1EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT
1. After reading the article, ‘the globe- the paradox of Samsung’s rise’, my attention was
grabbed by Samsung’s focus on innovation. Their effective management has introduced
merit pay and promotion as part of their slow but smooth experiment. From other articles
that I have gone through the role of effective management can be summed up as the
orientation towards results and ensure that the employees are motivated to reach their
aim. I have learnt that a successful manager requires being assertive for getting the work
done. The articles have also let me feel that without being a good leader, one cannot be a
good manager.
2. From the article I felt that Samsung should make strong efforts to make their
organizational culture more open to change by inviting outsiders and transferring the
insiders abroad. I think the company should introduce a formal process for adapting
implementing and recognizing the most suitable practices of the West. This modification
will also lead to seniority- based compensation and promotion system. Samsung will be
able to contest outside its local markets which will enable them to move ahead of their
well- integrated system to involve with the non- Koreans in the similar context. This has
made me understand that these practices will be inconsistent with the status quo.
3. If I am asked by the management of Samsung on the most significant contemporary
organizational context I would say that it is learning organization. I think that with the
concept of constant learning the organization is able to transform their structure
accordingly. The process of learning between the management and employees leads to a
balanced interaction which helps in effective decision making as well as problem solving.
I will also mention that with the process of learning the organization can remain
competitive in the business environment.
