person. Abuse shows the behaviour
of person towards that deliberately which is causing harm to him or her and endangers life of
human rights. There are different types of abuse which are using by individual at workplace such
as physical violence, sexual, psychological, discriminatory abuse and many more. At workplace
it is responsibility of service provide that do not abuse with anyone. Besides from this, they have
to protect the rights of individuals from such kind of activity (Dong, Chen and Simon, 2014).
Abuse can become danger for individual or group of person because it is occurring problem in
their lives. In organisation, health care assistant has to providing training so employee can also
identify the harm which is causing to individual or group of people. It also depends upon person
that how they are treating with others. These training will help them in to understand the
importance of children’s rights, understanding patients care physically or mentally which is also
affecting to children well beings and their development. However, there are many adults who are
at the age of 18 and they are unable to protect themselves against abuse, exploitation or harm,
take care of themselves (Brown, 2014). It is their responsibility to protect from abuse because it
can also damage their health.

In given case scenario, Pensioner who was a care patient catches her worker stealing cash
from her purse. Nadia who was the employer of care worker had given the cost to Mrs Lynette.
She felt helpless to accuse the people who are caring for her.
As per case scenario, the practices which has been done by Nadia’s care worker is
financial or material abuse. It includes theft of money, fraud or scamming, misusing of personal
allowance, worker is taking loan from other people and using their services, false representation
of facts and many more.
1.2 Review risk factors which are associated with abuse and harm
There is no particular reason for abuse. It is causing both complex and concealed to
person. But there are certain factors which are related with abuse. The following are some risk
factors which is causing harm to people from abuse.
Lack of mental capacity – When individual had suffered from any abuse, then t can also
become risk form them in terms of mental capacity. As there are many people who are suffering
from mental capacity and other people are causing harm to them.
Low self-stream – Some individual or group of people are also feeling like that their
social status (Caetano, Schafer and Cunradi, 2017). There are some people in society who
maintain their status if somebody abusing them, then it also impacting on their social life also.
Social isolation – An individual may be isolated or lack of social contract in their life.
Some of the factors are also increasing the risk of abuse i.e. misappropriation of property or
valuables, money, misusing of power of attorney, physical isolation.
Career stress – Caring of individual who is failure needs special care to become
stressful. Here are some factors which can contribute in career of abusive relationship; lack of
respite care, financial problems, inadequate support in high quality of care and many more.
