INTRODUCTION
Project management is basically the process of completing the work in a team within the
time limit and constraints to achieve the overall goals of the project. This report is based on the
project management assessment one i.e., Salisbury House. The report will critically evaluate the
Salisbury project in order to identify critical success and failure factor, lesson learnt from project
and further providing proper recommendations. Lastly, the report will also cover the reflection
stating the list of skills that have to be acquire by project manager in order to become successful.
Critical success or failure factors
The various success and failure factors identified from the Salisbury House project
management which has helped or causes difficulties in the achievement of project goals and
milestones are as follows:
Success factor of Salisbury House project:
 Executive support: The support from the executives of the University of Wales is one of
the key success of project. With the help of this support, the project manager able to
assess and diagnose the environment of the university new block in which the project
manager and executives are need to reside (Vrchota and et.al., 2021). The executives
have also support the project manager via allowing project overrun and approving
funding allocations.
 Clear business objectives: The objective of the University is clear that they need to add
additional rooms in the campus with adaptive reception space, administrative office and
many more. With the help of this clear objectives, the project manager able to decide the
activities need to be taken along with the allocation of funds in order to achieve those
objectives of Salisbury house project.
 Optimization: This is another success factor which helps in the achievement of the best
design of setting the priority of constraints. With the help of this, the project manager
able to improve the productivity, strength, longevity and proper utilization of the physical
and human resources (Yadav, Shankar and Singh, 2021).
 Skilled human resources: The staffs and team member are quite supportive and skilled
which able to complete their tasks on time. This is one of the key factor behind the
success of projects. The conflicts between the staffs are also low which does not waste

the time of project manager in unnecessary communications. The human resources are
quite experienced and skills that they can complete their work without any help from
others.
Failure factors of Salisbury House project:
 Project overrun: This is a factor which has causes delay in the project from the pre-
defined time limit. The impact of which the cost of wages to the workers has also
increased which causes cost risk as well to the project. This is basically a failure factor of
the project management where managers have to understand the ways to manage the cost
and budget of project. This will further help them in completing the whole project on
time (Kineber and et.al., 2021).
 Lack of communication: The lack of communication between the manager, staffs and
stakeholders is another factor which leads to failure in the project. Because of this, the
team member and stakeholders have no information about the current and updated
happenings which cause delay in the completion of project. Thus, in order to solve this
issue, it is important for the project manager than they should adopt effective
communication channel.
 Natural calamity: The another factor which leads to the failure of project and that is
earthquake, flood etc. The impact of which the work of building new rooms at the
campus will highly affect (Donner and et.al., 2021). Thus, it is important for the manager
of the project that they should keep themselves and team member updated about changes
occur in nature and weather.
Lesson learnt
The completion of this project could allow me to learn about the project management. I
got to know how big and giant projects are managed by professional. I was not much aware with
the technique of project management but completion of this assignment could allow me to grab
complete detail and information over the practice of project management. I got to know the
complete structure about the project management practice. I could understand about all the
different stages that involve in the practice of project management. I got to know that every
project is segregated into different parts. It is important to understand the need and requirement

of each and every stage of project management. I got to know all the deals about the project
management practice that I followed as I never tried this before so every single aspect of this
project was a new experience for me. I have learnt the clear detail about the project life cycle.
The section of project life cycle taught me to know how the entire project is distributed into
different parts such as initiation, implementation ad all other parts. I also understood how the
information that become a vital par of every project collect and utilise further in order to achieve
the final project outcome (Copola Azenha and et.al., 2021). The lessons I have learnt in the
completion of this project also include all the different ways to collect the information or data.
Completion of this project could allow me to collect the necessary information and data at all
different levels. I got to understand the different practices that can be followed to collect
necessary data and information in process to reach at the final project objectives.
I got to know all the major differences between each stage of project lifecycle. The
concept of project life cycle segregates entire project management into different parts. In this
project I got to know about the clear difference in between every stage of the project life cycle.
The completion of this project could also allow me to understand the need of the gantt chart. I
was not aware with the requirement and need of gantt chart but this assignment could allow me
not only to understand the significance of the gantt chart but also the way to design the gantt
chart as well. I could learn how the different stages of the project life cycle is designed and based
on that I also learn how to use the project management tool to formulate gantt chart in the
project. As I have never experienced this so everything for me in this project was new.
The completion of this project could also allow me to learn about all different skills and
abilities such as research skill, communication, data collection, data analysis, presentation,
analytical skill and many such skills and abilities. I get to know about all these characteristic trait
and the aspects (Filippetto, Lima and Barbosa, 2021). I can quote that this whole project has
been like a learning experience for me as it could assure me to grab the detailed knowledge and
understanding about different areas of project management. This project could also teach me
about the practical aspect of the project management as well. I also learn about the various case
studios in which project management practice was followed in process to complete the entire
project. I have learnt that information and data [lay a significant role in improving the quality of
any project or study conducted. The role of information is massive for the project to maximise
the overall project quality. I also understood about the reporting framework that is also used

