INTRODUCTION
Every business organization is well aware of the concept of globalisation. In an earlier time, the
accessibility to the products and services for consumers was limited to local business market
along with their choices, the introduction of globalisation resulted in opening up of the business
environment and market for different business organization and firm at international level
(Choshin and Ghaffari, 2017). It is described the shifting towards a more integrated economy in
the world wherein, not only goods, services or resources are exchanged but also culture, beliefs
and ideas are exchanged. It allowed individuals and businesses to interconnect with each other
through geographical and virtual means.
Globalisation has significantly influenced by business organizations in both positive and
negative manner as it opens new markets for the business and also increases the level of
competition within the markets as well as industries (Voegtlin and Scherer, 2017). There are
examples of various organizations that strived and triumphed in the global market by building
their presence, entering a new market and capitalising the growing international demand.
The different factors of globalisation impact the globalisation in either positive or negative or in
both manners. It is required by the business organization to not only analyse the local business
environment but also the global business scenario to look for the opportunities and prosper in
the market and gain competitive advantage (Torkkeli et al., 2019). Globalisation allows the
business organization to reach large numbers of customers around the world in a more rapid
and efficient manner thereby increasing interconnectedness and accessibility. This research
project concentrates on identifying the manner in which the Sainsbury’s business success is
driven by globalisation.

The research objectives are:
1. To conduct a literature review on the role and significance of globalization in the
performance of the business.
2. To identify in what manner the Sainsbury’s business success is driven by globalization.
3. To recommend the business to implement strategies of globalization for its success.
Research Questions
1. What is the role and influences of globalization in the activities of the businesses?
2. What are the factors of globalisation that influences business performance and success?
3. In what manner the Sainsbury’s business success is driven by globalization?
Rational of the Research
Globalisation provides opportunities to the business to operate in countries other than the
country of its origin. It allows the business organization to start a business in various regions of
the world. Every organization aims to continuously grow and prosper in their respective
business. In the case of saturation in the home market, the organization aims to expand and
grow in the business market of other regions, thus globalisation comes into effect (Wang et al.,
2015). Here the success, growth and prosperity of business organization depend on the factors
of globalisation. This forms the basis of the research to identify in what manner the Sainsbury’s
business success is driven by globalisation.

LITERATURE REVIEW
Globalisation is can be regarded as a change in the world as the businesses are moving towards
a more integrated world from a self-sustained country (Emmanuel, 2017). Vahlne and Jonsson
(2017) stated that in most of the current research it is argued that companies’ globalization is a
myth. Their study identified that regardless of it, the firms in Sweden have successfully
managed to globalize by building strong advantages as well as learned to overcome obstacles
created by institutional, cultural as well as geographic distances. The process of globalization is
positively affected by ambidexterity that is involved in a set of dynamic capabilities (Langseth et
al., 2016).
Increased competition is largely faced by small and medium-sized enterprises at both domestic
and global level. The limelight may be taken over by large-scale organization and multinational
corporations but the core growth engine of the majority of the national economies is SMEs that
are critical for them to rebuild the economy after economic crisis (Ng and Kee, 2017). SMEs play
a crucial role in developing and driving innovation, future growth and competitiveness however
lack capabilities and skills. It is discussed that SMEs that are constrained by resources required
maintaining their focus as well as drives to survive as well as progress in this interconnected
and independent world.
Improvement in capabilities such as technicality, transformation leadership, innovativeness and
entrepreneurship is required by SMEs to globalize in a rapid and profitable manner in the
present increasing borderless world (Ng and Kee, 2017).
Also, Fayolle et al (2017) stated that global market growth is stimulated by focusing the
government in adopting marketing-oriented policies, increasing national economies
interdependence and also competed at both domestic and international level. Globalization
focuses on eliminating the restriction on imports as well as foreign investment and result in
including economic as well as industry integration with all around the world. The authors
reviewed the different themes related to entrepreneurship and SMEs in the period of
globalization and its importance in sustaining and growing in this interconnected and
competitive complex global business market (Mosweunyane et al., 2019).

According to Kraus et al (2017), the most common strategy for growth for small as well as
medium-sized organizational is internationalisation. Various challenges may be faced by SMEs
in the internationalisation process. Limited resources characterise SMEs wherein the consistent
decision-making process of managers concerns SMEs resources allocation. It was found that the
internationalisation success of the SMEs can be driven by equity financing, proactive motives,
appropriate selection and a long term scope.
On the other hand, the paper presented by Vendrell-Herrero et al (2017) focused on SMEs that
is located in context to an isolated geographical area like Latin America. The most important
factors to enhance productivity and also to achieve sustainable competitive presences across
abroad are the foreign market focus (FMF) and outward-looking competence (OLC). These
factors from the foundation to setter better business relation at international level with foreign
clients. Also, it helps in increasing opportunities to learn and attain economies of scale.
This above source of information helped in identifying different factors of globalisation that
affects the growth and expansion of small and medium-sized business at a global level. The
information provided in the works of literature helped in considering the pathway for a current
research topic.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
According to Saunders et al (), the research onion framework is selected to explain the research
methodology for the current study. The first layer of research onion is research philosophy.
Positivism research philosophy was selected for this research. The second layer of research
onion is research approaches (Longbottom, 2016). The deductive research approach was
selected. The third layer is strategies for the research. A combination of a survey that is
questionnaire and interview data collection methods were used in the research.
In the fourth layer that is choices referring to the research style to collect and analyse data for
research. The multi-method was used in which both qualitative and quantitative data was used
from only one point of view. The fifth layer is the time horizon in which cross-sectional timing
was used to conduct the research for the time period of 9 weeks (Gioia et al., 2013). The last
stage is data collection and data analysis in which the questionnaire and interview question was
included in the research.
The views, as well as opinions of the participants, were collected through both questionnaire
survey and interview questions. Also, the responses of the participants were quantified for a
better understanding of a large number of audiences. A total of 70 participants have selected
among which 40 participants confirmed for the questionnaire survey and the remaining 10
participants confirmed for an interview survey and took part in them (Kumar, 2019). The
questionnaire survey comprised a total of 5 close-ended questions while 5 open-ended
questions were asked to each participant in interviews to gather their views and opinions. The
responses of the questionnaire survey were presented in the form of table and charts.
