AI Summary
This report delves into the complexities of database migration, using the Sydney Dentist Centre (SDC) as a case study. It explores the challenges of migrating from a Microsoft Access database to Microsoft SQL Server, emphasizing the use of Attunity as a mitigation tool. The report outlines the features of Attunity, including its ability to handle both homogeneous and heterogeneous data migration, automated transfer generation, and secure data transfer processes. It details the migration steps, including table selection, Attunity execution, and data verification. Furthermore, the report highlights potential challenges like storage limitations and unmatched data types and provides solutions. The importance of thorough testing, including SQL queries and report analysis, is stressed to ensure data integrity. The conclusion reinforces the significance of a well-executed migration process to ensure no data loss and the adoption of advanced technological support. The report is a part of the SBM4201 System Analysis and Design course portfolio assessment.

2DATABASE MIGRATION
Introduction:
The Sydney Dentist Centre (SDC) is needs some of the major technological for the
process of the migration of the entire database systems. The Microsoft access database is
although one of the most advanced database system that have helped in the process of the
storing database. Although the Microsoft access performs some of the major tasks bu7t lack
in some. Also in terms of the security, the Microsoft access lacks in some of the major
options. Migrating to some other databases can help the organisation to assure that all the
modern and advanced advantages are ensured.
This paper explains about a mitigation tool Attunity that can help in the process of the
migrating from Microsoft Access to some other database. This includes the plan through
which the databases can be easily transformed.
Mitigation tool Attunity:
The database migration tool Attunity helps organisations to transfer data from one
database to another database. This tool makes it easier for the management to easily transfer
huge sum of data without any data leak or any other problem. Attunity supports both the
homogenous and the heterogeneous data migration processes for the process of database
migration (Zaharia, 2017). The Attunity is one of the leading software that helps with the
process of the database migration. This software is used worldwide for the process of the
database migrations (Ellison, Calinescu & Paige, 2018). The main features that the tool
provides is are automated transfers generation tickets or reports for every transaction that is
made. The transfer is also one of the most secured process that is maintained. The security of
the data is one of the key feature of the software.
The process of the database migration is initiated with installing of the tool in the host
and target machines. After the installation process is completed the database transferring

process can be done. The Attunity automatically converts the source database schema into the
target database schema (Visalakshi et al., 2017. This process also ensures that no data is lost
in the process of migration. The Attunity also ensures that if there is any network loss while
the transferring of the data is still on, it can be resumed from the same point once network
connection is regained.
Challenges:
Although the process of the database might seem one of the simplest thing that can be
done in order to move data from one place to other, there can be some of the major problems
in the database migration process.
One of the major problem that can be faced is the storage. As the orgasaition is using
the Microsoft access in order to store data. Moving to the new database software that is
Microsoft SQL server. In this case the storage might not be a serious issue, still importance
must be given while the transfer is still on.
One of the other major problem that can faced while the process of the database
migration is the unmatched data types (El Alami, Bahaj & Cherti, 2016). This is one of the
major thing that has to be taken cared as all the entities in both the databases are of similar
datasets (Sinha, 2017). If the datasets are not matched then it can cause some of the serious
problems while the transferring of the databases. Other than this some of the other major
things that is needed to ensure while the process of the transferring is that the network that is
connected is a secured one.
Steps for Migration:
These steps are needed to be followed for the process of the migrating the databases from the
Microsoft access to Microsoft SQL server.

4DATABASE MIGRATION
Step1: Thee administrator must select the tables that are needed to be moved from
one database to the other.
Step2: The Attunity is needed to be run and information are to be checked for the
process of the migration.
Proper username and password is to be ensured in the new database in order to copy
all the data in a secured manner.
Step3: Information is to be checked whether there it is successfully copied or not.
Testing the new database:
The process of the database migration is one of the toughest task that is to be
accomplished. Test the process is harder that the process of migration. The test ensures that
whether all the data are securely copied or not. In order to successfully test the migration
process, once the data is copied (Hamouda & Zainol, 2017). Quarries must be run in order to
check all if all the data are successfully copied or not. Further in some cases if the databases
are not long enough manual checking can be done in order to make sure that the data are
successfully copied. If the databases are long then the only options are to check the databases
using the SQL queries. Further after every migration is ensured then the Attunity tools
generated as report of the same. The report contains all the necessary information’s that are to
be ensured while the process while the transformation. The report can be thoroughly checked
in order to ensure that all the data are copied or not. The report contains all information that
might be useful for the process of checking.
If any test is not successful the entire process must be done again in order to ensure
that there is no technical fault. If there is any problem with the network of the servers then the
process must be immediately stopped and the entire process must be restarted in order to

ensure that the process is completed without any error. Further proper backups must be made
in order to ensure that no data is lost while the process of the migration.
Conclusion:
Thus concluding the topic it must be said that the process of the migration of the
database is one of the toughest thing that is to be ensured by the organisation. All the steps
must be done in a proper manner so that there is no loss in the data while the process of the
migration is occurring. The Microsoft server is one of the most advanced database server that
can be used by the organisation is order to ensure proper technological support.
