1ACCREDITATION IN SAUDI ARABIA
Response to Q1
In Saudi Arabia, the first hospital to get accreditation was by the Central Board for
accreditation of healthcare institutions (CBAHI). The accreditation was done to improve the
overall quality of care of the health system (Almasabi & Thomas, 2017). Multiple other
international accreditation systems have bought a positive impact on the health system of
Saudi Arabia. Joint Commission International (JCI) has brought a major impact on the health
system as it has improved patient care, and there was the adoption of hand hygiene practice.
Accreditation has also improved the chronic disease management along with promoting
healthy behaviour among the community (Algahtani et al., 2017). The major negative impact
can be the cost of implementation of accreditation. The cost would involve training, hiring
skilled staff, implementation process and thus, could impact on the cost.
The major challenge is the involvement of the major stakeholder is deficient.
Accreditation involves planning for implementation and feedback for improvement in every
level of the health system. Thus, stakeholders of every level health system could be patient or
community leaders, and their involvement in planning and improvement is challenging.
Response to Q2
The major roadblock that is affecting the implementation of quality management is
lack of commitment and taking responsibilities by the senior managers or leaders. Any
changes can be implemented if the leaders can engage with the workers or staff of a particular
organisation. The individual within the system would be reluctant about any changes.
Therefore, the manager or leader must engage with the system and explains the importance or
outcome of the implementation of quality. Health system is the very chaotic environment,
staffs are already working in stress, and the limited time with limited coordination would be
the major roadblock for implementation of quality. Lack of funding or lack of human

resources is acting as a roadblock (Al-wassia et al., 2015). For the implementation of any
change in quality management, effective training is necessary, and training can cost both
money as well as manpower.
