INTRODUCTION
Project management encompasses of planning as well as organising resources of an
organisation for completing a specified task in an effective manner (Burtonshaw-Gunn, 2017).
Project management tools are considered as necessary for organisational managers as it help in
improving team effectiveness. For having a better understanding of project management,
SAHMRI (South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute) is taken into consideration.
This building is designed by Adelaide-based architectural organisation Woods Bagot. It consists
of seven storey above and three levels below the ground level. This building has also got a
nickname as The Cheesegrater for its signature dia-grid-facade. It provides wet as well as dry
laboratory modules which enable researchers to perform their job with a seamless experience. It
also perform collaborated activities with health systems which facilitates in delivering health
improvements. It is designed with providing ample space as well as interconnecting spiral
staircase which encourage collaboration to with the community which it serves for providing
health improvements.
This project has a wide scope as it designed with environmental management plan for
recycling waste for ensuring the compliance with sustainable practices. This project was
commenced in May, 2010 by completing modelling in 3D Revit software for solving varied
structural as well as system complexities (Hindmarsh. 2022). This construction is done by
Hindmarsh, structural engineers is Aurecon and architect are Woods Bagot. Objective of
SAHMIRI project is fostering innovation as well as improvements in health services for carrying
out research in regards with metabolism, cancer, heart diseases and many more.
PROJECT STAKEHOLDER ANALYSIS
Stakeholder analysis can be described as a process whereby individuals are identified at
the initial phase and grouped in their level of participation, influence, interest for making desired
communication (Harrison and Lock, 2017). Purpose of stakeholder analysis is to develop
strategic relationship among differentiated stakeholders as well as the issues which they
undertake the most. Stakeholders involved in this project encompasses of client namely,
Department of Planning Transport and Infrastructure, construction company, Hindmarsh,
designing enterprise, Woods Bagot, Australian federal government and structural engineering
team, Aurecon.

Hindmarsh Constructions is responsible for constructing the building. Woods Bagot is
involved in designing the structure of the SAHMIRI building. Aurecon is responsible for
structural designs in regards with geotechnical, facade, fire engineering and many more.
Australian federal government is responsible for providing funds for this project and assign
varied companies.
Apart from this stakeholders, China-based Shenyang Yuanda is involved in installing
diagrid facade for making its structure unique. Other vital stakeholders encompasses of
researchers, doctors of Royal Hopital, suppliers, competitors and many more.
MANAGEMENT OF THE PROJECT
Project implementation phase is essentially concerned with the stage whereby vision
came into reality through coordinating varied resources for meeting the objectives in an effective
manner (Kim, Chang and Castro-Lacouture, 2020). For implementing the project, varied teams
and stakeholders in regards with architecture, construction and design came together for
completing this project. Activities involved in this project are:
Determining architectural and construction designs
Installing ESD features and Diagrid Facade Structure in building for making it
sustainable
Completion of project
For managing this implementation phase, Hindmarsh Constructions, Wood Bagots,
Aurecon tried to accomplish complex functional requirements by integrating varied activities at
one place in a strategic manner. Designer team of this project have designed flower columns as
well as atriums for making is accessible from the fore front. Laboratories are constructed in such
as way which bifurcates workplace, support functions, write-up space for the purpose of
meetings. For moderating light designers of Wood Bagots essentially devised aluminium
sunshades which was done by computer modelling.
Challenges faced by construction company
Challenges which are faced by architects of Wood Bagots are mentioned below:

It provides laboratory spaces for 675 researchers in a fully-flexible manner.
It is constructed with unique structure by using Diagrid Facade Structure.
It got architectural excellence which aid in determining a focal point in respect to health
and medical research through fostering innovative practices.
Its unique geometry is constructed with the combination of steel diagrid subframe along
with external aluminium suite.
It characterise high performance triangular panels, aluminium infill panels, woven mash
panels for optimising thermal as well as light efficiency.
It is considered as first building which used Diagrid Facade Structure and flower
columns.

It has been constructed with the aid of ecological sustainable development features which
provides maximum daylight through glass facade. It has become first LEED Gold-
Certified laboratory building.
Outcome of this project has met the primary objective for constructing it in a significant
manner.
Varied phases of project management life cycle in context to SAHMIRI project is as
follows:
In initiation phase, goals, scope as well as resources are determined in accordance with
project (Larsson, Eriksson and Pesämaa, 2018). In context to SAHMIRI project, Australian
federal government determine the need of medical research institute and collaborate with
Hindmarsh Constructions and designing is assigned to integrated design team called Woods
Bagot enterprise. Aurecon was designated for designing structure of the SAHMIRI building.
In planning phase, budgets, timelines as well as milestones are determined for the
specified project in an effective manner (Mavi and Standing, 2018). In accordance with
SAHMIRI project, construction, architectural and designing teams have discussed their role for
initiating their tasks.
In execution phase, plans are transformed into actions which also encompasses of aspects
in relation to mitigating risk, managing quality as well as maintaining budget in a strategic
manner (Mesároš, Mandičák and Behúnová, 2020). In regards with SAHMIRI project, a budget
of $200m is given to Hindmarsh to complete the project.

context to SAHMIRI project, in 2013, China-based organisation Shenyang Yuanda has been
given a contract of installing diagrid facade in building.

technological advancements (Zhong and Et. Al., 2018). Complete SAHMIRI building is
configured with fibre and copper cabling with integrated IP network. This building requires trade
skills in terms of highest orders as well as innovative practices for non-lienar geometry and high-
end specifications. Challenge faced by project managers involves installation of atrium ceiling,
jointed plasterboard, spiral staircase and many more.

CONCLUSION
From the above presented information, it has been concluded that this project was a
success and fulfils all of its objectives consisting of building a laboratory workplace for research
work in an effective manner. It has been analysed that Hindmarsh Constructions plays a
significant role in constructing this project. Designs are created with effectiveness for making
this structure unique and a place which supports researchers to perform important research work
for the betterment of community. Project outcome is came as great as it involves unique facade
designs which improve the access to daylight as well as maintain visibility in an effective
manner. This remarkable project is considered as challenging for project managers but it
provides varied opportunities to them for showcasing their designs, management expertise,
fabrication and many more.
RECOMMENDATIONS
It has been recommended to project managers to formulate their plans in an effective
manner before initiating a project. It is imperative for them to handle varied challenges in a
strategic manner which led to optimize their cost and enhance profit generation capabilities. For
overcoming challenges, project managers need to take advise from experts in field of designing
and construction.