while conducting the project management practice. I can state that my entire learning in this
project has been very productive. The experience of this project could allow me to learn about
the theoretical aspect of te project management along with practical implications related to the
practice of project management for a professional. I also get to learn about the formation of
budget in this project. Budget plays a very important role in every project. I got to know how the
budget is prepared in any project and what are the aspects that need to consider before preparing
budget for the projects. I can state that overall this project has been very productive for me as it
could allow me to learn both practical as well theoretical aspect of the project management.
Recommendation
 It is recommended that in future data collection and analysis can be improved. In order to
conduct any project successfully data play a very vita role and part of any project. This is
important to use the right data and information so that better and more productive
outcome can generate against completion of any project task.
 It is recommended that in future budget can also formulate or design in more efficient
manner. Budget plays a vital role while implementing any of the project. The budget that
was set in the current project was limited and did not consider every single aspect or
factor that seek some kind of cost (Magan and et.al., 2021). There are plenty of cost
arises only at the time of implementing project management plan.
 Presentation of the project can become more better. The major emphasis can be given
over data and statistical perspective. This is recommended that in future more data and
statistics can include so that better outcomes of the project can deliver. This will further
improve the significance of the project. Due to lack of implications of data and statistics
the project look less practical by nature.
 This is recommended that in future skill development and improvement must also
prioritise. Skills like communication skill, research, data collection, data analysis and
such abilities are necessary to achieve the best quality possible in any project to be
completed (Fathalizadeh and et.al., 2021). Skill development campaign can be joined to
develop and grow all these required skills and abilities to achieve better outcome of the

study is conducted. The focus over developing skill will certainly provide a better
direction to the career.
Reflection report
The various skills which I have to develop in myself in order to became the successful
project manager are as follows:
Communication skills:
This is one of the major skill which have to be develop in me in order to complete the
whole project within time limit and budgets. Being a project manager, I have to communicate all
information such as project plan, budget, timeline, risk management with my team members and
stakeholders. I need to update my team on latest happenings so that they can carefully work on
their assigned activities. The communication skill will also help me in building the strong
relation with the team members and other stakeholders (Latiffi and Zulkiffli, 2021). I am also
able to negotiate properly with clients and other suppliers at the time of agreement and contract.
Thus, I have to develop and improve my verbal and written communication.
Problem solving skills:
As per my opinion, there is no such project which get completed without any unexpected
issues and problems. Thus, it is important for me to develop this skill in myself in order to deal
with those unexpected issues. Being a project manager, I can’t get discouraged with the problems
but instead I need to face those problems with the best and outstanding solutions. With the use of
or ad hoc method, I can able to find the solutions of difficulties. Further, problem solving skill
will also help me in identifying the issues faces my team member and with the use of face to face
session I will definitely going to solve their issue in the best manner possible (Elmezain
Baduruzzaman and Khoiry, 2021). But before this, one quality I have to develop in myself is
active listening and paying concentration while other are communicating their issues with me. It
helps me in building the strong relation with my staffs.
Risk management skills:

It is important for the project manager to understand that there is no project without risk.
It means every project has risk thus it is my duty that I should develop this skill in myself. With
the help of risk management skill, I am able to identify the risk which is common in all project
and other risk which is specific to my project. After identification of risk based on the risk
identification matrix, I am able to decide which risk need to be reduces, mitigate and transfer.
For example, if I want to protect my project with the natural calamity I need to adopt the transfer
of risk response via taking insurance policy. This will help me in protecting my project from the
uncertain and unexpected risks. Thus, I have to develop risk management skill in myself.
Project management methodologies:
This is a skill of selecting the best methodology of project such as waterfall, agile etc. by
the project manager that best suit their project. As per this skill, I need to get knowledge of all
the methods of project and which method is best for which type of project. This helps me in
identifying the principles that need to be follow by me in order to oversee and complete the
project. For example, in the case of construction or building projects, I have to use the waterfall
method of project because this method divides the project into phases and focus on the
successful delivery of projects (Greer and Carden, 2021).
Collaboration:
This is basically a key skill which must be present in the project manager if they really
want to complete the project along with the achievement of project goals and milestones. I need
to develop this skill in myself because without collaborating with the team I am unable to
manage my team work effectively. It is because my team members easily get distracted and upset
if I will allot them any work which is not their cup of tea. Thus, to encourage them towards all
work it is my prime duty that I have to collaborate with my team members. Beside this,
collaborating skills will also help me in building the strong relation with the stakeholders and
clients.
Time management skills:
The management of time during each stage of project process is most important task for
the project manager. Being a project manager, I need to manage my work as well as my team

member work on time. With the help of this skill, I am able to identify the task and activities
which are important as well as urgent which I need to complete first. Also, it also helps me in
identifying the activities which are neither urgent nor important then I can skip such activities
(Ahmed and Lodhi, 2021). I have to develop this skill in myself in order to timely contact with
the departments and other team member to ensure their work are on track and will complete
within time.
CONCLUSION
From summing up all the above information, it has concluded that project manager plays
vital role in the whole project management phase. The report has concluded the success factors
and failure factors of the Salisbury House project which manager have to go through to identify
where they are lacking and what are their strengths. Further, the report has also concluded the
lesson learnt by project manager from this particular project along with the recommendations for
the further improvement in the projects. Lastly, the report has covered the reflections which
stated the list of skills than project manager has to acquire and develop in themselves in order to
became successful in their career.
