Introduction:
The report aims at providing an insight into the organizational theory and behavior of
Singapore Bus Service (SBS) transit in context of size, business methods and business facts and
the concept of green buses for ensuring environmental sustainability (sbstransit.com.sg 2019).
SBS Transit played the role of being public transport operator in state of Singapore and operated
rail, bus and the taxi services. It is primarily owned by the ComfortDelGro and has been also
known as the Singapore Bus Service. The company however acted as the major bus operator of
Singapore.
SBS was introduced in the year July 1, 1973 when the private companies of buses like the
Amalgamated Bus Company, Associated Bus Services and the United Bus agreed in merging the
operations by undertaking 53 percent, 19 percent and 28 percent shareholding in new
company(sbstransit.com.sg 2019). In the year 2001, the company has been rebranded as the SBS
transit by the Singapore Bus Service for reflecting the becoming of multi modal operator of
transport through paving the way towards opening of North East MRT line and Sengkang LRT
line. Almost the majority of the routes across Singapore is operated by the SBS Transit except
the North West and Northern areas where the bus service is run by the SMRT buses
(sbstransit.com.sg 2019). The introduction of Bus Contracting Model (BCM), have led to some
of the SBS Transit services to be taken over by the Go Ahead Singapore and Tower Transit
Singapore (sbstransit.com.sg. 2019).
As far as the concept of green buses is concerned, Singapore introduced green public
buses with installed plants on its roof (Min Zhang 2019). This was done for undertaking an
observation in lowering the inside temperature of the bus that would ultimately lead to saving of

fuel. These buses were not only used for shuttle service but also made to ply in the SBS transit
route. This is how the company is making a contribution towards environmental sustainability.
